Very small place… that made it even better! Terrific jalopeno sausage in a wrap! $ 7 for the sausage wrap, and chips. Well worth the trip.

Based on the reviews, here, we had to try this place out. It’s tiny! One table and a short line of chairs at a «bar» around the outside. And it’s busy. When we visited(Friday afternoon), the easy to identify from the descriptions here owner was at the grill, and a very friendly, jovial man was at the counter taking orders. The menu is a surprise. It’s huge! We chatted a bit and finally settled on a Chicago Italian with marinara and cheese. The man at the counter said that was his favorite(I bet he tells that to all the customers), and there was a quick flurry of activity to identify if indeed they had marinara, as they often run out. They did. Whew. Ok let’s cut to the chase: damn that was good. The sausage had great flavor, and perfect texture, moisture and a light spicing. And our experience was that the Cranky Weiner Man may give you some shit, but it’s more like a bit of attitude with a wink on the side. Play along with him and the smile you get is genuine. We went home with a pack of the mustard and garlic sausages, and pinwheels(sausage and bacon swirls). Can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow.

Outstanding food and is the king of sausage in the area. Everything is great. To their sandwiches, a wide array of sausages, breakfast burritos, and the best prime rib I’ve ever tasted. It’s a small place, with big favor. Have to check this place out. Mike, the owner is awesome!

This is my favorite breakfast place. The owner at times can be «cranky» at an acceptable level and once you eat here you will be back over and over and over again it is that good and at a great price point… I love the biscuits and the sausage and the bacon so that’s what I get when I come in… Also get breakfast burritos sometimes. He has jerky and pepperoni in the back if you ask for it and I usually cannot leave without a pound of pepperoni…

I stand by my previous reviews is this place is still one of the best places to get sausage anywhere. He also has different types of bacon and pork chops. He has a little beer available to eat while you’re there. It’s a little place that you should go to.

My go to for sausage or his version of a burrito for breakfast. Cozy could be the term for 1 table and seating for 10. Most of his food is to-go. However, take a few packages of various sausages for your own breakfast, or for the grill. Have enjoyed them all so far.

A good breakfast at a good price. Popular with the younger generation. Their food togo is very popular.

The Chicago sausages are delicious. I don’t need a bun or any condiments. The flavor of the sausages stand on their own.

You enter. A white-mustachioed man greets you silently from behind a meat freezer full-to-the-brim with a whole manner of sausage 4-packs. Classical music is playing. You ask for a lunch menu – confused by the lack of signage and the thought that you may have stumbled into just-a-butchers-shop. He indicates to the right. You peruse the menu and select a sausage sandwich; still no words have passed between you and the white-whiskered man. «You decide yet?» He asks gruffly. You tell him your order and he immediately to the grill begins the preparation. The cast-iron sizzles as heat is applied to both onions and meat. A toasted bun is proffered and it is suggested that you apply your desired accoutrements before the final step. A minute later you receive a sausage sandwich; nicely halved and neatly nestled alongside a handful of kettle chips. The sandwich is delicious; you take delight in the 70s plush red leather seats upon which you are seated for this meal. Afterwards, you thank the man and then walk outside to your car, feeling like a million bucks.

Wow! The smallest, coolest restaurant I have ever eaten at. 10 chairs and only one table. A case full of homemade sausages and bacon fills the small space. The smell is incredible. The breakfast omelets and potatoes were delicious. The coffee was really good also. The two-man team really did a great job of making us feel right at home. Even played some cards while we waited for our food. This place is obviously very popular with the number of people that came in whole we sat there. I can see why.

Great quality meats. Stop on one morning and grab a breakfast burrito and some sausages for the weekend. You will be impressed

Amazing sausage and yummy food. Not a lot of room to sit, but take it to go, totally worth it! You can also buy meat for grilling later!

Ron Swanson would love this place. That’s all that needs to be said really. It’s small, cash-only, and the owner has a reputation for being a grumpy German(or a sour Kraut — wakka wakka — no but seriously this joke is framed on the wall). All the meat and sausages are cut and made in back, and they’re damn good. There’s a little shelf with some random games and a small library of books such as «How to Fix Anything» and a cookbook devoted entirely to eggs and cheese. And the menu is pretty much devoted to meats and breakfast foods. If anything on the menu is vegan or gluten-free, I would bet it’s only so by accident.

I dropped in for a breakfast burrito and it was awesome. The shop is pretty small. I got me order to go and it was fine. Seating is limited. The food good.

The owner Michael is witty and has a sense of humor. Sorry if that offends you, but it shouldn’t. He’s funny and his food is amazing. We shared the steak & eggs and pork chop & eggs. Most tender steak I’ve ever had at a breakfast restaurant and smoked pork chop is the single best pork chop I’ve had in my life. It’s a fun, quirky little place with lots of personality and a fun small town vibe. My cousins been trying to get me there forever and I finally made it after 3 years visiting from Denver. Totally worth it and I’ll be back 100% next time I visit

This is a place for foodies and chowhounds. Many kinds of sausage sandwiches to try. This is a combination sandwich shack and meat counter. One table for seating plus counter space along two walls. Have tried two of the sausage sandwiches, both very good, lean, flavorful. Purchased two different kinds of sausage to take home to cook plus their summer sausage. Their summer sausage is very good. Forget the grocery store brands of summer sausage. Go to Pepper Tree to get summer sausage for holiday parties. Spoke with a couple of locals while we ate. There is a contingent of regulars. Definitely give this place a try even if only passing by Albany during lunch time. This is not a fast food place because it will take a short amount of time to prepare your sausage sandwich properly. Seating is limited. For foodies and chowhounds this is an adventure.

Some days, the only way I can make myself go out for a long run is by dreaming of the PepperTree breakfast burrito that I’ll have afterwards. At $ 3.50 a pop, they may be the best deal in town.

I honestly don’t understand the love this place gets. To start out, this place does not accept debit or credit cards. Yep… heaven forbid they accept a form of payment that has been accepted by virtually every other merchant for decades. I’m sure it’s not because they cheat on their taxes, is it? As other reviewers have mentioned, the owner(and only worker?) of this establishment prides himself on being a grumpy German. There’s even a sign on the wall proclaiming this«achievement». I guess a lot of people think this is charming and/or entertaining… kind like that character(the soup Nazi) from the old Seinfeld TV show. Well, I’ve lived in NY most of my life, and I can tell you truthfully that such an attitude would not be welcomed that city. The people there simply don’t put up with unnecessary BS. If this owner were in NY he would have lost all his customers(and business) many years ago. Nonetheless, if you do dare to venture into this restaurant, order carefully. If you don’t ask for the exact product you’ll be met with a huffy attitude and disdain by the owner. The same is true when your order is ready. You’ll be handed your sausage, without anything else, on a plain bun. You are then expected to know that you must cross the room and quickly add some of your desired toppings from a small bar… and be quick or you’ll again hear his wrath. You then return the sausage to the owner and he’ll list off the remaining choices of toppings that he will personally put on. At this point DONOT say«Everything please.» This will totally piss off the owner. Apparently you can have all the toppings, but you must say them all individually. If you make it to this part of your Gestapo culinary adventure you may thankfully, after paying in cash(and by the grace of God), leave. I must admit, the sausages are quite good, and for that reason I’ll give the place 2 stars. But the owner is a first class ass-hat, thus putting the Pepper Tree on my «Never again» list.

Ever since I’ve left Chicago I have been looking for good Chicago Italian sausage. I have finally found it here in Albany Oregon. The sandwich I had was just as good as those that i have in the south and west side of the city of Chicago… I look forward to going back and having another one.
