The Pub is a cute little house converted into a cozy little public house. There are some tables outside where people smoke, and some tables/chairs and comfortable arm chairs inside. The«bar» is not very big and it’s just for serving — not a place you sit at and hang out(which I love — wish more bars had this setup!). There is beer, wine and non alcoholic beverages — no food(bring your takeout). There’s also a tobacco counter with cigars and pipe tobacco. Even though I’m a non smoker and can’t stand walking through smoke… I have to say: I’m a big fan of this place. Just sit away from the porch when indoors and you won’t smell the smoke. It’s very laid back, people are friendly without being intrusive, it’s casual and relaxed. Dog friendly as well. Prices are pretty reasonable and it’s pretty peaceful(you won’t be blasted out with someone’s bad taste in music).

JChan, my friend, you really do know what I enjoy! Fresh from my road trip AND a great meal across the way, JC brings me over here. An old home converted into a friendly neighborhood establishment. Smoking, pets, drinks, all allowed on the pretty outside patio tables. I love it already! The other groups kicking it on the patio sounded really fun, and I’m sure had JC and I not been catching up on a million things we would have enjoyed joining in the convos. But the beer was flowing(thanks again JC!), and we happily drank and smoked and reveled all the way til closing time :) CASHONLY. Pretty server :) Gorgeous little bathrooms! Ugh, I love it here so much :)

Beer. Tobacco. Fireplace. And there’s always someone on a mac book. It’s like a coffee shop, but better. It can attract some interesting and unique people, but that just adds to the charm. Bring cash and make sure you don’t mind the smell of tobacco or people who smell like it.

Comfortable. I’m from out of town, but in the Berkeley area frequently. I can drop by at the end of the day and enjoy a nice bowl or two in the pipe, or a nice cigar. Conversations all around, and I can join in, or sit and listen. There’s always the one or two«Berkeley-types» who think they know more than anybody else, and it’s quite entertaining. But in the end, the mix of all types and all backgrounds is what makes the world go around, yes? Staff is always friendly, and the prices for a pint or a glass of wine are just fine. Wonderful place.

Pub feels like a more eclectic version of my grandmother’s old cottage but with a little more tobacco and booze. If you don’t mind some background chatter(alternatively, if you welcome it, this is a great place for eavesdropping) then Pub is a wonderful place to read or write or perform other offline tasks. If you want to impress your friends with this unusual setting for a pint, or bond with an old local man over how to roll a cigar, this is the place to go. Note: I haven’t done the latter but I intend to. I think that if I started going here regularly, I might find reasons to get irritated with this place as it appears some Unilocalers have; but even the best of friends can become aggravating if you hang out with them for too long. Don’t forget to bring cash and snacks.

If I could genuinely put into words how I feel about this place it would be «INTROVERTSUNITE!» I’m so glad I stumbled upon this place because there’s no other place like this that I’ve been to. It’s nothing like a traditional dive bar, in fact I would actually say it has a conservative type of atmosphere. The place is clean, sofas and tables are available to relax in, a nice fireplace, and a great selection of tobacco. Think of that bar on campus where you could drink a beer, study, but be able to walk outside and have a smoke. Yes. There we go. There were a ton of people here studying, reading, or just relaxing. No one was getting too crazy, there’s no room for bar flies(in fact, there was no bar to be seen), and the setting was made for people to just hang out. The selection of beers were limited but tasteful. They have about nine beers on draft and I believe a few bottled. I found myself with a pint of Sierra Nevada and a pack of cigarettes and MY those cigarettes were EXPENSIVE(County taxes could possibly make me quit all together) BUT! MATCHESFOREVERYONE! They have a small selection of cigars but a good selection. My husband purchased a cigar and my oh my did it smell so good. If you’re looking to roll your own, they also have a little cigar bar with different flavors that you can pack on your own(fantastic idea). I don’t know how this place gets around city ordinance with people being able to smoke outside and so close to the streets but I loved it. There were benches and plenty of chairs to sit at and enjoy the day. Just to have a pint, a smoke, and a great conversation while people watching without ridicule was awesome. The other patrons here were friendly, I was able to strike a conversation up with a few fellas and talked about how this place came to be. Great story! One thing that I did notice which gave this place great character along with the English Pub Vibe was their canes that they sell. I thought it was ingenious and loved that idea. The service was great but make sure to bring cash as this place is cash only!

Great little place! They have a short draft list(probably 6 – 8 taps) and a tobacco shop inside. There are a bunch of tables and board games, and on the gloomy day we stopped in, a roaring fire in the fireplace. There’s no food here, but they allow you to bring in outside food as long as you clean up after yourself. I wish we had something like this where I live because I’d be in here all of the time!

Pub is the best. It is affordable, charming, and entirely pleasant. You can roll your own, and enjoy a pint while playing board games or chatting with your buddies/neighborhood folks. This charming little watering hole is one of my favorites.

This is the best pub in all of California! The staff is friendly and helpful, and you can’t beat the cozy atmosphere. Definitely a place worth checking out.

I hope you like smokers, because this place is filled with them. And they’re filthy habit. I apologize for my previously good review. I’m pretty sure this is where Darth Vader comes to drink. They serve 20 ounce drinks, what am I an alcoholic? If I want to hear Cal professors talk, I’ll go to Cal. Here’s an idea: a Trivial Pursuit game from after 1983. Do you like dogs? I hope so, because this place is filled with those damn flea-ridden mongrels. Dick Cheney is a regular here. Why would I go to a bar where have to bus my own glass? Bring cash, because when the bartenders turn tricks, they will only take green. Recommend for those at the end of their rope and would like to hang themselves.

Super rude staff, cliquey workers and clientele. We used to go quite a bit, but won’t return, awful experience and such rude behavior from the bartender last time there. If I want to be abused while drinking beer, I’ll just go home and visit my folks. But I’d rather not pay for the abuse.

This place is a real Berkeley gem and I like to take out-of-towners here for that very reason. Excellent place to find conversation, friends, and a nice chill night. You do have to be ok with the smell of tobacco. No way around that one.

I’ve been using this pub as my extended huge living room and deck. There are games and you’re allowed to bring outside food as long as you clean up after yourself. They open late and serve both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. The general coziness of the place makes it a great place to meet or be by yourself.

I LOVETHISPLACE, ALTHOUGH I DON’T GETOVERTHEREVERYOFTEN. A funky, mellow pub, converted from a house! Great beer & ale selection, pipe tobacco sold on premises, cool outdoor beer gardens in front & back, a smoking room in the middle of the house, a fireplace, WHATMORECOULDYOUASK? This is a hidden gem in the middle of Albany, and I urge anyone who is into pubs or beer to check it out.

You can read all the descriptions of this place from the other reviews. This place is legit! You can drink, you can buy your own food and bring it in and play games, talk, read, or just sit by the fireplace. They have an outside patio which is really cute. Good assortment of beers and wines and tabacco items, although I’m not really an expert… at ALL on these things. REMEMBER, CASHONLY! I do wish they had like an option for card since I never have cash on me, but this place is legit. Here, you’ll find an assortment of people of different ages. Also, no wifi which is… AWESOME. Also, had a few beers here which were all good, and their wines– when I got my malbec was pretty decent!

Pub is like a college coffee shop, but with beer and tobacco. The interior’s set in an old house. I was actually a bit unclear about what parts of the house were accessible to me. You could easily go an entire stay without realizing that there’s a back door which leads to an outdoor patio area. It’s definitely quirky, but it seemed like most of the patrons were repeat customers and knew how to get around. The beer selection is decent. They have a rotating beer list, which is always welcome. The woman at the counter was super-helpful in walking through a couple beers that I was unfamiliar with. I didn’t know what to make of the tobacco stand, but a lot of folks were buying their own tobacco to roll. Fun! The vibe at this place is definitely chill. I wouldn’t come here looking for a rollicking good time, or if I were looking to chat other folks up. I’d come for a date or to study /do work. In any event, I’d definitely come back if I was in the right mood.
