Ritmo’s Joe Barber Salon

My head looks better after Joe cuts the hair off of it. He doesn’t chat unnecessarily. It’s a little more than I’d like to spend, but he takes his time to do a good job and it’s nearby. Go get your hair cut by these barbers and you’ll probably be happy.

Sometimes, you just don’t want to deal with downtown Albany. Between the battle for parking and dodging exercising State workers, there is a certain type of stress that comes with venturing into that neck of the woods.
Getting my haircut at Ritmo’s was a fine experience. I called ahead of time to make an appointment, something that was recommended by the owner. This is not a fast paced shop, with multiple barbers. To my best knowledge, there are only two barbers in the shop — Joe, the owner, and then a second person.
The haircut and beard trim that I received were both quality. It’s true that you won’t find homemade products or Ritmo’s t-​shirts for sale on the walls, but you will encounter a friendly pair of barbers who, even after 30+ years of operation, still appear entirely passionate about their craft. Joe, who has been a resident of Albany for decades, told stories of the «old,» New Scotland neighborhood and I was totally enthralled. I saved about $ 10 over what I pay at other shops in the area, so I was also happy about that too.
Ultimately, I would return to Ritmo’s. The convenient location, fair prices, and friendly atmosphere make the shop accessible and efficient.

I am so torn on this one, and really, since I have no hair, I hardly have any business reviewing a barber shop.
My hair cut was solid. Easily a 4* job. My hair is easy to cut. It takes clippers and a steady hand to get an even ¹⁄₈ inch all around. But the barber did take his time, and was very meticulous. He even did the straight razor finish.
The barber was able to take me right away, even though I walked in from the street, without calling ahead. Others who came in later, were turned away.
But I did feel stung paying $ 18 for my simple cut. Still, it is a good shop, and if you have more hair, it may be a better value.
