Parking was not a problem and neither was located the brightened up sign labeled«ROCKS». Walking in to a welcoming environment I took a seat by the bar. Greeted by a friendly bartender who offered me some suggestions made my drink with not a long wait. Bathrooms were properly cleaned and advertised upcoming events to check out. Music was at a decent volume that wasn’t overwhelming and still could carry a conversation to the person next to you.

Went to see the Dragqueen show with my daughter. Happy hour is from 2−9pm, which is awesome:) The ladies were happy to take pics with us and everyone there was so friendly. Food was good… dinner and a show for $ 20, not bad. Memories to last a lifetime. Priceless.

I was here twice in one day: Once for Rocks Adopts pet adoption clinic with my foster dog(which earns major points in my book). Twice for a drag show to benefit the rescue organization that I’m fostering with. What an awesome group of hosts for the pet adoption clinic and the drag show. I believe they helped our rescue raise over $ 1,400! I love bars that give back to the community. The Ladies were lovely and entertaining. Ok, I’m still giggling at a few of the acts 2 days later.(Frieda, you were fabulous) I’m not sure if a bar that mainly caters to gay men is some place I would go on a regular basis(just because I’m a single gal looking to date guys, and trying to explain why I’m single to my parents is complicated enough) but the bartenders were quick and very sweet and generally it was a fun environment that all respectful people seemed welcome at. If a friend asked me to go to another drag show there I would certainly be up for it.

Ugh, why can’t this city do anything cool in terms of the gay scene? This bar was nice, but it seemed more like a cheap shiny import than a legitimate establishment. And what about the retail crowd? Everyone I met was a cashier or some twentysomething with no goals in life trying to find any reason to go out and save himself from the misery of the day. Perhaps this is the type of guy this bar attracts? And I knew something was bad when the place started emptying at about 12:30 — 1:00am. It was literally mass exodus the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the Israelites in Egypt. And how tacky is it that the owner comments here and gives 5 stars?

I was in Albany recently and decided to go out to see what the gay scene was like, and I have to say, I am totally shocked. I walk into this place around 5p, there were about 10 to 15 people — who ALL said hello to me. I sat at the end of the bar and started chatting with a few guys — little did I know one was the owner, the others were employees. Peter, Alvin & David made me feel right at home… they were funny, witty and just all around nice guys. I ended up going back the next night, walked in and everyone was like«KEVIN».nice! It was underwear boy night and the place was packed… and FUN! I had so much fun at this place, that I would fly back just to go there again.

I went for a hotboi auction last weekend and it is what you expect. Lots of naked bodies, PDA(but where aren’t you going to get that at a gay bar??), sensual dancing and drunkness. I’d say it’s not as chill as Waterworks but this isn’t that kind of place and it wasn’t that kind of event anyway. It was definitely a solid time, and I’d definitely come back, although most likely, I’ll hop back and forth between here and Waterworks again.

Gave one star for the size/mediocre music, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend. First experience, Last year i came on a therapy thursday, they allowed obviously drunk older men into the club who I watched take advantage of much younger women(they were clearly under 21 via braceletes. etc.) without doing anything about it. At one point I was sandwiched by much older men and despite my yelling at the top of my lungs and squirming trying to get away while they groped me every which way(underneath my clothes), nothing was done about it until my friend used physical force and dragged me out. Second experience, I was uneasy about attending so I decided to be the designated driver for my friends recently(9÷9÷11) and was immediately removed for being«too drunk» before even stepping into the building. I was leaning against the door on the line waiting to get in when the bouncer immediately pointed to me and demanded that I leave because I had been«pre-drinking and leaning against the wall». I retracted my arms of course and told him I had not been drinking, he viscously accused me of being drunk regardless and would not let up. Eventually out of embarrassment and anger I left with 6 people equally as upset as I was. Nice going Rocks. Two awful experiences. None of us will attend again.

Rocks is located across the street from Water Works, in a location that used to be called, at different times, Players, Club 77, and Billy Jacks. Peter and Lance, the new owners, did a *major* rehab of the place(gutted it and started from scratch), and they’ve come up with a fun, neighborhood bar that caters to men of all ages. Great bartenders, fun party nights, and a large deck out back — what more could you want? UPDATE: They have now purchased and renovated the building next door into«Club Rocks», with a beautiful new bar, huge dance floor, stage, and game room with pool tables and darts. The club is usually only open on weekends, but it’s definitely a welcome addition on the party nights when the bar gets crowded!
