The first time I came here it was good, so I came back with my husband. The menu is unorganized and so unclear. I carefully picked my sushi roll with no avocado, because I am allergic. After ordering, the sushi came out. I noticed there was avocado in it so I told the lady. She wasn’t helpfull at all and tried to argue with me that the sushi roll always have avocado in it. She brought the menu and pointed at the«California roll, fried with blabla». So I was like, there’s no avocado listed. She was like«no, in California roll there is avocado». I was so strucked by her demanding tone, her trying to be right instead of being costumer friendly. She didn’t even want to make me a new roll, so I ended up picking it out of the sushi myself. Didn’t enjoy my food at all, after her trying to argue. So unfriendly… She just lost some great customers.

First off, I will say that I am not a sushi eater. However, my boyfriend is. I took him here for dinner one evening and after looking over the menu, he ordered the«Verizon Roll» which has multiple types of tuna in it, avocado, and something else(sadly, I can’t remember). I stuck with the hibachi chicken. My entrée came with a soup and salad starter. I really enjoyed the little salad. When our food arrived, everything looked great. My chicken was delicious, it came with a ginger-based dipping sauce and a yellow, creamy sauce. Also, there is fried rice, lo mein, and stir fried vegetables that come with it. I learned that if you do not want one of the three sides, you can exchange one of them for a second portion of another side. My boyfriend FLIPPED over his sushi. He is from Atlanta, so he has had good quality sushi, yet upon a few bites of Shogun’s sushi, he exclaimed that this was the best sushi that he has ever had. He enjoyed his roll so much that he ordered a second one to go. A month after our Shogun experience, we were eating seafood/sushi in a nice restaurant in Alpharetta, GA. Once the meal was finished, we were leaving and my boyfriend said, «You know what, that was good, but the sushi from Shogun in Albany is still my favorite.» So, if you are looking for sushi in Albany, this is your place. If you are with someone who enjoys sushi, but you don’t, this is your place, too! The wait staff is also very kind.

Hit and miss. We had one of the shrimp rolls and I am so sorry I cannot remember the name because it was so so good and I will have it again. I ordered the steak and rice and I’m not sure what kind of steak they use but it was not good at all. It was so bad I have to say it again; it was not good at all. The shrimp roll deserves a five but the shrimp and rice deserves a –1

The place seems to be going downhill in some respects. This the second time I have been here recently and the service was not great. Some people walked in after us and had food on their table before they even bothered to take our order. The boss seems to coordinate the floor poorly and hawked over our table suspiciously. I felt very uncomfortable and nearly laid a few dollars on the table for our drinks and walked out. The only saving grace of the service is the food. The food was still very good. I did not feel like a valued patron at all. I do not think I will be returning any time soon. They may need a change in ownership.

I like another place for sushi better but the Japanese taco is fantastic. Tastes just like a taco.

I was pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent. I had the philly roll and two tuna rolls. Fresh fish. I would go back in a minute. Well done shogun

Shogun is a great find! There is another Japanese restaurant that tastes good, but the prices are not as good and it is not as clean. We have tried other Japanese restaurants in the area and we continue to return time and time again to Shogun. The food is delicious, well prepared, fresh and priced reasonably. The atmosphere is relaxing and quaint. The restaurant is MUCH cleaner and more updated than the other two sushi places nearby. The service is generally very good and they are quite attentive. There is one waitress in our experience that moves slower than the rest. She’s a native South Georgian though and often that’s just who they are, still a super nice gal! She could step it up a bit. Overall, we would definitely recommend Shogun. I love that you can have teppan/hibachi and sushi without the interruption of the show. This allows for a more private dining experience. Our kids love their big fish tank and they’re always willing to accommodate the kids requests. If you don’t like sauce on anything just say NO sauce, done. We often get no sauce on the spicy tuna, which is how we are used to it as well. The jalapeño roll is fried, spicy and a bit of sauce and it is awesome. They do tend to sauce things up and fry it down here because that’s the way of the region. Ask questions, make polite requests and be assured that they will work very hard to make you happy. Nice people, delicious food!

Wow! Just WOW! The service is SO bad! This is coming from a person who has never, I repeat, NEVER sent a dish back to the kitchen at a restaurant. Shogun is basically the only place in Albany to get sushi and this is the only reason we’ve been there a few times. After tonight, we will not be back. My husband ordered a pot of hot tea and we are 99.9% positive that they brought us hot water with no tea added. The service has been horrendous all 3 times we’ve been but tonight they refused to make a veggie roll for me because they said the chef was too busy. I’m not sure how that takes any longer than any other roll. I ordered another roll sans the sauce and the waitress told us that the chef was probably going to get mad about it. About 30 – 45 minutes later, she came back and told us he had mistakenly put sauce on the roll and asked if I’d eat it anyway since it would take another 30 to 45 minutes for him to redo it. I said I’d just take it but when she brought it out, it was positively swimming in sauce. It was all over everything on the plate and there were 2 sauces not just the one the menu listed. I ate 1 piece and sent it back. They took my 2 rolls off the bill. This is not even the first time they’ve left the sauce on even though I wrote on the order sheet«no sauce.» Our waitress told us that the chef got mad at her when she pointed out where I’d written that on the sheet. I tipped her well anyway since it must be horrible to work in a restaurant like this. This is the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. I am really not a finicky or picky person but this was just so bad. Our friends who told us about the place warned us that the service was really bad but it is really the only halfway decent place in Albany for sushi. I suspect that is the only reason its still in business.

Great Japanese restaurant without the dog and pony show. Good for a single diner as well as small groups. Has a full sushi bar. My suggestion: Get extra veggies instead of the noodles.

If your in the mood for Japanese and find youself in Albany, GA then I guess Shogun is your stop. I decided to get sushi here but they also had other Japanese fair including Hibachi. The place was backed and I was forced to sit at the Sushi bar where I received decent, but not spectacular, service. I got a chef’s choice sushi combo that came with a spicy tuna roll and several pieces of nigiri. A green salad and mushroom soup was also included. The sushi was mediocre, especially the spicy tuna. Instead of actually spicing the tuna they added some type of hot mayonaise to the top of it. Yuck. The nigiri was okay and ranged from tuna, to salmon, to imitation crab stick. If I lived in Albany I would come back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.
