Let me be clear. This is a review of my experience with the Hy-Vee Chinese Express and NOT the store in general. I have been shopping at this particular Hy-Vee for years and have found it to be a solid source for many of my grocery needs. On with the show… I visited the Hy-Vee Chinese Express for lunch today. When we walked in the door I checked the time and saw that it was 12:40. I was hopeful that we had arrived during the lunch hour so as to guarantee hot, fresh buffet food. I opted for the Friday all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet for $ 6.00. When I checked out the food through the glass before I ordered I noticed that several of the items were almost empty and tired looking. I ordered beef with asparagus which should have been called dog food and wood. The beef was soggy and shapeless and the asparagus was so woody I couldn’t eat it. I also a chicken green bean dish that was mostly hard undercooked carrots. Lastly I had a garlic pork that was mostly onions. Nothing was hot. I am not going to let this happen again. FAIL! PS. I forgot that while we were eating in the dining area, two mice came out of a hole in the wall ran around a little bit and ran back into the hole.

This is a great Hy-Vee, sometimes when I head up to Minneapolis for a Vikings game I meet my parents at this Hy-Vee right off Interstates 90 and 35! It’s a perfect spot to meet, They have clean bathrooms, a coffee shop inside and a great healthy food section for snacks for the road! The staff is always really nice and it’s prices are way better then having to buy water, or soda at a gas stationfor the road! Way to go!
