Great Chile, friendly service, fair prices. They giggled at me when I sampled a“xxxtra hot” chili and it made my eyes water and gave me hiccups. I couldn’t blame them. I plan on going back and stocking up on as much chili as I can before the season is over.

What Albuquerque lacks in rooftop patios, urban public spaces and public transportation it makes up for it with great spots to acquire chile. Not quite. I exagerate, but these establishments do help make Albuquerque more awesome. Chile Konnection is one such place. Because it is here where you can choose from an assortment of green and red chile options as well as weird little statues and other kitsch items that are probably never sold but the real reason for coming here is to get your green chile fix. Buy a whole sack of Socorro extra hot or a basket of some Lemitar«super lumbre» which is not edible even in a stew because it is insanely hot even if you cut it with the Bueno mild(not sold here but used to explain how hot this stuff is). Or you can buy some Hatch medium, etc. All of these are roasted on the spot by whom I assume is Pancho since the name is on the sign and he is here all the time. A hard working couple run this spot; it is open every day of the week. Since I work for the man I appreciate the opportunity to come on a Sunday to buy my chile supply for the whole year and support one of the finer aspects of New Mexican cuisine. Chile Konnection gives you a wide variety of chile options from different parts of the state and is the type of small, local, uniquely New Mexican business that is worth supporting. The lady at the counter even handed me a salt shaker and a ziplock bag of chile to sample before making my purchase decision.

Just sittin and sniffin’ while I wait for my turn to order chile. September in New Mexico is the greatest. Only a week left of this year’s crop says the chile man. :’(

I thought the hot this year was the best tasting on our tour de Burque. Pancho’s is always It wasn’t very hot but tasty as hell. The farm is located just outside of Socorro. Prices were average. There’s a little store attached, but I didn’t really see much there.

Cash only, wicked green and red chile. more on the hot side. This is the place to pick up your stuff when traveling abroad. Nice personable staff, better if you speak spanish but even if you don’t they take good care of you.
