Excellent German cuisine! The food is fresh and very authentic, and the service is impeccable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get really great food, great service and have a great experience.

I went there about a month ago just to check it out. The waiter was very nice and showed us some of the pastries and gave us a menu to read. We finally got to go there today for lunch. I am so sad to say that I am extremely disappointed. Got there at 12:45 and only two tables were occupied. We were seated by the same waiter that I had met before and he was very pleasant. I ordered the liverwurst plate and C got the Jaeger schnitzel. What arrived for me was literally 5 slices of liverwurst from a classic tube. It was served with two slices of very dense bread, and then an additional hoagie roll, along with a small pickle that tasted awful, wilted lettuce and a small container of brown mustard. I ended up eating hardly any of it. That alone should sent a message back to the cook. What arrived for Carlos was a plate of brown liquid, and immersed in this not-so-good-smelling stuff was a very flat, VERY tough piece of meat. I did not try it myself, but I could tell it was not easy to cut or chew. :-( I suppose there doesn’t have to be a «but wait, there’s more!» moment, but there is… When I got up to the front to pay, I attempted to hand the waiter,(by now at 1:12 this place is totally empty), he tells me that they only accept cash. NOTCOOL!!! There are NO signs posted anywhere in the establishment to indicate what they accept as a form of payment, nor is there any mention of this on their website. Needless to say, the tennis-ball size lump in my stomach is the end to this very disappointed German-American women. It has been 8 years since I ate any decent German food back in Cleveland, and I was hoping for something awesome. What I got was indigestion.

I dropped into Dagmar’s over the weekend. It was really good! Not much in the ABQ in terms of German options, but this place hit the spot. It’s in a little strip mall and has a deli look to it. I had the Jaegerschnitzel, which was very tasty. The other customers seemed to be ordering a lot of strudel and enjoying it immensely… I’ll have to get some next time!

It’s not fancy. The food is good. The southwestern spin throws some people, but the German food is authentic, plenty of choices if you want traditional. Some of the fusion is just awesome: try the SW Breakfast Schnitzel! Green chile is a NM way of life. TV is German, btw.

I bought slices of strudel to go over the holidays. All flavors were fantastic, but the cherry/cheese strudel was the most amazing strudel that I have ever tasted! It was moist and flaky, and the filling was hearty and delicious.

We have been frequenting Dagmar’s restaurants since 1999, when she was in Nob Hill(there have been five locations altogether). She catered our Christmas party one year, which was amazing. She lived in Germany for a spell, and obviously absorbed the food culture. The Roast Pork special on November 20, 2011 was typical of the marvelous combination of colors, flavors, and textures that always accompany our experience. Another diner in our party had the goulash as a soup, and couldn’t stop complimenting it. If you like German food, this is the real deal.

German food in the southwest? Yes, but not really super authentic. I liked everything I ate(I had the breakfast wurst plate), and the desserts here could merit five stars alone. What got me was the service. The owner hollered across the room at us when walking in, apologizing for her not getting up. She continued to talk to us while sitting on the other side of the restaurant. Friendly, but not really polite, either. When the waiter came with coffee refills, we complimented about how great the coffee tasted. He mentioned under his breath that he thought it «might have come from Costco.» *facepalm* This place could so much potential… instead it’s squandered by some odd business behavior.

The décor was so-so. There isn’t much you can do with a strip mall store front. The waiter seemed to be struggling to serve 4 tables. I had a wurst platter. The wurst didn’t have much flavor. Neither did the kraut. My wife had the Jagger schnitzel. She thought the mushroom sauce was too salty. Both of us came away unimpressed. This is a German«restaurant» that doesn’t serve beer! It’s“s not even on the dinner menu. I think I’ve seen everything now. I think they need some competition.

If anyone’s about substance over style, it’s Dagmar’s. Located in a nondescript little strip mall in the North East Heights, it’s not exactly where you go for ambience. The food though, isn’t bad. We went for breakfast and were hoping for something truly German – what a disappointment. There weren’t that many choices on the menu and several of them had been altered to be more«southwestern». Not what we were looking for. The owner was very friendly(Maybe a bit TOO friendly. We really would have liked more time to eat our food in peace) but kind of slovenly, as was everything about the place. That said, it was touching the attention she paid to some elderly people,(obviously regulars) dining alone. Our breakfast was so-so. The brown bread was delicious though, the best thing about our meal. I think our mistake was not coming in for dinner. We’ll have to go back and try it again.
