Beware! Read your contract carefully! Even though you think that you got a great internet rate«special» before you moved all your belongings to their storage facility, the contract that you sign at the facility allows Extra Space Storage to raise your storage rate whenever they feel like it as long as they give you a 30 day notice. I got my first rate increase at approx. 6 months even though I always paid my monthly fee on time. When I went online anonymously to check prices after the rate increase, the rate that the company website quoted me for the same size unit with outside access at the exact same facility was cheaper than what my new fee was! I called the facility and left a polite, detailed message about this and asked for a return phone call to discuss this. I waited several weeks, but no return phone call. When I went in person to the facility and told them about the difference in the rates, I was told that they would contact corporate to see if they could reduce my monthly storage fee and call me the next week. A couple of weeks later, I went back to the facility to see what was going on with the rate. The worker told me that she hadn’t heard back from corporate and then she said that I should have read my contract carefully because it said that they can raise the rates to whatever they want with the 30 day notice. I told the worker that I once used another storage company for 2 ½ years without any rate increases during the entire time that I was there. The worker then told me that Extra Space Storage had to do periodic rate increases to pay for the security cameras and onsite manager and that they raise the fees every 6 months while you are there. I told the worker that the other facility also had security cameras and an onsite manager that lived there and that the other company still never did any rate increases. She then rudely told me that I could move my stuff to the competitor’s facility and that she could rent storage units that were my size to other people for more than what I was paying… So much for customer service. After all this, I did an internet search on Extra Space Storage and complaints, I found out that other people across the nation voiced similar complaints. My fault, I should have researched this before…
