Lou Didit, aka Louis Pecastaing, does more than paint signs, murals and gym floors through his business Graphics By Lou Didit & Sons. He is a handyman of sorts, and, in my opinion, brings skill and an eye for detail that you probably won’t get from another handyman you might hire to help you with a more complicated home project. I live in an apartment which really could use a ladder to access a loft space it has. Sadly the place doesn’t come with one, probably because of the liability it could bring if one had an accident using the ladder or just being up on the loft. We’re living in this kind of world today that apartment owners just can’t risk it. Anyway, I hired Lou to make a ladder. We talked about what I wanted and what he needed to know in order to make it just right. And he did. Every detail we talked about, including the exact angle it would be propped at, Lou recorded and exacted in his finished project. He even added some safety measures, such as a hook on the top of the ladder so it attaches to the base of the loft floor, and grippy material reclaimed from an old mountain bike tire he attached to the bottom of the ladder to prevent it from slipping or scratching the beautiful hardwood floors. We talked about whether to go with a painted finish versus a natural wood stain which isn’t always easy to match closely to existing woodwork in the apartment. Originally, I was thinking a bright red ladder would be fun, but as we talked I realized that a natural finish would look pretty good with the rest of the place. And Lou did such a nice job with that, you really would believe the ladder came with the apartment. Check out the photos I’ve added, as they show how well the stain on the ladder matches the old maple doorway. Lou really hit it right on with all the details of the ladder. I’m really happy with what he’s done and highly recommend him if you need something built for your place.
