This place is delicious, and they give you so much food! I went with my parents, both of whom are German food fanatics, and they loved it too. We ordered three dishes and shared them all(but took the majority home). My mom got stuffed cabbage(it lacked a little seasoning, but nothing a salt shaker can’t remedy), I got the rouladen(not sure I spelled it right, but it’s basically a pickle wrapped in bacon, and my dad got some sort of meat roast that was roasted to perfection in some sort of cinnamon spiciness. My-it was delicious, and I recommend you try it! They also have a great German beer selection, so it might be a great place to go for happy hour after work.

Perfect spot on Friday night when everything else is packed. Prepare to wait a few moments longer for fresh and authentic German food. Service was fantastic and the waiter knew what he was doing. He even suggested the rest of my flight of beer after ordering just two. He was spot on. Relatively inexpensive for what you get. Try the dumplings appetizer and the schnitzel for sure.

Second visit was a major upgrade from opening night over a year ago. Disappointed I waited so long before coming back. I really enjoyed the food this time. I got the pot roast and it was succulent! I tried several flights of the beers and was really impressed with the variety.

We ordered a platter of a sausage(variety) with sauerkraut, potato salad, and a side of red cabbage salad. The sauerkraut was extremely salty(to the point that we couldn’t eat it), the red cabbage was too sweet, the spaetzle was soaked in cheese so we couldn’t taste the noodles. I was excited to get a European dessert, but the German chocolate cake, although tasty, was stale and hard. The black forest cake was much better/fresher, though. The service was satisfactory. The waiter brought me a sip of wine to taste before ordering the class… that was very nice!

Service was good, as was the beer. Food? Don’t waste your time or money! Everyone in our party of six was disappointed. My wife’s Polish – GULASZ with potato pancakes included one thick hash brown patty buried deep in tomato sauce, no doubt from a can. My Hungarian? STROGANOFF paled in comparison to an 88 cent Michaelina’s microwavable box. I’m Gernan and in my entire life have never had«German Potato Salad» like Heimat’s: thin sliced potatoes, steamed, with a sprinkling of parsley flakes and some watery concoction that was apparently supposed to be the equivalent of traditional sweet/sour sauce,

We had lunch here, I had currywurst, had to ask for brochen. It was cold halfway through the meal, so I took it home. It really tasted good, reminded me of Germany! My husband asked for an appetizer, the sausage on sauerkraut. The server asked if he was sure that was going to be enough, he assured her I never finish my food, he does. But she brought an extra large portion that was extra nice! We recommend a COUPON/ADVERTISING blitz. The atmosphere is nice; the food a little pricey. Super beer list! But if not for Unilocal,we never would have known it was here.

They modified a few of their recipes(stroganoff, rotkraut, and sauerkraut). Much better.

We ALL got the currywurst. There was a little too much curry for me, but overall a very good experience. They are very Celiac friendly, which was a huge bonus to us. We didn’t get any alcohol or sides, so this review is basically just about their pretty good currywurst and service. Would recommend, would get again. Better than Christees.

Turns out my previous review was warranted! Just ate here again after 12 months(I am from out of town) and the food is much improved. I had the Bavarian Pot Roast and it was delicious. The portion was huge. Also had the spätzle which is now very good as well. Even my friend’s schnitzel was properly pan-fried this time! Highly recommended(and ask for Alex — she is AWESOME)!!

I tried twice, with real effort, to like this place. Both times, they were out of many beers, and by their own admission, the beer menu is out of date and should not be consulted. We went to the German beer dinner… no German food. The food they did serve was not good. I paid $ 60 and did not eat. Came back for the German fare and got the Bratwurst. Not good. Squishy, pale, undercooked and under flavored is what I experienced. Based on both visits, it also seems like they are against fully cooking bread. Raw dough is such a turn off. The bartenders on the first visit were great… knowledgeable and friendly. The one on the second visit was eager to please and nice but shorted us heavily on the beer pours. All this said, I have friends that are in love with this place and my husband was happy with his Schnitzel. However, I will not give this another go.

This place is pretty good. Traditional food that is not bad plus one of the largest beer selections in Albuquerque. The owners are very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. Staff is super. Patio is small but cool. However the last few times we have been here the food was undercooked and half the beers were out.

When we were little, there were always special occasions when mom and dad decided Hey, forget cooking, it’s Friday night, Let’s Go Out. My sister and I would overhear such things and turn to one another, starry eyed, the possibilities were, well, certainly not endless. Not because we didn’t have options, but our parents were, eh, Midwestern.(This was in Minneapolis, mind you.) We didn’t exactly try anything new, per se. But there were a handful of family faves that made these spur-of-the-moment revelations particularly salivating. Shakey’s pizza? Pepitos? Vescio’s? And every once in a while dad would say, How about Black Forest? I had no idea what the actual Black Forest was, but it didn’t matter. As far as I was concerned the restaurant was aptly named. It was that place with the horrible, bewitched German food. The worst, ever. My sister hated it, too. I’ll spare you the details except to note that this vile, flaccid eatery offered nothing but swill to my seven year-old palate. No tomato sauce, no fries, no gosh darn flavor. It was a black hole, as defined by Wikipedia as exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing – including particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light – could escape from inside it. The Great Void. And so I found myself last week entering Albuquerque’s first real attempt at German cuisine, The Heimat House, some thirty years later — now a parent. I hashtag LovedTheBeerSelection, plenty of taps unknown throughout the rest of the city. I gazed longingly at the fetching patio, perfect for Octoberfest, and then noted that there were booths adjacent to televisions, wherein I might ignore my kids and watch the game. I noted that the place was gorgeous inside, natural polished wood booths and tables, spacious, with just enough natural light to offset that creepy darkness that’s strangely endemic to German-endowed entities of any kind, anywhere.(I should know, it’s part of my genetic makeup. I mean, if it can happen to Volkswagen…) And then I tried the food. Here’s where I let you in on the reason I was there: I was writing a feature about the restaurant for a local publication, so I can’t comment on the service, but I can tell you that I sampled about 15 frickin’ dishes, and I’m telling you, not a single one disappointed. They were, simply put, German. Hefty, creamy, sometimes salty but typically mundane, the kind of thing we expect from the Krauts, my stomach instantly gained 10 pounds. European soul food. Highlights included the housemade Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese dip, Hungarian spicy sausage soup, schnitzel, rouladen and stroganoff. The kind of thing I would have run screaming from when I was little. I avoided this place from the get-go based on online reviews and everyday word-of-mouth. No longer. The next time we say Let’s Go Out, I’m headed here. Screw the kiddos.

I loved the pork snitzle but the sides were garbage. I was drunk to take it for what it is but all i tasted wad pepper on macaroni and gross cabage. The red sauce is great, the mushroom sauce wad thick and must have been canned mushrooms. I place this third, shady tree second and 2nd st drewery numer 1 snitzle in nm. Idk this review was after like 3 flights of beer which was mostly generic tasting to me and im no expert. Only 2 were gross i had to just chug cause i paid for it. Now that i think of it, i may not visit again.

I had heard mixed reviews on the food, but the one solid thing every said was how extensive the beer list is. Indeed it was; an excellent smörgåsbord of local and German brews. My friend knew the owner so she came over and gave us the rundown on the menu and gave me some samples of their new drafts to try. The Zeppelin unfiltered Lager smelled super good and paired well with the sausage sampler. The food was a little different — the saurkraut was more mild, my friend’s stroganoff was more seasoned and less sour cream based — but it was all good. Different from the German food I have eaten previously out of state, but I couldn’t find a thing to complain about. I’d return alone just for the beer!

Rarely do I give 5 stars to any place… and what a strange place to happen upon in New Mexico! The 5 stars is for the menu and the overall experience. Many«German» restaurants serve just sausage… oh and sometimes pretzels. That is not German to me. German is Koenigsbergklopse or Kohlroulade which is excactly what we got. In ginormous portions… Like really… huge portions, I couldn’t believe it. The Klopse are Prussian meatballs and white zingy zangy sauce, and lemme tell you, the balls are huge and plentiful. We got the kohlroulade(stuffed cabbage) with both sauces and I really enjoyed the mushroom sauce while my dining companion preferred the tomato sauce. Anyway…I highly recommend Heimat House if you are in the area. GOGOGO.

Our dinner was so delicious! Let me start by saying, I am the daughter of a German mother who is a very good cook and I have visited Germany multiple times and had some amazing meals there. Understandable, I have pretty high standards when it comes to German food. Between my husband, son and I, we had the Hungarian mushroom soup, jäger schnitzel, vegetarian mushroom stroganoff, sauerbrauten, dumplings, red cabbage, potato pancakes, and cheese spaetzle. Once all the food arrived, I realized we may have went over board in ordering but my son can eat a lot. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and since the servings were large we ended up with lots to take home. The only tweak I would suggest is the potato in the potato pancakes being more fully cooked. As a vegetarian, I was really grateful for the abundance of vegetarian options on the menu — something I did not find while in Germany this summer. The vegetarian mushroom soup and stroganoff were both really good, as was the spaetzle. In addition to the wonderful food and good service, the beer selection is the best in NM. They have beers on tap that no other restaurant in NM has ever had before(I only know this because my beer snob husband told me). I hope they open their beer garden soon though so we can enjoy these great beers there as well. This was not our first time dining at Heimat House as we went soon after they opened. While we enjoyed our previous meal as well, I think the food and service were even better last night. I hope to visit again soon and try to save room for some of the great looking dessert we had to pass on because we were too full.

The food is amazing. It’s really hard to find places that serve German food, so this was really exciting! The pierogis were an excellent appetizer. I ordered the Kohlrouladen which was very filling. I would definitely recommend this place for the food and for the beer.

I’m torn…3 stars? or 4? So I’ve been here a few times and I have to say that this by far is the best installation that has been housed here. Installation? What I mean to say is that out of all the restaurants/bars/etc that have rotated into the space, this is hands down the best! To start, their wine and beer menu is quite impressive. There is sure to be something for every palette. We thoroughly enjoy the Kasteel Rouge on tap. I don’t know of another establishment in town that has it on tap. We fell in love with this beer in Colorado and buy the $ 144-pack at Total Wine on special occasions. They had a few kegs of The Abyss on tap but they ran out and it doesn’t sound like they’ll be getting any more. Moving on to the food. I’ve had the pretzel, brussel sprouts salad with spicy vinaigrette(they’re not kidding, it has a good kick!), cucumber salad, sausage plate(appetizer), Hungarian sausage spicy soup; and I’ve tried the stroganoff, pot roast plate, and mushroom soup. All excellent and with great service the first two times. However, the last two times that we’ve been in. The soup was only lukewarm, the order was messed up twice, and getting a refill took a while. I really hope it was just off nights because we really enjoy this place.

Food: 3 Service: 5 Value: 3 Like usual, we wanted to try everything so we over-ordered, again. Skipped out on any beers(they have many, many on tap), in order to order more food. As an appetizer, we started out with the pretzel with beer cheese. The pretzel itself was delicious, but would’ve been a little better with additional salt. The beer cheese was OK, but not really our kind of thing. We both ordered a soup; I ordered the mushroom soup, which was hearty and delicious. The spicy Hungarian sausage soup is very good, but very, very spicy. In addition to everything, we also decided to order their pierogies, which was somewhat disappointing. They were slightly bland, and needed a kick. At Polka’s(in Los Angeles), we’ve ordered them sauteed in bacon, which definitely enhances the flavor. To add some flavor to them, we dipped them into our soups, which helped. The wife ordered stuffed cabbage(Golabki), and she said they were some of the best she’s had. The Polish version comes with a heavy tomato sauce, and were excellent. The potatoes that came with needed seasoning, and we substituted for the cucumber salad, which was unfortunately over-seasoned with dill. I ordered the schnitzel with the mushroom sauce. The sauce itself was underwhelming, and the schnitzel needed additional seasoning; it was better after adding some salt and pepper, which I almost never do. It came with some spaetzle, which was pretty bland and needed seasoning. The cucumber salad was also very over-seasoned with dill. We saw the dessert and some of it looked pretty good, but we passed due to the overabundance of food.
