One of the few municipal golf courses in town. Los Altos is a full 18 hole course(with a nice executive course nestled inside) that provides a nice round for locals and visitors. The course is well maintained for the amount of play it gets. The course has various«specials» throughout the year, so check with the pro shop for the current rates. The course is quite reasonable at all times. Play is appropriate for all levels of golf, beginner to advanced. Lots of grass with a few areas of «native» grasses(see dirt and tumbleweeds). If not busy a round can easily be played(walk or ride) in under 4 hours. Like any course, if you get a few yo-yos in front of you, can take longer. Many people prefer to go to the various Indian courses around, but Los Altos can provide a great golfing experience without the need for a long drive(pun intended).

I’m a total n00b when it comes to golf so I don’t really know what qualifies as «bad» or «awesome» in a golf course. HOWEVER, as someone who has recently tried their hand at picking up the game, this is a good starter course that is not too intimidating. Rather than just swinging at the driving range, a friend recommended we try the short course here(9 hole«executive» is what they call it). Two things that made it awesome for me were 1) easy(most holes were par 3s and a couple of 4s) and straightforward 2) it was the right price(around $ 13). I know how the scoring goes but every time in the past when I thought about playing golf, visions of Happy Gilmore pranced through my head. I’m much more an aggressive sport kinda girl. A sport that requires focus, accuracy, and consistency seems like it would frustrate me in 5 seconds flat. It’s a disaster waiting to happen at least where I’m concerned. Not that any random person reading this review cares that I yell at the ball if it doesn’t go where it’s supposed to(«GOHOME, BALL! YOUTOOGOODFORYOURHOME?!»), the executive gave me a good feel for the game. While my score was atrocious(i stopped counting…), I think I may actually keep trying. So, all in all, if you’re looking for a quick game just to get out or you’re just starting and 18 holes will take you the better part of a week to finish, I can recommend the 9 hole course. If you know what you’re doing, the 9 holes will be a breeze. When I know more about what I’m talking about and 8 year olds don’t pass me on the course, I can update. :-)
