I’m actually penning this review as I fly out of the McCarran airport in Las Vegas, NV. Looking out the window I’m seeing rectangle after turquoise rectangle of private pools, they’re everywhere, and it’s much worse in cities like Phoenix. For whatever reason, Burqueños buck the pool trend; I know all of two people who own one, and the rest of us suckers resort to whining and pining for our old water park, The Beach, and occasionally going the public pool route. Occasionally, that is, until we have kids. It’s the middle of the summer and my four year-old has been holding her breath under the bathtub water far too long. So we head to this pool on a Saturday at noon(when it opens) and the first thing I notice is that early birds definitely get the prime, shaded real estate in the grass, so plan to be one of the first in line. Second, I note that the waterslides look fly and following a couple rides, they act that way, too. There’s a kiddie pool, about two feet deep, for the toddlers and otherwise plenty of room in the big kid pool, but be warned: the second time we visited, at 3pm, the place was at capacity. Again, get here early.
