In this small town of 3600 people, there’s a Sicilian gentleman by the name of Joe who opened this trattoria X years ago. It’s one of the town’s finer establishments — apparently the spot for pre-high school dance dining, date night, and family outings. I, personally, was visiting my friend’s hometown and her family treated our group to dinner. We were in the back dining area, which I can assume is reserved for private events, and had the entire room. We enjoyed a multi-course dinner: starting with salads with choice of dressing; pasta al pomodoro — made with basil from their side garden; pasta milanese; eggplant, steak, potatoes and asparagus… and dessert. Yes, all that food. And wine. Food was outstanding, Service was good. And we even got a visit from Joe himself. Highly rec and wish this biz another 30+ years of success.

You would not expect this quality of Italian food from a restaurant in a small town like Aledo. My wife and I went there for the first time with some friends from the area last week. They know the owner who is originally from Sicily. It is not quite a hole in the wall, but it is a very unassuming local joint. The owner started out bringing us some homemade sausage he had just prepared. It was very tasty, not hot but with a great balance of spices. Next came the Sicilian bread I think it was called. Large appetizer of bread stuffed with sausage and cheese served with a light meat sauce. At first I was skeptical of the sauce until I tasted it. It’s fantastic. And the bread does not skimp on the good stuff. Lots of sausage. I ordered the chicken parm. It is a staple of every Italian joint I’ve been to, and it’s always been a good indicator of how good an Italian restaurant is going to be for me. Wow was it ever good. The chicken had obviously been hammered to a consistent thickness, which gave it a very hearty bite. Then it was breaded and fried perfectly. There was nothing greasy about it. And the cheese and sauce really set it apart. No one around the table complained about any of their dishes, and I could see why our friends raved about it. We are definitely going back.
