Belle View Exxon

I have only bought gas here a few times because I was desperate or dumb. The prices are up to 30 cents higher than the gas stations on North Washington Street in Old Towne, or on US 1. Even the Shell up the road is cheaper, and they are not «cheap» I think they can only stay in business because old people don’t realize how overpriced it is.
The first time I used this place I needed mid-​grade so pulled up and started pumping from the middle pump. When I was done, I realized they had switched the high octane to the middle pump. No doubt this was to scam people that did not pay close attention. Since then I have looked at every gas station I use and it ALWAYS goes Low, Mid, High. Also, it was VERY CLEAR they had moved the labels because they were put back on crooked. Good word ;-)
It is a free market and they are welcome to charge $ 100/​gallon, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone pays.
Can I give a negative 5 stars?

Went in for VA safety inspection. They were fast, friendly and efficient. By the time I returned from walking across the parking lot to Starbucks the car nearly done.

Came in for an emission check, they told me it would cost $ 1200 to fix my exhaust pipe and engine mounts. Took it over to Midas, they did it for $ 200. Don’t waste your time.

I’m sorry to say it, but these people are thieves. The pump charged me for supreme when I pushed regular, which amounted to a $ 10 overcharge. I usually don’t get a receipt, but this time I did, and when I showed them the receipt (which does NOT indicate the octane) the lady printed a receipt which did have ‘super’ on it, and insisted that I pumped 93 instead of 87. I NEVER put anything but regular in my car, and I am quite familiar with Exxon pumps.
The degree of preparedness that the cashier and manager showed in dismissing my complaint tells me that this is nowhere near the first time this has happened to a customer. It felt like a practiced scam, and I would strongly warn anyone from buying gas at this location.
I intend to file a complaint with corporate, and may possibly seek a media exposure of this station.

I just called in to ask a question about getting a certificate for a state inspection and the lady who answered the phone was completely rude and disrespectful. She didn’t answer my question and basically told me to just show up so someone else can answer for me. This defeats the purpose of the phone call. I called in order to avoid driving all the way over there. So she told me to go over there and to ask the inspector and he will help me «Ok bye» and she hung up on me. :/
Not cool at all! Never going there again!

Truly just had the most bizarre experience.
I pulled in to fill up my tires. I park in the only spot not blocked by snow (we just had winter storm Jonas). Middle aged, sharply dressed Middle Eastern man is staring me down as I park across from the air pumps since they are being used. I realize I don’t have quarters, so I get out of my car to go get change.
As I’m walking up the cashier stops me outside and asks how she can help. I tell her I need change. She is shoveling. As I let her finish up, I go inside because it’s cold. She comes in followed by the sharply dressed man. They both go behind the counter. I give her the five dollar bill and say, «Can I have four dollars of quarters?» Her response: «Are you KIDDING me?» Perplexed by her flash of attitude, I let it go and don’t say anything. She gives me two dollars in quarters and three one dollar bills. Not what I asked for but, whatever, I guess she doesn’t have four dollars in quarters. As I’m counting my quarters and as the words ‘thank you’ start to form, the man yells, «YOU’RE WELCOME!» Now let’s just pause here for a second. I’m counting my change. I haven’t turned around, started walking away — nothing. I’m just standing at the counter making sure she’s given me eight quarters. I look up and stare at him for a few second and then ask, «What did you say?» «I said, ‘You’re welcome!’»
WHAT!!! I cannot emphasize how totally unprovoked this snide comment was. I truly have no idea what he’s coming at me! So I get defensive and ask, «What’s the problem?» He ignores me. Like, you’re going to buck at me and be a tough guy, but then you’re not going to elaborate one what I did that so offended you?! «I was counting my change. You didn’t even give me a chance to say ‘thank you’.» The lady starts waving at me as if to say, ‘Just go, ignore it.’ Being the badass I am, I say «You’re rude! Very rude!» I really showed him!
It was a really weird experience. I’m more confused than offended. Needless to say, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

The employees here are great, friendly and professional. The gas price is always so much higher than everywhere else!

I was just at this gas station earlier today. I needed a inspection in a hurry and was greeted by a very well polite gentlemen. He and his team not only helped me with my request but they were able o fix my issues at a very inexpensive price. It is very difficult to find great services with extremely low prices. This will be my one stop shop for ALL of my car services. If you ever go here ask for Alex, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Someone in our neighborhood ListServ complained that their seemingly new wiper had to be replaced before the car could pass inspection. MANY «me too» responses. Since then, I’ve boycotted.

Hey owner Moe, get a new cashier who can explain directions in clear English. Find a different manager than Maribel Grande that actually starts state safety inspection on time @ 0800. I know good help is hard to find, but it shouldn’t be hard to replace these two, can’t get much worse.

I’ve been here twice this week for two vehicle safety inspections. Service was quick and both cars needed one light. They took care of it on the spot so I didn’t have to come back. I had similar fast service last year for emissions.

Respectful of my intelligence, my time and my wallet. I’ll go back every time.

It may seem petty, but I pulled in to vacuum my car the other day, got change from the woman at the register (I’m guessing the owner) and put in the $ 2 in quarters. The vacuum was running, but had no suction. So I reported the problem and asked for another $ 2 in quarters to use the other vacuum they have. She wouldn’t give it to me, saying they don’t own the machines. OK, annoying but I get it. So I asked for my $ 2 back and again she said no, she can’t do it because they don’t own the vacuum. She wouldn’t give me change for the other vac and wouldn’t refund the $ 2 I lost, but she did say she would take my phone number & call when the vac owner gave the $ to her to hold for me. The fact that she’s only be down $ 2 for a couple hours until the repairman/​vac owner came was beyond her comprehension. As was the fact that I’d have to drive 20 minutes each way just to get the $ 2. On top of all that, they never called, so I’m guessing I’ll never see the $ 2. Of course I can’t let that go and I will stop by every time I pass the station and ask about my $ 2.
Really, a very small, first-​world problem but seriously the worst customer service ever.

Updated to add that I was easily able to replace my own door handle with the $ 15 part and about 30 minutes. So there is no conceivable way it should’ve been $ 330 to fix the handle, which is the quote that Belle View Exxon gave me for this repair. I’m not a mechanic and don’t have any background in auto repair. This was just a cheap, easy fix that they tried to grossly overcharge me for.

So I reluctantly kept going to this station to buy gas b/​c they honored Safeway rewards points, but that seems to have gone away too. For weeks it hasn’t been working. No signs, no info. The other Exxons don’t seem to have a problem.

This review is limited to fuel pricing.
This Exxon is one of two service stations easily accessed from the George Washington Parkway, using the Belle View Boulevard exit. (The other one is a Shell service station easily seen from the Belle Haven Road exit.)
In addition to be situated in an upper income neighborhood, and because there are so few fuel options for drivers along the George Washington Parkway south of the City of Alexandria, the station owner over charges for regular, supreme, and diesel.
If you must use this service station, get enough gas (one gallon should do the trick) to get you and your vehicle to a more sensibly priced filling station.

We’ve taken our family’s cars to this station for about 14 years, and I am not challenging the integrity of any of the other reviewers, but it’s as if they are reviewing some other business.
Belle View Exxon has kept our two older cars on the road safely for a long time. On the few occasions when I thought they might have recommended a repair I didn’t need immediately, the station manager has always talked through the options with me. Sometimes I decide to hold off for a while, and sometimes I don’t, but I get the information I need to make a decision.
I keep a close watch on our finances, and whenever I review my repair receipts (which date back to 2002), I can find no evidence that they have ever charged me for an unnecessary repair, and when I calculate the total cost of repairs on a monthly basis, it’s about what one would expect.
Yes, if you’re looking for gasoline, there are cheaper options that are closer to major highways. Thus, I don’t get gas very often at this station, but I do take my cars here for maintenance whenever they need it, and if you live in the area I recommend you give them a try.

I keep going back for inspections because their system is efficient (wait in the line painted on their parking lot). And it’s in the shopping center so easy to find something to do.
But they always say windshield wiper needs replacing. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I just pay it as part of a convenience change I guess. Mechanics are friendly.
As everyone else mentions, never get has here. Prices are significantly higher than anywhere else. Bb

I’ve had my car serviced here several times over the years and Wes always took good care of my jeep. I’ve always found them friendly and professional!
I have NO idea where these bad reviews come from sure their gas is more expensive but no more so than other out of the way stations!
And they are one of the VERY FEW full service stations!
Their mechanics are good and I’ve always been well treated!
I smell some kind of a smear campaign!

This place is the reason why you have to read Unilocal before venturing into any business. Trust me, Unilocalers, the reviews don’t lie, for this place should absolutely be your last resort in care repair. If it were the doomsday apocalypse and this was the only option, I would still suggest searching for other options.
My two favorite tales from this automotive quagmire involve a set of keys stuck in my car’s ignition ($ 400 please) and an estimate to replace my car’s alternator ($ 400 please part not included) Now in both instances I didn’t didn’t succumb to Jessie James and co.operation. I asked questions and quickly determined that something was certainly rotten in the great state of Belle View Exxon. Regarding, my stuck ignition, I pulled up to ask a mechanic to ask if he could get my keys out of the ignition. He said that he could but that it would cost $ 400. What!!? Why, so much?
«Well, you see we have to pull the ignition and the part alone cost $ 200.»
«Hey, I got an idea. Why don’t you just mug me. It would be quicker.»
I quickly drove up to Advanced Auto and found that $ 200 part for $ 13.50. My friend installed the part in less than 20 minutes,
Now, I understand that this business cannot be blamed for the shenanigans of a rouge mechanic so that’s why when my car’s alternator died literally right next to this shop (I’m not kidding) I decided that it had to be a cheaper option than having it towed somewhere else. «How much to change out an alternator for my car?» The clerk to my information down, and said, «You can go out and buy your own part if you want and we will install it for you.» Wow! that sounded great, for a number of garages never do that; however, my good vibrations soon came to a crashing halt when she gave me the estimate. $ 400 for labor. What!!!
I reminded her that the alternator was on the top of my car’s engine, and that the replacement of this part shouldn’t take more than 30 – 45 min. So why the outrageous estimate. She started to stumble over her words, saying,“Well, it could be as low as $ 200, but we could run into problems. It could be less.” I fired back, «So when is the last time you came in lower than your quoted estimate?»
Silence
I told her that I wouldn’t pay more than $ 200, and miraculously, when they fixed my car, the price came in at $ 198.56. I realize that even this was a bit high, but I was desperate and eager to be on the road again. I would never take my car here again, and I only use this place for gas in the case of emergencies. The only thing I can say good about this place is that the lady who takes money for gas seems to be nice and pleasant. But as for the rest, no way!
