*Four months later* For the amount that you pay for rent you shouldn’t have the following problems: 1. Unprofessional leasing consultants 2. Dirty buildings and property 3. Mice, Mice, Mice, Mice, Mice, Mice, Mice, Mice(over 50 since July 2015) 4. Roaches leaving one apartment and entering another one 5. Broken handrails(that have been reported) 6. A1 towing and«different» parking passes(I’ll explain later) 7. Property Managers who DONOTTAKERESPONSIBILITYFORTHEACTIONSOFTHEIRLEASINGCONSULTANTS! 8. Issues not being resolved in a timely manner Let’s start with issues 1,5,7 and 8 Everything beings and ends with the Property Manager… You know… The young man who sits in the side office and ALLOWS his leasing consultants to handle the major issue. Once you realize that they are clueless and you request to speak to the MOD, he comes out already defensive and tells you why he is right!(Remember this is your first time dealing with him) Issues 2 and 4 In the past 4 months the building had been cleaned 3 times. Cleaning includes sweeping and mopping. You should not have roaches living in your building for the amount of rent that you pay. Brookdale is not a low income housing apartment unit! Issue 6 Brookdale issues tenants temporary/visitor parking passes that you have to sign for. The parking passes are different colors every month. The parking passes are issued by A1 towing. They use the SAMEONE parking pass to issue TWODIFFERENTPASSES. Visitor pass= 2 Brookdale stamps Temporary pass= More than 2 stamps. It took getting my car towed(and A1 towing explaining to me what the difference was) for me to know the difference. Oh yeah, when I got the parking pass I LETTHELEASINGCONSULTANT know that I needed a TEMPORARY pass. He said okay and STILLISSUED me a visitor’s pass. Once again it starts with the Management Team… One more thing I forgot to mention, the Property Management said that it wasn’t their fault, but he gave me a credit of 87.50 towards my rent. I paid 175 to get my car back… ISSUE3 Mice! The whole property has them! Mice hole everywhere! The mice ate throughly gas cords, walls, carpet, food, clothes etc etc etc! Mice on the patios! Now this is where it get interesting… When you report it to the young man who sits in the side office he says that it’s the tenants fault for not reporting it sooner… He sends a team to your building and in ONEDAY the problem is SOLVED! Mouse traps are not cheap and at the end of the day you still share your apartment with the mice who live in the walls!

This is a terrible place to live. I won’t even discuss the bugs or the number of things that are STILL broken in my apartment, let’s just touch on the parking. The apartment(probably) gets a kick-back from the towing company for every car they tow off the property, so they encourage the towing company to take their residents’ cars. The people who helped me move in got their SUV towed while we were in between carrying loads of stuff into the apartment, and I’ve been towed 3 times in the 6 months I’ve lived here. Maybe if you don’t have a car or any friends who would want to visit you this place would be a little less horrible for you. But my advice is RUN far and fast away from this dump.

My review of A-1 Towing was not kind, but in fairness, much of the responsibility lies with Brookdale’s managing company, JBG, not the individual towing company doing their bidding. If JBG told these trolls to clean up their act and start only towing vehicles that appear to be legitimately trespassing, they would. Maintenance generally is terrible, my heating unit has gone out four times in less than two months that I’ve been here, the place has become overrun with cockroaches, and just about everything about the unit that could have been broken upon move-in, was. I am giving this place two stars instead of one, as maintenance has been pretty good about fixing most of the things that were broken, albeit after the fact rather than doing proper maintenance all along. Too, JBG was helpful in getting A-1’s unfair and illegal towing charge waived, which A-1 alone was unwilling to consider. Finally, the place is a relative bargain for the DC area, and with decent amenities including a shuttle to the Metro. So if you’re willing to put up with a bit of crap to get a better deal on an apartment, this may be the place for you. If you’re not, it’s not. /biz/a-1-towing-service-of-northern-virginia-alexandria#hrid:pFOmgjQQ8B-5DA20LTCcbQ
