Im a little surprised by the negative reviews. I drive and ride my bike past this place all the time and decided to stop for breakfast/coffee after jogging the WW bridge. I ordered an omelette and latte. The omelette was made perfectly. The latte was good but was definitely not the best I’d ever had. Their array of baked goods looked really good so I would definitely stop in again to try something on my cheat day.

Worst coffee ever! Tastes like yesterday’s coffee grounds. I had to throw out my latte. Really bad.

Really good coffee, decent pastries. I found the lady who waited on me to be rude, though. I had just walked in a second ago and was looking over the pastry selection. She said«yes?» In a very rude tone and I told her I was just looking. She stared me down the whole time. There was literally no one else waiting behind me.

My fiancé and I love Firehook. I love the coffee and he loves the breakfast sandwich. Have never had anything but a wonderful, positive experience!

GREAT coffee, plump and fresh to order omelette and wonderful pastries! a lot to choose from, prepared fresh to order. And the ladies are adorable, so excited to serve you. We took home some cheesecake and cheese danish. Both were wonderful. Its small, and crooked, rustic, but it makes you happy! How can you not be happy with fresh bread, pastries and coffee?!

So disappointed and waste of money. I really hate how they don’t speak English and the counter around the till is so messy you can’t ever see the prices they are ringing up. I work in the neighborhood and purchased a coffee(gross but there’s no where close for a coffee run) and a veggie panini. It was cold unmelted cheese in the middle with lettuce which made it soggy and blah. I’m so disappointed! I’ve ordered this twice before and it was amazing. What happened? This was a waste of 8 $ but I was hungry so I ate half of it. Check it out

I’ve always been a fan of Firehook Bakery chain. I often grab a cup of coffee at the one on Capitol Hill. So, product-wise, their coffee is great and I was happy with my soy latte here. However, this location in Old Town is dirty! The floors had dirt and grime all over them. The tables were sticky and dusty. And, I doubt the door rug was cleaned/vacuumed/shook out when they opened that morning. While the location is great, the parking is somewhat of a cluster. There are only a few designated spots on one side of the building. The rest is just the big open lot. When I went in this past weekend, someone had basically just parked right in the middle of the lot. They were parked close to the entrance from Wilkes Street and a pole in the parking lot itself, that I couldn’t even get into the lot from that side. Seriously, the were blatantly in the way, blocking entrance and exit, particularly for larger cars. And I doubt the staff really monitor that situation, because the car never moved the whole time I was there. I haven’t had their food here, but if it’s anything like the pastries at the Capitol Hill location, then I know I’ll be happy. My advice, get your coffee and goods to go. You’ll enjoy them so much better in your clean living space!

Right around the corner, so I pop in when I’m out walking my dog. I was pleasantly surprised how yummy the omelets are. My favorites are iced coffee and the chocolate croissants. I’ve started buying my crackers and bread there; they’re reasonably priced and much better than Safeway.

Went here on a Saturday morning for a leisurely weekend coffee and breakfast outing. Thought we’d try this as something new. Thoroughly unimpressed. Service was terrible, hardly spoke English(which I don’t mind if you’re polite), forgot our orders, put them in to-go bags when we were eating in, tables weren’t bussed and there was constant confusion about everyone’s orders. No wonder the place was nearly empty.

Stopped in and had a lemon coconut bar. It was definitely not fresh and tasted stale. The service was okay — not the best but not the worst either. There are so many other bakeries that are so much better. Don’t waste your time here.

My go-to neighborhood bakery! I love their spinach feta croissant for breakfast and their veggie sandwich on ciabatta for lunch. Their ciabatta bread is so good, I buy it for sandwiches at home! I usually stay away from their sweets, just because they’re a little pricey. I don’t drink coffee, but their teas are pretty standard; nothing special. I love supporting local businesses!

Walked in at 0630 this morning and no line, plenty of appealing food items. Chocolate Croissant was really good! Coffee is good and so is the orange juice(in the fridge, which is located on the left as soon as you walk in, top shelf. Marking this five stars because I had good experiences across the board.

Very pleasantly surprised with this place. Seeing the 3.5 star review, we weren’t expecting much when we ended up here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon when we couldn’t find anything else nearby while on our way to Mount Vernon. They had a nice selection of sandwiches and soups, which were all really good, especially on their fresh rolls. Desserts looked good but were just fair. Either way, much better than we were expecting.

A neighborhood establishment that I feel like I don’t get to enough. I am not a coffee drinker, but I like to stop in for the spinach and feta croissant on my morning commute and the occasional iced Chai on walks to the dog park. The spinach and feta croissant is one of the best breakfast deals in town. Delicious both hot or cold(you sometimes have to ask if you want it heated up), the buttery croissant is not lacking in filling. My girlfriend sometimes orders the chocolate-filled croissant and is very satisfied. She likes the coffee too, but puts enough cream and sugar in that it looks more to me like cake batter. We have grabbed sandwiches to go before and were also pleased. The sandwiches often take fifteen-to-twenty minutes to prepare, so if you find yourself in a rush, maybe grab a pre-made sandwich from the cooler by the door. Both the tarragon chicken salad and the curried chicken are fantastic. Always a good decision when I feel like a morning treat. Haven’t tried the breads or confections yet. Service is always prompt – if not a little informal – but it never comes off as unbecoming. A pleasure to have on the south end of Old Town.

I really love Firehook and think their chocolate croissants are just as good as in France. I love going here on the way to work to pick them up, and my co-workers are big fans as well. Even those of us who have lived in or visited France are amazed at their chocolate croissants. They are absolutely superb! They have a lot of regulars in the morning and seem to do a steady business throughout the day. Prices for their croissant breakfast sandwiches are a bit high compared to others in the area, but they are really good. I’ve heard their coffee is good too but have only had one awhile ago. Seemed like good coffee. Prices are comparable.

Delicious food. Got an omelet and tasted the chocolate croissant. Both very yummy! Disappointed that they don’t have wifi. Came here hoping to find a nice coffee place/café to get some work done. I doubt I’ll come back often even though it is tasty because there I pretty much only go to places like this if I can also get some work done.

Such a great place and an outstanding location. Only downfall is that there is minimal seating outside(2 small tables). The menu is small, but everything is delicious. A must try is the ham and cheese croissant(make sure they warm it up!). Prices are good($ 2.80 for a huge croissant) and service is fast.

Firehook Bakery is a family-owned bakery that has been around since ’92 and originates from Washington. The name derives from the hook-shaped tool that was used to pull the baked breads from the oven during the ancient Egyptian times: D Their menu offers cakes, pies, tarts, catering options(breakfast and lunch trays), breads(whole grain, European rye breads, baguettes, loaves, and boules), muffins, cookies, brownies, and hot/cold beverages. I had the Lemon Bar, which was a shortbread baked crust, topped with a tangy lemon custard and a small cup of Chai Latte. The Chai Latte was a little watered down and was not as creamy as I prefer it to be(even with the whole milk). The Lemon Bar, however, was quite delicious! The thin base of the shortbread was not overly sweet and not overwhelming; the generous topping of the lemon custard was yummy — it was tangy and creamy! The staff here were kind and friendly, and there were some tables inside to enjoy your sweets. This is definitely a popular and a favorite spot of the locals, whether to enjoy a quick breakfast pastry or to pick up a cake for special occasions. +Lemon Bar: D +limited parking in front of the bakery

I wanted to love this place, as I enjoy non Starbucks café establishments. The coffee was unremarkable. Not bad but not remarkably good. The first time I went in I saw the lemon raspberry cake sliced open and it looked so good… But I was trying to be good so I didn’t bite. The next time I went for a slice only to be told they don’t do slices… Which lead me to wonder what mystery I saw on my previous visit. So I got a mini key lime pie… It wasn’t good. I love key lime pie and I didn’t finish this. The third time I went I had a friend’s birthday to buy a cake for! So I spent over 20 for that delicious looking lemon raspberry cake and after dinner we cut it open. What. Guys. I love cake. I love it. This cake, we didn’t even finish our slices and that expensive thing went in the trash :-( I don’t know else to say about this maybe it was a fluke. But they really ought to offer slices so people don’t spend like thirty bucks on a lackluster cake. Whomp whomp.
