Four Sales Ltd

We had a contract with Four Sales to have items auctioned off. We contacted them about a month and a half before we were to be out of the house. Asked about selling our goods. We went though each and every room of the house with a representative from the company explaining in detail what would and would not be sold. He then suggested we have the moving company remove the items we did not want to sell, so that he would be able to conduct the sale without having to block off furniture and items that were not to be sold. We took his advice, asked the moving company to come in early, with the additional cost of having our items in storage with the moving company. After 2 weeks of packing and boxing our items, we called the gentleman and asked that he prepare the house for the sale. Reluctantly, he showed up, and abruptly told us (with 1 week and 3 days until we had to be out of the house) that he would not be able to sell our items. His excuse — not enough items to warrant a sale. The house was still ¾ furnished, as we were selling most of the large furniture and other personal items. We explained that we went over the items room by room with him, and he gave us assurances that, Four Sales would be handling our estate sale. And although he did offer to get rid of our furniture through a mix of auction and donation, which, again, was not what we had been promised. Thanks to that very «reasonable and lucrative» new deal we found ourselves having to find a new provider in the week and a half left — this was a stress-​test, which I would not wish on anybody. I would highly recommend anyone looking to have an estate sale done, consider another company, OR VERY LEAST get EVERYTHING in WRITING from the first day you meet with any representative from this company.
However, we were VERY lucky to find iStuff Sellers, Darren came in and performed the sale with wonderful precision, dedication and professionalism that was severely lacking from Four sales. Giving us the happy ending to our home estate sale, we so desperately needed.

WOW! I had procrastinated for years in selling off the old collectibles, guns, knives and odds & ends that I had inherited. I talked to ‘experts’ a few times who offered to buy some of the stuff and pay me about half the value but nobody who would help me with all of it until I talked to Four Sales.
Not only did you take ALL of the stuff I wanted to get rid of (and some of it really seemed like junk), you SOLD it ALL and I got money for it. Even the broken items and the parts and pieces. Best of all, your expert really knew his stuff and spent the time to dig up the right details on the items. He even advised me to keep some of the items either because the sentimental value was higher than the sale value or because the items was rare enough that I really shouldn’t sell it. I didn’t always take his advice but I was happy to have it none the less!
In the end you did several things for me that nobody else offered with any confidence:
1) You gave me honest advice on the value of my items
2) You took ALL the stuff I wanted to get rid of
3) You got me far more $ for the items than I expected
4) You gave me a very thorough accounting of the sales results

I just returned from a Four Sales estate sale — the items are WAY OVERPRICED. In my opinion Four Sales has ruined the estate sale market — Why would I buy something for 90% of the original price when it is a USED, OLD item that I have to haul away myself — I could buy it NEW for the same price, or even less — or just a little more and have better service — with a warranty, instructions, new condition, etc. This is the LAST Four Sales estate sale that I attend. Very disappointed — I think they are a rip off. Small items are priced appropriately, but WATCH OUT FOR THE FURNITURE, ETC. Go online.

It’s taken a year and half to write this revue. My FIRST clue should’ve been when Daniel did not allow my choice of where unsold items were to go to. I had a local charity that I wished my pieces would go to — NO was his answer. He had some ‘fake’ bulls**t place it would all go.
I overheard one of the female workers the final sale date (Sunday) «No! That’s pricey — wrap it and put it here». I was told not to return the final day until 4 hrs after it ended. Thank god I listened to my instinct and came home an hour prior to it ending. They would’ve stolen us blind!

Outstanding service from the first contact. The initial meeting was in person and scheduled promptly with Daniel from Four Sales. He was very professional and answered all my questions about the process. Throughout the next few months we stayed in touch while I waited to get a contract on my home.
When we got the contract, Four Sales scheduled my weekend sale and did the marketing and preparation required. I got a call from the onsite team right away and scheduled their time.
The onsite prep team was right on time and extremely efficient. When it came time for the sale, we never had fewer than 15 – 20 cars at all times — very well done.
Cleanup was outstanding and settlement quick — I am very pleased.

We had a house full of my mother-​in-​laws collecting (and inheriting) over her lifetime and some of it was valuable, some of it in between and some of it worth very little. We called in Four Sales and their approach seemed good. We didn’t have the time to individually sell items and we wanted to be able to donate items that could be well used by others. We paid the upfront cost of two trucks — one for donating and one for auction sales (no minimum bid — this is important because it meant that they didn’t necessary have the right buyers in the room — everything went for fire sale prices!) and we were told that the house would be emptied. I was there to oversee the process but left to be on a work call in my car outside as they finished up. I was provided an inventory of big items that would auctioned (we would get 60% of the income) but most of the items classified as «smalls» and I had no idea what went to auction and what would be donated. I had to trust them that they were doing what we agreed to. The other truck was supposed to take everything else for donation but when I went to check the house after they left, there was another truckload of things that they left, as though they weren’t even worth donating. Things like italian dishware sets, wooden salad bowls, glassware, etc. Things I would have brought to Goodwill over the years and know they could sell. After I called to inquire why the house was not emptied per our agreement, it was explained that even donation charities were worried about their warehouses filling up before Christmas and so these items would not be accepted by the charities. After some back and forth in which they offered to pick up the items if I paid for another $ 425 truck, they did complete the job, but it put a very bad taste in my mouth and I felt that these items had been landfilled. I got a receipt for donated items that barely came up to $ 3000 and they never did provide a real receipt from a qualified charity. Not sure if their receipt will be accepted by IRS or not. And then all the other items supposedly went to auction over the next month. I got a check for less than $ 4000 for a house full of beautiful furniture, china, antique dolls, wedqewood, paintings, statues, ceramics, lamps, multiple sewing machines, rugs, grandfather clock, etc. (then deduct the $ 850 I paid for trucks!) I’m not sure how much I expected but it’s hard to believe we didn’t get ripped off by the entire process. The owner explained to me when he came to look at the business that b/​c so many people are dying and leaving their houses full of stuff, it was a great business to be in. I should have stopped our dealings right there. I feel like he took great advantage of us and our situation and we would have done better to find a dealer who took more interest in the items themselves — we all could have gotten more value from this lifetime’s collection. Keep looking for another dealer or someone who will hold the sale at the house location… Our ambition was to empty the house so we could sell it — and we accomplished that — but this process made us feel very dirty/​ripped off and I’m sorry to think that so many items that could have been put back in circulation wound up in a landfill.

This review is a little late because I moved 18 months ago, but Dan Sanders and his team relieved me of the stress of liquidating and moving 23 years worth of home. Though I thought the cost were high, Four Sales handled my estate sale with professionalism and aplomb and all I did was move out. Within a few days I received an impressive check with accounting and I went on to rebuild my life and redecorate my new home. I truly recommend Four Sales.

This company typically has pictures but I’ve learned not to waste my time because the prices are similar to Target’s prices. I spend my time and money at the various other company sales. When I see Four Sales I stay away.
Update: the sales are very well run & organized. I’m certain it is a profitable business but not for my money.

After unexpectedly buying a place that came furnished, I had a full house of furniture to quickly part with. Rather than trying my luck with online postings or having strangers traipse through my house for weeks, I called Four Sales. And I’m glad I did.
Working with Daniel on the phone was a pleasure: he’s very knowledgeable about the pre-​owned furniture market, price setting, and DMV area transport rates. He took the time to work out a plan that would work best for me rather than pushing the all-​too-​common one-​size-​fits-​all /​take-​it-​or-​leave-​it approach some hustlers force on customers.
Unloading pre-​owned furniture is a rough business, especially considering that the original owners will never get anything close to what they paid for the pieces at the initial sale. Even «good stuff» does not usually have a high resale value or even resale potential. Daniel helped me understand the real, current value of furniture and offered a few services (buy/​sell, donate, or scrap) for every piece.
Is it possible I could have shopped around for months and made a few dollars more? Maybe, but, in the end, Four sales’ candor and convenience trumps the few dollars more you may, possibly be lucky enough to make through a private estate sale.

My mother recently retired and wanted to downsize her house and possessions before going on an extended trip to Europe. We contacted Four Sales Estate Auctions and could not have had a better experience!
They came in and did a thorough assessment of all of her household goods. We loved that they cleared out the entire house. Almost all of her items sold at auction and those that did not, Four Sales donated them to local charity.
What a great way to pay for a complete move and to downsize an entire household !
We could not be more pleased with our experience and have recommended them more than a couple of times to our close friends and family.

I wasn’t happy with their services. I actually sold some items through them but wish that I hadn’t.
Daniel came to my family home and took a few items to sell. He told me that the majority of items in my parent’s home were «unsaleable» and «not worth the time», and I should hire someone to haul them to the dump. However, when I hired another estate sales company afterwards, a lot of the items did actually sell, and I was really glad I hadn’t paid to have it all trashed like he advised! Seriously.
He seemed most interested in small, portable and high-​value objects like guns and coin and stamp collections. I think they make their business work by cream-​skimming –they take the most valuable objects and sell them at a steep profit to themselves (I should also note that the other company I hired also took a smaller percentage commission) and they advise you to just dump everything else. They are not interested in helping you through a difficult time of transition, that’s for sure. (Doesn’t this whole review sound like I’m biased, or like I work for another company? I don’t. It was just a difficult time –selling my demented parent’s belongings – and they made it more difficult, rather than less.)

Four Sales is a commission used auction service company. They are very honest, friendly, and prompt. We were downsizing, and they took our better pieces, sold them at auction, and earned us a handsome penny for the lot. They are honest about what they think will sell, and what they think will not sell, which is very useful when you have these kinds of decisions to make.
