This store has been around for many years and when folks come to visit us who used to live in the area their visit ALWAYS includes a trip to the variety store! They carry lovely fabrics which is lacking in our area of Fairfax County. They carry hard to find items in every dept. Always helpful and reasonably priced.

If I ever need something crafty, the variety store is my first place to look. They have everything from piñatas and tee shirts to dog toys and glassware
The prices can be a little high, but that’s the price you pay for an amazing little shop close by.

Charming general store with a variety of goods, ranging from satin ribbons to kitchenware. Staff was knowledgable, down to earth, patient, and friendly. Highly recommend.

I sure do love this place. It reminds me of my Grandma, whom I adore — and when I get the time, it’s is a much anticipated trip. They have crafts, toys, household goods, gifts, cards, candles, organizers, school supplies, artsy things, flowers, fabric… it’s a wonderland. :)

I used to live in Alexandria and this store was my favorite! Every time I go back to the DC area I stop here. If you are a crafter, collector, gifter, teacher, shopper or explorer, then this is the store for you! I miss it so much since I moved out of the area!

Needed a $ 5 gift for my child’s preschool party and I had many choices here. I was so happy. My girls were, too because of all the toys. I have experienced a couple rude workers there who were young high school looking students. I come here for the merchandise, but not for the exquisite customer service.

How I have missed writing a review here is beyond me because this maybe the coolest store ever! I agree with Monk– if they don’t have it you don’t need it!
Do you want to feel that giddy excitement of being a kid again when the world seemed perfect and candy was fun to look at a dream about?
This is the place. At Halloween the employees dress up. At Christmas it is magical, at the 4th of July it feels like the 4th of July. This is the Brigadoon of variety stores!

They have everything you really need. It’s an old 5 and dime, with seasonal favorites, inexpensive gifts, fabric, notions, plastic flowers etc. Is the perfect store to take small children to by a present for mom, a place of total wonder.

If they don’t have it, you can live without it. Seriously, FIVE kinds of nonabrasive cleanser? Percolator replacement parts? Nick-​L-​Nips? The candy section alone will send geriatrics into a reverie. Candy cigarettes, Sky Bars, licorice pipes, it’s all there. Old timey toys, an extensive fabric and craft selection, and a stationery department round out this corner store that is a throwback to a simpler time before megamalls.

this is the best «General Store» I have experienced to date in Northern VA. It’s great.

Eh — it’s definitely your run of the mill loose change shop. They definitely have a wide variety of different knick-​knacks, and the staff (for the most part — don’t get me started on some of teenagers that they hire) are pretty friendly. It’s a large, pretty well organized store with everything from penny candy to kitchen supplies, and everything in between. My «problem» with it is that nothing wows me — it’s a very average store. Maybe I’m expecting too much from a store that’s over 40 years old, and is in a shopping center that still has ties to 1954. It’s definitely the right place to buy last minute items and cheap party favors, but not the place one should go if you’re looking for the perfect gift. And having lived within walking distance from it for ¾ of my life, I can guarantee you that it’s definitely a kid friendly store.

My family and I have been going to the Variety store since I was a runt. It is like a miniature Walmart with a wide array of products. If you can’t find it there then I would just stop looking in general.
