I wanted to like the place but couldn’t. Maybe their food is better than their bar… Jolleys had poor service and poorly trained staff. As someone who has and continues to work in a bar, I try to be patient and flexible because I know what its like to be in that position but this was ridiculous. What do I mean by poor service and poorly trained staff? The bartender was inattentive. Over the span of 40+ minutes, she refused to simply shoot water into a glass for me when I asked three times when it wasn’t even busy. The manager ended up getting me some the first time I tried asking her. She was under pouring shots and my drink, I was watching while I sat at the bar the whole time I was there. She also didn’t know how to garnish a vodka soda, which is a basic beyond basic drink. The staff left the caps on each liquor bottle behind the bar as if they were getting ready to close… but it was 8pm and the bar wasn’t even close to closing.

In love with the food and the service! Amazing kitfo and tibs! My favorite Ethiopian recipes! I can’t wait for Sunday brunch with cultural coffee ceremony.

What a gem! We wandered into this Ethopian restaurant tucked off of Pickett near Nicks. Delicious vegetarian options like lentils, yellow split peas and perfectly cooked collard greens. Yum! Then the generous tibs(spiced cooked beef) came out. Nom. Nom. Nom. The manager Solomon then informed us that thursday night is salsa night! Lo and behold, the unassuming strip mall café opens into a hookah lounge with a salsa DJ on Thursdays. Best surprise of the night. Check this Alexandria joint out. Pro tip: The kitchen stays open until 130 am and they have a burger on the menu for the less adventurous types.

If you ever looking for some great Ethiopian food and happen to be in DC area, stopping in Alexandria to be treated at Jolley’s lounge and restaurant should be on your to-do list. The service is top notch and the food sumptuous! Their vegetable combo is made straight out of heaven. The lentils(red, yellow and green) and collards are divine and so are the carrots with potatoes and And best part is every time we go they seem change one of two dishes from the combo with an entirely new item(s). So yes, they absolutely cater to your vegan needs. The owner Solomon greets you with the same enthusiasm as a dear friend would.

Ethiopian is my favorite cuisine. I soooo wanted to adore this food. The reviews are impressive. The restaurant décor is appealing after you find the door and walk down what seems to be a service entrance. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. I ordered lamb tibs and a veggie combo. The lamb itself was flavorful, but the veggies were a disappointment(under seasoned, inconsistent textures). I’ve had better injera. Maybe my palette is too sophisticated(something I heard on the Food Network). Nothing was outstanding. I’ll give it another try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get there.

This place is really good. I stopped by via Groupon after a Halloween festival for a meal to-go. I ordered beef tibs and the vegetarian platter. The vegetarian platter was so damn good. Honestly, I was worried about the flavors because in my experience some just don’t know how to properly season, but their veggies were so flavorful. I even enjoyed the cabbage mix. The beef tibs were a little dry for me(I LOVESAUCE), next time I think I’m going straight for the Kitfo, which is actually what I originally wanted but just went with the tibs instead since that’s what was highly advertised and also recommended by my server. Anyway, I can’t wait to come back and get some more food from here. I loved it. Food is a little expensive though but that’s not stopping me. So good — can’t stop thinking about it.

This a great place. We had the veggie platter and shint tibbs and it was so delicious and fresh. The atmosphere was warm and the service is impeccable. We would come here again and again.

First time I had Ethiopian cuisine and I wasn’t disappointed. Our waiter and the owner showed us great hospitality. The food was great. We shared 2 recommended specialties among 3 persons and we were stuffed. Even ate with our hands(of course they had utensils if you prefer that). Overall a great experience.

My boyfriend and I were looking to get out and have some fun! Jollys was way more then expected! The music was great, the food was flavorful, hookah was what hookah should be and the drinks were STRONG ! Everyone there just wanted to get messed up and have a good time. A live band was performing which made it even better, We weren’t stuck listening to the same songs played on the radio! The greeters and waiters were nice and attentive. The main reason I love Jollys is because it’s not a bunch of teenagers looking for trouble. its a great place to drink, dance, blow smoke and enjoy your night.

Incredibly delicious fresh food and great service! I have now been here 3 times and the food and service were equally great every time thanks to the talented chef, friendly servers and attentive manager, Solomon. I always get the veggie combination which gives a great sampling of their fresh food. That along with another dish will not disappoint. Keep up the great work… I’m now a true fan and regular customer!

I really wanted to like this place. When I arrived the takeout/bar area was essentially empty except for three men holding a conversation at the window. They were neither eating nor drinking. I approached the bar and was greeted by a woman who had completed preparing two beverages to take to the back area where I assume their club is located. Mind you, this was around 4:30pm on a Wednesday. I was handed a menu after I stated that I wanted to use my Groupon for a takeout order, as the bartender walked away. I sat at the bar for close to 20 minutes with not a peep from her. I must make clear the fact that this establishment was basically empty. Based on this, I left only to find the same person in the hallway that leads out. Based on this lack of service, and odd at that, Groupon refunded me for this madness. ETA: I see where another reviewer stated the takeout was awful, and they experienced it twice. What gives?

Jolley’s is honestly one of my favorite hookah bars ever. The flavor of the hookah is always on point, and the staff makes sure to continuously supply the coal. The manager, Solomon, is pleasant, always available, and happy to assist. He knows how to run a successful business. I’ve been coming for a while, but I just tried their food last night, and it was delicious! I’m a strict vegetarian, and I didn’t think that they would have decent vegetarian options, but I’m glad I was wrong! I had the vegetarian combo, and it was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had! Flavorful and filling. They make it a point to clean their hookah very thoroughly, and as a result, you can feel the smoke flowing very smoothly and the flavor last longer than other places.

Alexandria’s best kept secret! The good is on point! They have really great food that’s not overpriced in DC. They have a bar and a lounge with hookah. I will go back. The wait staff was very friendly. Really classy place and not to stuffy. I am *obviously* not Ethiopian but they treated us pretty well. Solomon gave me and my friend a tour of the place. He was very friendly. I have to add that they accidentally charged another’s customers $ 7 bill to my card. They voided it out immediately an came over to explain. Accidents happen. He was very gracious about it and did not try hiding it. That’s an extra point. They have sports and live bands.(I think there is a cover). I plan on going back.

Its been a while i usually go there ! Its my favorite place . In my view its the best place in this area if you wanna go for hangout, breakfast, lunch, dinner & happy hours with your friends & family. they offer very good service. The price are low and acceptable to the compare of other restaurant & lounges. They treat you very friendly & welcomes you in a best way. I always highly recommend this place for the people around here & my friends.

My boyfriend and I came here one night after buying a Groupon for dinner. The restaurant is a little tucked away, but has a nice deck and lounge area. It looks like it becomes quite the place at night. The dining area is by the bar, and we sat at a table near the security system, which beeps every single time the front door is opened and closed. Kind of annoying. However, the owner and server were so nice and patient with us. We ordered two types of beef tibs(which if you aren’t familiar with Ethiopian, they are kind of like fajitas.) They both came out hot on a plate to share with a lot of injera bread. There weren’t a lot of sides to try like some other restaurants, but tasty and filling. It was good, but I’m not sure I’d come back again without the groupon.

So this is the best kept secret! I love Ethiopian food and this is top notch taste! Friendly staff and fast service. It’s easy to miss but once you know where it’s located you will undoubtedly keep coming back(I came for dinner Saturday night and was back for lunch on Sunday). The owner Solomon is very courteous and attentive. We ordered the vegetarian platter and added a beef dish. It was delicious down to the last bite! I really enjoy hot tea and they serve theirs with a cinnamon infused water… Amazing! This establishment is a true gem for casual dining. They’re open late too! They have a full bar and you can even catch the game on TV. Stop reading and get over there! I’m hooked so maybe I’ll catch ya there!

YESPLEASE! This off-the-beaten path joint offers authentic, delicious Ethiopian cuisine at the right price. I went with a group of four and we ordered WAY too much food but loved all of it so much.(one veg platter is enough for two) The service was excellent; there were multiple servers and all of them willing to fulfill our requests and didn’t give us the typical«i’m not your server» answer. The owner even come out to check on us and inquire as to our experience. The wine offerings are plentiful for an Ethiopian place and the happy hour prices on beer/wine were a plus. The food was phenomenal! Why isn’t this place packed??? They served plenty of injira and even brought out more when we asked. Then packed our to-go containers for us and even loaded those up with more injira! The restaurant is only part of the footprint: Jolley’s also has a hookah bar and club-esque area that comes alive on weekends. Parking was plentiful and easy. Can’t wait to go back.

I have to say my husband and I were pleasantly surprised after eating here. We had Ethiopian food at another place close to old town and it was not that great. Being that it had little taste we were not sure what we’d get here. Most reviews are about the venue and I guess the live music. We went during the day for the food. It was completely empty but we were welcomed in and assured the food was authentic. We ordered the vegetable platter, along with the beef tibbs and it was all delicious. Our waitress was quick to bring out more fresh injera when we got low. We will definitely be back!
