I immigrated to the USA 25 years ago and one thing that I really miss from the old commonwealth country are meat pies — all kinds — chicken, steak, lamb, etc. There are various moms who make a few pies at home as a favor to friends but no reliable source of supply. You can imagine my delight when one day I discovered that Whole Foods stock a steady supply of pies by Kiwi Kuisine made by a friendly chef from New Zealand and his staff in his Alexandria, Virginia factory. I was sold and have been a small but regular customer ever since. Last week I had an opportunity to visit the little factory — my son and I gained great insight into the effort and care that goes into making each and every pie. We will continue to enjoy the pies though their outlet at Whole Foods, in our case, Rockville, Maryland.
