A wonderful Library. Very helpful and friendly staff, a good number of public access computers, seating for reading, new facility with great light, good activity rooms open to the public. Access by bus lines and ample parking. There are two activity rooms, the large one has been used for large meetings/video screenings of children’s movies, and the smaller for meetings. Shelving is low for easy access and the facility is fully handy cap accessible.

I hope that someone in charge of our public library here reads and considers this review. As a mother of two small children, i have visited many a public library, and this is by far the most disappointing to say the least. While they have a selection of children’s picture books in the corner, there is a widely felt feeling of unwelcome to parents of small children. Not one puzzle, or educational toy to be found. It’s quite clear too, with only one or two«story times» a month at odd ours(7pm!) or naptimes, it’s clear our children are expected to find another library. Our children should be the primary focus of our library system and we can do better. Take a look at the Duncan branch of the Alexandria library in Del Ray. They are exceptional.

This is one of several branch libraries that is part of the Fairfax County Public Library system. To better accommodate a growing population and expand resources, Martha Washington was remodeled a few years ago. Holdings are selected to appeal to a wide and diverse readership. There is a substantial collection of fiction for adults and children. Computers, with Internet access, are limited at the Martha Washington Library. In order to use this IT equipment, you must have a Fairfax County Public Library card. Be advised that once you acquire a Fairfax County Public Library card, you have immediate access to a fully automated card catalog and many subscription databases via the Internet.
