Pretty disappointing visit… Just spent the evening here because they host a weekly trivia night and it sounded like fun. Trivia was decent and went at a decently fast pace. However, food and service left a lot to be desired. Half price burger(Tuesday special) wasn’t even worth the 3.75 I ended up paying for it. Tried to add bacon and spent 1.50 for a piece of black charcoal. I was hungry so I ate it anyway. Most flavorless mass I’ve ever eaten. Side of cottage fries were unevenly sliced potato rounds that were burnt on one side for some and not fully cooked on others. Any condiments you want on the burger will also cost you more. Service was poor, even before the crowd turned up for trivia. No refill on my drink and I felt like I was an inconvenience for the server. Too many other good and decent options in old town to waste another trip here.

Great people good food. Good atmosphere. And they love the patriots. I’ll keep going back for the brunch and the Patriots!

I have never been insulted as much as I have been at Murphy’s. I have been a patron there since 2001 and have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars there. I have brought numerous new clients to Murphy’s and they trow me out because i bumped a guy with his date girlfriend I mean seriously this is really messed up

Went on a Saturday night and loved the live music! Got everyone involved and lots of fun. Not a place to go if you’re looking to have an intimate conversation since everyone is singing along to the songs :) Very crowded(but expected for a Saturday night). Once we got seated the waitress was nice and had great food and drink suggestions. I got the sliders which were delicious. Will be going back!

Went to Murphy’s for the first time and did not like my experience. The live entertainment was great! However, the service was terrible. It took 10 minutes for a round of drinks. Then it took another 10 minutes for the bartender to tell me they didn’t have the ingredients for the drink I asked for and then another 10 minutes to get a substitute drink. Fail!

We’ve been to Murphy’s a number of times, and every time we go, we love it! We recently had our wedding in the upstairs pub at Murphy’s, and it was FANTASTIC! Murphy’s food was great — their sirloin was perfect, and the salmon is always tender and delicious. Their decorations during the holidays is perfect, and paired with the outdoor holiday lights in Old Town, it really makes for a festive atmosphere! The best part about Murphy’s is the staff and camaraderie — the manager Kenny is so helpful and accommodating, the bar staff are friendly and quick, and even though you don’t know the table next to you at Murphy’s, you wind up at the end of the evening singing Irish pub songs with them! Keep it up, Murphy’s!

Cozy Irish pub with great selection and some Irish favorites. Great fireplace, friendly service, good beer selection. Overall a great place for casual lunch, dinner or a beverage.

Great atmosphere and decorations in this place! Also, our waitress was awesome. For an appetizer we had spinach and artichoke dip(i highly recommend) it was delicious! For our meals i had fish & chips, my boyfriend got shepherd’s pie and my dad got bangers & mash. Everything was great and we all left satisfied and full! We will definitely be returning next time we are in town :)

Fish & chips were great, beer was cold, music was entertaining, and staff were friendly. What more can you ask for?

My family and I decided to break the classic mold and dine at an Irish Pub for our Christmas dinner… Now I’m a fan of all kinds of locations whether they be casual, cutting edge, or contemporary; but lemmie tell you nothing beats an Irish bar which pays homage to not only police officers, fire men, and the military, but does it in such an original and extraordinary way. Let me explain. I’m a Texan the daughter of a man who was a marine and(briefly) a police office before he joined Customs(to stop drug smuggling for a living) and the first police patch I see on the wall, of 100s it seems, is for El Paso, Texas. I’m a Houstonian, but hey close enough right?! Anyways, I felt so at home, and proud. And that’s all before sitting down! And Hooray! The good-will continued! Our waitress was sweet, attractive, and the right amount of attentive. We all choose to partake in the Christmas special. Turkey– white gravy, or ham, or a combination, with green beans, mash potatoes(brown gravy), cranberries, and a dinner roll. Dessert was a choice between pumpkin or sweet potato pie. Everything was so good, and the portions were right. To say the least this Christmas dinner was a steal at 16.99. Also, my Aunt and Uncle ended their first date here and they have been married since ’89 so I think this place may have a magic touch.

This place was a recommendation when I searched for fish and chips. When I first walked in, there was a sign that said«please seat yourself» which wasnt hard. Found a table for 3 really quick. The moment we sat down, someone came over to us and asked us if we would like to start off with a drink. They have a very big selection of beer on draft and also bottles. The drinks came to our table quickly. We looked at the menu and I had asked our server for the fish and chips and if it was possible to get the fried oysters without the sides(since I love fried oysters) and she said that she would double check with a manager and it happened! My husband got the murphys burger and it was cooked to order(he likes medium rare) and my husbands cousin got the french dip sandwich and he said it was good. The fish is great! The cod is definitely awesome with the tarter sauce. Very flakey. The chips are quite dry. They are slices of the actually potatoes and deep fried I assume. I totally recommend their beer battered fish! The environment is very friendly and there was someone playing the guitar that definitely knows how to get the crowd involved! Décor of the place is quite different. They have these ceiling fans with lights, pictures that really give an Irish feel. They also have tvs set up for watching sports. Wooden tables and wooden chairs. Drink glasses are very clean. Condiments are prepared at each and every table. If you want a quiet place for dinner, this is not the place. If you want good food and awesome music performed live and enjoy your time, this is the place. Shout out to our server Elisabeth. She was very friendly. Had great recommendations for food. She always had a smile on her face and very welcoming. You can’t ever go wrong with a great server like that! :)

This is our second trip to Murphys for dinner. I thought this was going to be The usual pub grub fare, BUT, I have been Pleasantly surprised by the quality, flavor, And tenderness of the meals we have had. My filet was really tasty and delicious (The price is a bargain — I have had this meal at other places and paid double the price!). The potatoes are good but not real well Done Irish baked! The veggies were also Ok…Our server, a young lady originally from Florida, Andrea(?), was very friendly, Helpful and knowledgeable. We shall return! Sean Jordan

Awesome food with great prices! The atmosphere is very lively, with plenty of Irish memorabilia and local dedication to the city of Alexandria. One of my favorite things to do is just go in on Sunday’s and enjoy their champagne brunch with eggs Benedict! Also they have live music on weekends, awesome to enjoy a Guinness with some friends!

This place is excellent for a fun night with any group. It’s a welcoming atmosphere with several rooms that can accommodate a group that’s looking for quieter drinks or one that wants to enjoy some love music. I love the community atmosphere of this place and the prices aren’t bad either. Also great people watching from the second story.

Love this place. It is a bar– a good bar with good music. It is all in the company you keep. I may be biased, this is the place my husband asked me to marry him in a moment of horrible decision on his part. Lol Murphy’s is a special place.

Was a favorite in my early 20s but now that I’m in my 30s it’s not as great as before. The bathrooms are tiny as can be. But the food is good, unfortunately it seems like it’s turning into a dive bar now. Nothings changed since I used to come here and doesn’t seem like they will change either. Love music is still an entertainment and unless you’re there to stand/sit at the bar and get drunk, then this is the place.

I put off writing this review for a while because I wasn’t sure how to write it. Then I realized the reason for that: Murphy’s suffers from a lack of consistency. Not to say that I don’t like the place. I enjoy going there very much and have made very fond memories there. But let me highlight why I feel my experience so far has been inconsistent(which can end up being frustrating). Inconsistency #1: I’ve been several times for Tuesday night half price burgers($ 3.50) & bar trivia. The burgers have ranged from subpar and flavorless to relatively good, depending on the week. The fries themselves are variable in quality, and depending on the day are served in normal fry form or as potato slices(sometimes cut ridiculously thick, sometimes not). Sometimes I’m offered free ranch for my fries, other times they charge me 0.50 cents for it. #2: The trivia itself ranges in quality — the delivery, not the questions. Sometimes they take forever to go through the rounds and other times they breeze by. Sometimes they announce the winners before giving all the answers(annoying), other times they don’t. Sometimes they’re really strict about team sizes, and other times… You get the picture. #3: The service ranges from excellent to inattentive depending on the server. But that’s normal, I suppose… #4: Sunday brunch was fantastic. A free glass of champagne at the start and $ 1 refills. I got the Eggs Benedict. It was delicious, but on one half the egg was very overcooked. The other half was cooked to perfection. Overall, I enjoy going to Murphy’s and will continue to go. The one thing that’s consistent is I always have a good time.

I’ve only been here twice but both times have been casual, laid back, and pretty cool! My first time was when I was newly 21 a while back and a live band was playing– that was awesome. This past time was a after an afternoon of wine and walking around on a lovely Sunday; we stopped in to have a beer and some onion rings. It was pretty crowded so we were seated at an awkward table pushed up against the fireplace back towards the bathrooms. All we had was one order of onion rings which were pretty good and one beer each. Nice in and out stop before heading to embarrass ourselves at karaōke. We will definitely be back to try the full menu items.

Visited this place July 262015. Our server was great and he was attentive and took care of our requests. This review just covers the food. The food was meh at best. Ordered the egg rolls… they were bland. Some chicken wings… nothing different. Seemed a bit extra dry. Had a salad… get one of those weird half cups of dressing. Order of nachos… they were fine… nothing to wow me. Last was the free apple crisp with a check in. It was a bit off putting by sight. Tasted fine and really sweet. Beer is beer. Then they get some guy yelling in a mike on a sunday night and you can’t hear the person sitting in front of you. I so then the place just gets louder from people yelling. :/

Fun times! This place is always packed. The first time we tried to come here there was absolutely no room! We popped in after a day on the river — cover ups and all. Murphy’s is casual, so we didn’t stick out too much. It was close to 11:00 p.m. and the place was packed… and still serving food I might add. Upstairs there was live music. The singer even got the crowd involved in several songs. We were singing and clapping for a while. We were still able to chat a little during the breaks in the show. If you’re in need of a late night snack this is a good place to go… lots of options on their late night menu. We ordered several appetizers. I wouldn’t go for the cheese fries again, it’s literally just plain cheese melted on fries. The spinach artichoke dip was great! It even comes in a bread bowl, which we devoured. Their mozzarella sticks are what you’d expect in a bar. I’m excited for my next experience at Murphy’s the next time we are out this way!
