I am very upset with the service I received at My Eye Dr on Duke St, Alexandria. My husband and I were glasses shopping at this store and we did not see any frames that we like, so we asked them if we can buy frames from other place and have them put on the lenses. They said that they can do it with no problem. So my husband and I went to NY, which is a 4 hour drive, to buy two frames (one for me and one for my husband). After we gave them to the employees at this store, my husband asked them again if they can do it, and again, they said no problem. One week later, they called us to pick it up. They put on the lenses for my husband, but they ruined my frame. When my husband talked to the manager, he said that the frame shrunk when they heated up, and he said that it is normal. However, for the two times that we asked them, they never brought up this risk. My husband was not happy with the customer service experience because when my husband talked to the manager, the manager did not even look at him. At first the manager said that they can’t refund anything to us and they can only give us one of the frame they have in store (which we didn’t like in the first place). I went to talk to the manager and he told me the same thing at first, but when I got upset, he agreed to only refund the cost of the frame but not the $ 20 tax that we paid. He gave us the uncut lenses and refuse to refund us for the other 200 some dollar we paid for my lenses. My husband went to other stores to see if they can help us cut the lenses, but that gentleman told us that we can’t get them cut anywhere and what My eye dr did to my frame was not normal and it was overheated. The manager told me that the material for has problem and it was the quality of the frame that caused the problem. I called my the frame store and they said that this never happened before. So they lied to us and won’t give us our money back.

Friendly and professional, but the equipment was constantly breaking down. My one day eyeglass lens took 7 days and upon calling the day after they were scheduled to be ready, I was told my glasses would not be ready until the following week. After thinking about it, I decided to go in to request a refund and return of my frames. I was then told they would have my glasses ready in 15 minutes, which clearly was the result of me wanting a refund.

I’d give them 5 stars if their eye wear wasn’t so expensive. My husband and I have been going to this location for 5 years now and are overall very pleased with our experiences. The location and times (they’re open on Sundays even) are convenient, front desk staff is friendly, and the doctors we’ve seen have all been professional and personable. They are thorough in examining our eyes and in their explanations. I feel very comfortable at their office. The only downside is the cost of frames and lenses. I made the mistake of getting glasses there at my first visit — I have a strong prescription and paid over $ 500 out of pocket after insurance. I’ve since learned my lesson and go to BJ’s now to get my glasses for less than half of that cost.

This place actually made glasses for me with the wrong prescription. I wear no correction in my left eye, a fact that the doctor and I discussed, as it is not correctable. I had a lazy eye as a child. Rather than putting a clear lens as discussed, they gave me the same prescription as my right eye. I didn’t realize this for 3 weeks because my right eye is so dominant. I only realized it when I ordered RX sunglasses, my husband put them on for fun and asked me why the left eye was so whacky. I thought the sunglass company had made a mistake but it turned out that the incompetent «Doctor» at My Eye Dr wrote this prescription for both. I have an appointment with a neurologist because I have had horrible vertigo that I now know was caused by the glasses. The worst part? The manager at My Eye Dr did not seem to care, promised that he would e-​mail me a Rx that day and never did. These people are honestly the worst.

Went there when I had an eye infection, they helped me and I came back for a checkup and an eye exam for contacts. Their credit card system was down so they called me later for payment. When I ran out of contacts I called 6 times for my prescription, they kept promising to send me the papers to release my prescription and they never sent it. Finally they sent it and waited two days for them to email it to me. I just received a call from one of them saying I wasn’t charged correctly and that my eye exam wasnt in thr system but they will send it to me if I pay 120 dollars. He was rude and abrasive on the phone. Not letting me speak and kept interrupting me. This facility is horrible. Do not go there, they are extorting people and wasted a lot of my time for nothing. Disrespectful for a mistake that they made.

I went into this shop to have a lens removed from a pair of glasses I already own because I just had Lasik surgery on my left eye. The lady at the desk went to the back to ask someone else if this could be done. She comes out and tells me I need a prescription to have the lens turned into a non-​prescription lens. I said I’m not getting a new prescription until my eye heals which could take up to 2 months per the people at TLC. She said they couldn’t do it. I said you can’t or you won’t and walked out.
I went outside made a call to another MyEyeDr and asked do I need a prescription to have a lens turned into a non prescription lens? Guess what the answer was, NO you don’t need one and we can turn your prescription lens into a non-​prescription lens. She said it will cost you $ 40 because we have to trace the lens for your frames. That simple. I said thank and I’m on my way to your store. I will have my glasses back by the end of the week.
The lady and whomever told her I can’t have it done, y’all boneheads. If one store can do it, why couldn’t you?

Pushy and aggressive sales manager… Will be calling/​emailing Corporate Office and Regional Sales Director. Unethical sales tactic… they put a hold on my vision insurance benefits since I am planning to go to another store to buy my glasses after my eye exam. I can’t buy glasses unless I go thru them
The store manager is part of the problem even thought he is responding to Unilocal complaints as if he is addressing issues.

Zero Stars! Beware of inaccurate Pupillary Distance (PD) readings! The optical exam is fine, but there is a hesitancy to provide a written prescription and even greater resistance to providing the PD reading necessary to purchase from a much, much cheaper on-​line eyeglass source, such as Zenni Optical (which I very highly recommend). Hubs was given one set of PD readings. After placing an order with Zenni, I received an email stating that there are two PD Measurements, one for Distance and one for Reading (Normally, the reading PD is 3 mm less than the distance PD), and a request that we check with our Optometrist. We went back to MyEyeDr to ask for the second set of readings. One by one, through a total of three employees, were were told, «There is only one PD reading». After showing the Zenni email to the last employee, and asking to speak with the Optometrist, another employee helped us and stated that there are, in fact, two PD readings. The one PD reading that they had previously provided was for distance, and not reading. Since most people need glasses for reading, it seems strange to me that they would have provided the distance measurements as the «only» measurement. Oh, that’s right… they also made us sign an «Internet Purchase Waiver» that MyEyeDr assumes no liability for anything other than the prescription given. Of course, if you encounter difficulties with products purchased form the internet, MyEyeDr is happy to evaluate your eyesore for a base fee of $ 35.00! Hubs likes the convenience of this location, but I’ll never go back. If you do go, and you get PD readings, I highly recommend you verify the measurements with a less «used car salesmen-​esk» optical shop. In fact, I plan to go to Costo next.

I’m new in town and was very happy to have found these guys! Great selection and very helpful staff. The offices were clean and well kept.

Very unprofessional business to say the least. Would NOT recommend going to this place. They are difficult to deal with and are costly.

It should never take 17 days to get contacts delivered. Their staff apart from their awesome doctors are the absolute worse. I only keep coming here because of the doctors.

The optometrist was fine, but the sales staff is on par with used car sales or gym memberships. I was glad to have done my homework ahead of time, because they tried to overcharge me by about $ 100. It was ridiculous. i pointed this out to the salesperson, he looked back at his screen, and then gave me the corrected price.
The optometrist might be fine, but never, never purchase anything here. Never.

Went in for an annual eye exam on 5÷26÷15. After completing paperwork, an associate brought me to the screening room and asked if I was there for contacts or glasses. I told her that I wanted an eye exam and both prescriptions. She proceeded to tell me that I could not get both, that I had to choose one or the other based on my insurance. I told her again, that that has never been my experience at any vision center, where I could not get both prescriptions. She was adamant that I could only get one or the other. She went to ask a ‘technician’ and returned again saying that I could only get one or the other.
I told her that I would cancel my appointment for the day, call my insurance company, and follow up, because that had not been my experience at Vision Works the year prior with the same insurance. She proceeded to «explain» to me that Vision Works made a mistake and billed my insurance company incorrectly. She went back to the front to check with a technician about my coverage and as I was about to leave, she said, «I just double checked and your insurance will cover glasses or contacts but not both.»
I explained to her (again), that I am not looking to buy any products so it doesn’t matter to me what product the insurance covers, I just want my new glasses and contact prescription. Finally, she seemed to «get it» and said, oh ok!
Visit with the eye doctor went well. She was very pleasant and thorough.
After the visit, I was checking out with a different associate than the one prior. The new associate told me that if I wanted to purchase contacts, the insurance would cover the majority of the cost. I went ahead with the purchase. Here comes the first associate, saying «I see you decided to go with contacts instead of glasses. I told you the insurance would cover one or the other.»
After already explaining to her 3 times and for 15 minutes that I ONLY came in for both glasses AND contacts PRESCRIPTIONS, I didn’t have the energy to say, once again, that I never was asking or intending to have my insurance cover any products today. I politely said, «thank you for your help» and she went on her way.
Nonetheless, I will ONLY be returning to pick up these contacts that I ordered, and not for an eye exam. An associate who is unclear about the difference between a prescription and product, probably should be trained again before insisting that insurance doesn’t cover something. On top of simply not listening when a customer has said 3 times what the reason for the visit is.
I give this location 2 stars instead of 1 because the actual eye doctor was wonderful. The 2^nd associate was very helpful as well. But it wasn’t worth that silly exchange when I could go to any local vision center next time.

I’ve gone here twice now (2 annual appointments) and have felt totally pressured to buy very expensive glasses that I’m sure sure i really need. I think the doctors are great but everyone there, including the doctors, must be working on commission. I have felt totally violated and ripped off each time I go here. I also just found out they they were dropped by my blue cross federal insurance so that’s part of why it is so expensive. This last time I asked for a refund before the order processed and they did give it to me. I will be taking my business somewhere else.

I will never go back to this place again, the experience I had is not good. The doctor was great; the staff wasn’t that helpful. The prices were the worst!
Everything they had was overpriced by two to three times what I could have paid from a reputable retailer online. After seeing the prices and deciding to look elsewhere for a pair of prescription sunglasses, I asked for my prescription after my eye exam. I had to ask three times before they gave it to me. The last place I went to gave me my prescription without even having to ask.
The price I paid after insurance for my frames was still way more expensive than what I could have paid elsewhere.
My recommendation if you’re looking for a pair of glasses?
Go somewhere else.

I’m not sure what all of the bad reviews are about. I had my first visit to the office today and they were great. They got me in early, Dr Nguyen was prompt and explained everything well. I have been seeing an eye doctor for 30 years, so I know what to expect and this was great.
The frames are way too high priced though and I will be taking my prescription elsewhere for that, but all of the staff was helpful and nice. I will be back.

The doctor is nice and seems pretty knowledgeable, and they were able to get me in on really, really short notice when I ripped my last set of contacts. 2 stars.
That said, holy sales pressure. I completed the eye exam and contact lens exam and was refused a copy of my prescription. WTF. I paid around $ 150 for all exams and am obviously entitled to the prescription – as that is the result of my exam.
I intend to return to pick up the trial pair of contacts that are now in stock – but if they withhold my prescription again I’m going to have to take further action.
This is the only doctor I’ve EVER had this happen with – most hand you the info immediately at the end of the appointment and then you deal with ordering your lenses and/​or picking out frames. I was so entirely sketched out by the fact that they refused to give me the info, which was clearly readily available, that I did some research about what I’m entitled to, etc. While I only wanted a copy for my records, it turns out that they withhold it in order to try to force customers to purchase contacts/​glasses from them. The reality is you’re entitled to your RX and are able to order contacts/​glasses absolutely anywhere you choose.
I fully expected to order contacts and purchase glasses from this store, but due to their unprofessional and inconvenient sales tactics I have now priced out everything I need from other retailers. Being open & honest is obviously the way to earn business, and I hope this is the lesson: that they’ll lose out when they practice scare tactics and withhold patient info that the patient is fully entitled to receive. This is no way to run a business. My opinion of the doctor’s professionalism and knowledge was greatly diminished when everyone became a used-​car salesman at the end of the transaction.
No star for providing necessary paperwork to clients, no star for contact ordering/​prices, no star for glasses ordering/​prices. (Turns out their prices for the same items are above other retailers. Do your due diligence.)

Update: after deciding to order my contacts elsewhere instead of pay the inflated rates that My Eye Dr is charging, I went to a reputable online website to place my order. When the online company called My Eye Dr to confirm my prescription, My Eye Dr said they had no record of me or my prescription. Shady. (Note: I double checked to make sure I listed to correct address and phone number) This downgrades my total experience here from 2 stars to 1.

Not a typical «strip mall» pphthalmologist. Doctor was amazing — explained every process and in great deal. And not in the annoying way either.
Entire staff is wonderful. Very helpful and will go out of their way to help you. Each time I have visited they have been extremely busy yet you would not know it as they make you feel as you are currently their only client.

Dr. Nguyen is literally (pronouncing it like Chris Treager on Parks and Rec would) the best optometrist I have ever been to. Due to having to see an optometrist every year for the last 20 years of my life for contacts lens scripts, I’ve seen many. I can’t imagine the range of the type of patients one would come across as an optometrist at these chain providers like My Eye Dr, but Dr. Nguyen is friendly and professional and goes the extra mile. She had read my history from last year and asked about the issue I’d been having and offered advice on eye drops to use.
Also the staff at this location is really friendly. They also sent a text to let me know when my lenses were ready for pick-​up. Very convenient.
