PIES Fitness Yoga Studio

I moved to the west coast 2 years ago. I went to PIEs a total of one time before I moved. The class was fine. But since then I have been mercilessly spammed by these people. I’ve asked to be taken off their lists between 5 and 6 times. HOW HARD COULD THIS POSSIBLY BE? Don’t give them your email. They will abuse it, and act oblivious when you tell them to stop.

I joined the free monthly class. JB from Colorado was the guest teacher. I really liked his style, and his instructions were clear and easy to follow. I’m a novice, so the class was challenging, and JD offered modifications to make it easier or harder, depending on everybody’s needs.

I’m so glad boot camp with Donovan is now offered 2 times per week! This class is the best value for your time and money — awesome strength and aerobic workout on a completely padded floor which is easier on my joints! Do not eat atleast an hour and a half before this class and go easy your first time as the workout is intense. With a package of sessions I’ve also taken some of the yoga classes which are all varied and interesting. The new yoga studio is very nice and relaxing. I’m not one to stick with the same place, but have been going here for over a year as it is convenient, has a good variety of sessions and is reasonable priced. You need to give it a try!

I have only tried zumba here, but if it’s any indication, PIES is a Great place for a good workout! Instructors are super fun and welcoming. I have been to three classes so far and the number of people has been less than twenty, so I’ve been able to get a good spot on the floor to be able to see the instructor. Even though I am more of a beginner, I was able to keep up with the routines and the atmosphere is one that allows for the less-​than-​coordinated (like myself) to still get a heart-​pumping workout without feeling self conscious.

My friend and I recently purchased a Living Social special in hopes of finding a new yoga studio. Due to inclement weather, we were unable to attend a session, and asked the owner of the facility if she could extend our special for one additional week so we could complete our 5^th session She downright refused, and offered no other advice. It’s very disappointing a business owner would willingly do nothing to earn the business of not just one, but two new customers. It’s a shame too, because the classes we attended, we enjoyed. The proprietor obviously does not care.

There’s something for everyone! PIES fitness studio offers a variety of classes for all fitness levels. There are two to three instructors for yoga and Zumba so you can try each class with a different instructor to decide what you like. I take the bootcamp and yoga classes at PIES. Bootcamp is high intensity and will definitely get the blood flowing! This class is taught on Saturday at 12p and on Sunday at 4:15p. For yoga, PIES offers beginner to advanced classes for every level.

Terrible. First it is hard to get anyone to email you back. When I told them I wasn’t going to be able to make it in and would like my $ refunded they told me just to come in and try it. So I finally made time and went in on their free day. It was bad. It was at least 15 degrees hotter than it should have been (no, it wasn’t a meant-​to-​be-​hot class) so people were sweating while slipping on their mats looking irritated, and the same song played over and over again, something that sounded like an alien attack… The instructor was good, which is the only reason this got 2 stars. So I emailed them back and told her I didn’t like my experience, that I preferred to get my money back that I had paid for some classes. What do they say? Try another class. I said no, so they wanted me to call. Email is easy for me, I have time to do that, I don’t always have the time to call. Couldn’t you just do this via email? Why are they making it so difficult?

This studio is great! I found PIES Fitness through Groupon and was excited to stop by because they offer a real range of classes: Zumba, a variety of yoga classes, kickboxing, boot camp, and belly dancing.
I’ve taken three yoga classes and three kickboxing classes and I’m hooked! It’s a very inclusive studio and not intimidating at all. Most of the yoga classes start out with people introducing themselves and what brought them to class that day and in the classes I’ve taken, there’s a nice range of people new to yoga and long time yoginis. Marsha is a really wonderful instructor, as other Unilocalers have noted, she does her best to show each person what they’re really capable of. I am new to studio classes but I’ve dabbled in YouTube and DVDs and I was surprised at how she was able to help me contort myself in to poses that I previously thought were too difficult for me.
Kickboxing is challenging and you WILL sweat and you WILL feel out of shape, but it’s another class that sounds intimidating, but is inclusive and not at all scary. In the three classes I’ve taken, there’s also been a range of fitness and experience levels. I feel totally comfortable modifying the movements when I need to or to stop and grab some water.
No matter which class I take, I always feel like I’ve done something great for my body and that I’ve gotten my money’s worth from the class.

I’ve been going to PIES for Zumba classes for the past two years. I love it there. I had taken a couple of Zumba classes, before coming here, but the you cannot beat the $ 5 price for each class – so when I wanted to lose the weight from my first baby I figured I’d give it a shot. One class and I was hooked.
Their main Zumba instructor, Krishna, brings fabulous energy and a wealth of knowledge to her teaching. Best of all though, PIES, has a tremendous feeling of community – I’ve taken aerobics classes for more than a decade, but this is the first place where I’ve actually had a teacher who knows my name and worked out with people who openly route each other on.
Parking is easy and you can’t beat the class price or the teachers.

Let me preface by saying that I happen to like a very vigorous Ashtanga practice that is a little hard to find and a pain to get to (see: Down Dog or Dancing Mind).
That said, I do enjoy dropping in at PIES from time to time because it is really one of the most supportive and welcoming yoga studios I have been to. I have never been one of the «cool kids» who fit in at yoga classes, and have felt embarrassed trying poses that extend myself. «Oh, here: look at this clumsy ox trying to get into Bird of Paradise, ha ha ha,» I imagine everyone thinking.
If you’re taking a class with the owner, she will often have everyone try something new and cheer you on and assist, and you just feel like part of the gang, even if you aren’t a regular. But don’t worry: it’s not a hippie dippy, welcome to the commune, here’s your Kool-​Aid kind of place.
You’ll generally have plenty of time to practice that pose you’ve been trying to achieve, whereas at many places you’ll get a minimal amount of time in class to work on your crow or headstand (true story: I never was able to get into full wheel when I first began practicing until I got… tipsy…and did a «hey, watch this!» Drinking your way into poses isn’t likely the safest way to get there). You may find that the pace is a little slow, depending on your preferences.
Also, there’s plenty of parking, which is a great, rare thing for a yoga studio inside the Beltway.

I started taking classes here about 2 or 3 years ago, lured in by the Free Sundays and $ 5 Community Class. Kristen teaches the 10am Sunday class, and she is hands down the best yoga instructor I have ever practiced with. Her Sunday classes were challenging but fun — she is always willing to cue a new enhancement, and her sequencing is really creative.
I’ve taken a smattering of other classes with other teachers, and all of them have been good! I haven’t taken any of the kickboxing/​belly dance/​bootcamp classes, but I’m hoping to try some of them this year!

Went to free first Sunday yoga. Very small place but great energy! The instructor was good, the owner was at the front greeting people. I will go back.

Honestly, I resisted my wife’s nagging to try yoga for about ten years of our marriage. I thought it is for the girly girl types, and not for army guys like myself. I finally surrendered to my wife, and decided to give yoga a try. PIES Fitness Yoga Studio is the very first such institution that we had ever tried, and it will be the last one, as long as we live in NOVA. We don’t need to keep looking. It definitely was a love at first sight. We love the location, we love the way the studio is set up, and we deeply fell in love with our instructor, Kristen.
And no, I no longer think that yoga is for little girls. My first session was tough enough to satisfy a combat veteran in me, yet gentle enough on my nearly forty-​year– old body to feel great after the first ever yoga workout.

Free yoga is offered on the first Sundays of every month — who can pass that up?! Don’t forget to RSVP through their website. I’m a beginner yoga-​er myself, and the class accommodated all levels — I came out feeling refreshed and energetic.

Another yoga studio that I tried out. It was pretty decent. I came here only for the yoga 3 times, and never made it to kickboxing :-(I wish I had. I will likely come back to try it though.
Pros:
— Easy to get to (right off 395)
— Plenty of parking (in a shopping center)
— I learned a couple new poses. A couple of the classes were dynamic
— Not TOO many people on weekend mornings (except I heard on Free first Sundays). Once it was the instructor and 2 of us, which was almost a personal class, which was nice.
— I think single courses and pricing is very reasonable.
— Instructors are lenient so you don’t get excluded if you are more than 5 minutes late
— Instructors and staff are all very friendly, welcoming, encouraging and helpful.
Cons:
— Only 1 room, and it’s separated from the outdoors by a thick curtain. Hot yoga wasn’t very hot in my opinion because of this
— The music that they played in the background wasn’t as soothing /​yoga-​friendly as I am used to… I noticed this a couple of classes
— The instructors are hit or miss… I think there are a lot of stand-​ins– of the 3 times I came here, 2 of them were subs
— gets stuffy when maximum capacity is reached
— Only one employee works there at a time I think – so the person checking you in is the instructor – could be inconvenient if you are late, or if they are still checking late-​comers in.
Interesting: they provide suit ties as yoga straps. Creative!

This is place is absolutely EXCELLENT! The added bonus is that it is at a running distance from my house.
I discovered this place, on line, just about 4 weeks ago. My first class was Zumba and I was pleasantly surprised. I have been taking zumba classes for the past 2 years, in Chantilly VA, and quite frankly the Zumba classes at PIES awakened muscles in body that I didn’t even know existed.
This week I decided to try the kickboxing class and once again I was pleasantly surprised and plan on making that a part of my weekly routine.
Yesterday after a class I was talking with one of the yoga instructor, I had given up on yoga. She gently suggested that I gave it another try before writing it off completely. So I went this morning… without sounding cheesy, I loved it! By the way I didn’t know she would be the instructor this morning!
This place is simply amazing and the staff is very nice too. PIES has become my official yoga/​zumba/​kickboxing studio.

This review is just for the Friday evening hot yoga class with Sinnhu. I found it because of some online deal and would have continued going had my hours not changed.
There is only one room in this studio, but its huge. They keep it at a good temperature. The floor is padded, which drastically changed the comfort level. One other great bonus is the cooling aromatherapy towels they place on our foreheads at the end of class (you can opt out). Instead of leaving feeling like my sweat is drying and looking salty on the way home, I feel refreshed.
Sinnhu has a great attitude and approach to yoga that is a good workout and a focused practice, without taking ourselves too seriously. I think intense yogis may find some elements of her class too relaxed, but its great for the general population. Coming in on Friday evening means the class is less full.
I would love to try some other classes here or, better yet, just have this one hot yoga class every day.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (after one visit)
I went to a Sunday morning class which was only 5 bucks (yay!) and the style was vinyasa flow. The instructor was friendly and not at all intimidating. There were several poses that I just couldn’t do, no way no how, so I just did my own thing at those points and it was fine.
The instructor was very welcoming and showed me where the bathrooms were, the cubbies, the blocks, etc. I know that doesn’t seem worth mentioning but I’ve been to other studios where you’re just sort of left to figure these things out for yourself and you feel kind of lost.
My one complaint — and yogis probably wouldn’t say this is a bad thing — is that the studio was HOT! And this was not a hot yoga class. The heat was cranked way above what I consider a comfortable level. I was sweating before the first pose.

Every time I’ve gone I’ve seen instructors, three different ones, working before and after class to help students with specific problems. They’re very generous with their time and they want to help. On the heat issue I mentioned … I went back for another Sunday yoga class and it was warm but not as bad as last week. I think a lot of people like warm rooms for yoga; I’m just not one of them.
Tonight I went to my first Zumba class at PIES and I’m very glad to say that the room was not too hot. The instructor, Penney, was energetic and welcoming and fun! This was a good class for me because I haven’t done Zumba in almost a year. The steps weren’t as challenging as what I’m used to from other studios so this would be a very good class for someone starting out. It’s also a good class for me for right now but I may need something a little more challenging after a while. Happy with it for now, though.

Wonderful studio. I like it even better now that I have gotten to know some of the other students. My favorite classes are «My Body Don’t Bend That Way» and «Mellow Yoga» (a bargain at 5 bucks!). I’ve also been trying «Half & Half» (boot camp and yoga). The boot camp part is a real challenge for me and not what I call fun at all (though the instructor is very good) — but my reward for getting through it is a grounding half-​hour yoga session.

Wow! I can’t believe that I have been almost consistently attending belly dance here since September. I need to try yoga next. PIES has moved to a larger location, but I kind of liked the other place, more intimate. But expansion means growth and growth means your doing *something* right!

My normal dose of morning coffee did not wake me up today, but the hip shaking Zumba class at PIES certainly did! The owner Marsha greeted my friend and I with a down home friendly kindness that immediately put us as ease, since it was our both of our first class. My hips don’t shake like Shakira’s, but the workout was fun and helped me find a long forgotten shimmy.
