Spectrum Beauty Academy

I went to Spectrum for a simple trim. I had been there before a couple times about a year ago and was usually satisfied. My stylist was really nice but had no supervision so she went free willy nilly on my head. I asked for a ½ inch off. She gave me a full out haircut. I’m missing 2 – 3 inches of hair. I had layers in my hair. Now I have an even bob. I couldn’t see what she was doing. Then I didn’t want her to style my hair so I left there with my hair in a bun. When I got home I realized she cut off my hair! I can’t get it back so lesson learned. I will never visit this place again. You get what you pay for.

You get what you pay for! No this place is no Aveda or Paul Mitchell and yes they are students working on your hair. I go here in between my regular salon visits for a wash and blow out. I have not seen a teacher supervising students work, I also wouldn’t go here for anything major such as color or cut. I am pleased with the few times I have been here!

I had made an appointment to use a gift certificate I had won (facial, manicure and pedicure) and also booked a massage and blow out (I thought why not, since I’m already there). After arriving at Spectrum (this place doesn’t inspire much confidence or comfort) I was told to sign a sheet and was ignored for 15 minutes. I talked to someone else (wasn’t sure who the receptionist was) and they couldn’t find my appointment. I was ignored again and was summoned with a «hey» to come back to the front desk. When I listed off the services I wanted I was told that the massage beds and the facial salon was booked. I was also told that they closed at 2:00pm so I wouldn’t be able to get all the services done (I wish they had told me when I made the appointment).
I got sat at three different chairs and finally got a blowout. They did a pretty good job so I started to relax. After this, a student took an hour and a half giving me the weakest pedicure I have ever received and proceeded to paint my nails left to right. I asked her to please remove the polish (my 4 year old niece has literally done a better job at painting my toenails) and that I was sorry but I was going to leave. The student literally poured nail polish remover on my toes before putting a cotton ball on my nails. The cotton stuck to my toes. A supervisor (I think) had to instruct the student to pour polish on the cotton ball before taking them to my toes for polish removal. I did not get anything else done.
I know that this is a school, but the lack of professionalism and communication was appalling. I am embarrassed to even tell you the topics of conversations the students were engaging in while I was there.

Visited on ⁶⁄₂₆ to get the roller set (beautician out of town). Out of the way, no indication the school is at the address on the internet. Once the young lady doing my hair started, I knew I would be upset if allowed her to continue…(she didn’t ask any questions, didn’t use enough product; even though I brought my own) told her it was ok… and ended up wrapping my own hair. This happened in plain sight. The young lady was very professional and polite even though the situation was uncomfortable. She still offered a magazine and a drink. My problem is with the supposed instructor… no doubt she knew because the other girls seemed to be amused. despite the fact that none of them offered to help the young lady or bring the instructor over. Not only that, she is supposed to watch over the young ladies while they do hair. When my hair was dry, I had a nice chat with the young lady, told her she was very professional and gave her the money for the shampoo. Despite not saying a word to me the entire time I was there or offering any type of customer service/​resolution… the lady at the front desk had the nerve to yell out «hey» as I left out thinking I had not paid for the service I didn’t even get in the first place. If the instructors attitude is any indication-​the young lady was struggling because she studied at Spectrum. I hope she takes me up on the place I suggested she call if she wanted the opportunity to see/​possibly train where they do a high volume and offer great customer service.
