Inappropriate, awkward and insensitive. I’m a mature woman in my 50’s and have been seeing Dr. Dwyer for 5 years but am looking for a new doctor. He may be medically competent but his bedside manner is offensive. For example when I asked him about how osteoporosis is manifested in the body, he actually used a Pac Man story to demonstrate, using with one hand as the calcium and the other as the Pac Man gobbling up the calcium. Most recently when I told him of my ovarian cancer symptoms which included breast swelling, he remarked how ironic it was that a characteristic that would make you think of a «hot young woman»(despite my age I am still attractive) would actually be a serious disease. Really? This man is insensitive and socially retarded.

This appointment was for my teenage daughter and we were referred by Dr Byrne from the same Institute. We’ve been searching for 4 years on her medical journey and moved to this area a little over a year ago. My first impression was that he was very intelligent and very compassionate in how he evaluated my daughter. He took extra time which is rare these days and actually explained every question that we both had. I won’t go in to her medical diagnoses for privacy but I can say he didn’t just throw pills at us and walk us out the door. I left feeling satisfied and with a medical plan in place for her. I’m very grateful for his services.

This is one of the WORST doctors I have ever seen in my life. He insulted me and made inappropriate remarks during our entire visit. He continuously walked in and out of the room during our appointment and then at one point refused to answer anymore questions. When I tried to ask him more questions he put up his hand and signaled that he wasn’t answering anymore questions because he felt there was nothing wrong with me. This is literally the rudest thing I’ve had happen to me at a doctor’s office. It’s insulting that he will happily take my insurance money, but then provide rude and below average service. He needs some courses in improving his bedside manner. I will not be returning!

Dr. Dwyer is one of the finest Rheumatologists available in the DC area. As a former Navy physician, he is not burdened with the practices most Rheumatologists have where they hand out pills for four hours a day and schedule a follow-up and play gold all of the time. He is passionate about his patients. He always seeks innovative ways to help solve their challenges. He looks for new forms of care. He is open to learning from his patients as much as he teaches his patients how to deal with their diseases. You will not find better.
