A few years ago I started collecting vintage cameras. When my husband and I travel, we like to try to pop into an antique shop and grab a camera. Upon walking on the street we saw this place and didn’t know what the inside would hold. Very long, narrow and deep store with loads of display cases and a lot of jewelry. Not too much stuff that we would actually want to buy but we were happy to stumble upon their camera collection. A lot of 1990s ones but we were able to pick out one that was much older. Of course, that raises The price but if you paid with cash or check they were doing 20% off. Sold.

The cluttered windows on the street do not even begin to scratch the surface of what this place holds. The store is in a narrow, but deep building, and seems to go on for ever, with case after case of jewelry, porcelain figurines, and other strange curios. There’s a stand full of canes in the back, and a little pile of old, brightly colored rotary phones on the floor in a corner. There is a case of old lighters, and another full of old tin soldiers. It smells like my great grandmother’s house used to smell, and it is dim. There are some nice things and there is some junk, but I just like walking around. It is nothing like the more polished stores on King St. Some of the junk(costume jewelry and such) is ludicrously over priced($ 20+ for plastic beads). But the real jewelry seems like it could be reasonable, especially if you can bargain the price down like another Unilocaler suggested, but I haven’t tried. As to the canes and the tin soldiers, I’m not really sure what the going rate is, but I’m mostly just enjoying looking around.

This is your typical, over-stocked antique store, with glass shelves over-flowing with porcelains, jewelry, and knick-knacks. Personally, I prefer a well-curated store with great pieces, rather than sifting through this much clutter, but there are people who enjoy the hunt. I really didn’t get a great vibe from the clerk at all — she was an older woman who alternated between ignoring me completely or eyeing me suspiciously the entire time I was in the store(and I’m not a particularly suspicious-looking person). The experience was thoroughly under-whelming.

Bought a pearl necklace. salesman stated it was just restrung, got it home and it broke, had to spend almost two hundred dollars to have it restrung. Called Store they never returned my call. Another issue regarding a purchased item, owner claimed it was not his problem it was the vendor who sold it to hime therefore he was not responsible ANDWOULDNOTREFUNDMYMONEY??? A good place for picking up antique jewelry but pay close attention to prices(the expensive rent for being in Old Town Alexandria is reflected in the merchandise prices). Good selection but no deals.

I could have literally spent hours sifting through all of the vintage jewelry at this wonderland of a store. Jewelry, silverware, figurines, cocktail shakers, tabletop accessories and more are all represented. For those who don’t find joy in rummaging through a cluttered, unmerchandised, space, this place isn’t for you. I relish in finding treasures this way because the hunt is half the fun. Each case is individually dealer owned. Everything is locked, so it can appear to be a hassle to find the shopkeeper and ask him/her to unlock each case, but they were really nice about letting me «wear test» both of the necklaces that I ultimately ended up purchasing. Bargaining can be done even though the actual dealers aren’t present. In my case, the shopkeeper rang up the dealer and presto, I was the owner of a lovely deco necklace. All to the tune of 20% off the stated price.

I stumbled upon this little store while walking around Old Town Alexandria with my girlfriend. I think I was trying to find a gift for my mother and just wanted some ideas. To this day, I haven’t purchased anything from Trojan but I’ve been in there three times because I really like looking at what they have. Upon entering the establishment, I noticed the smell was very similar to my grandparents’ house, which isn’t a bad thing, just very distinct. It’s a small store, tightly packed with a full range of… well…stuff. Jewelry, collectible currency, toys, and the list goes on. I enjoy looking at their currency and jewelry, the latter even consists of David Yurman, Tiffany and Co, and other well-known high-end brands. Apparently, they have a gold dealer who comes in once a week to offer what he sells but I haven’t been in on one of those days. Overall, it’s a nice little spot if you like antique shops.
