I blame myself for not checking Unilocal before I walked into this place. It’s pretty hilarious that everyone has had the same exact experience. At least they’re consistent. 1. We were the only customers — save for the guys at the bar, who were clearly the waitresses’ friends. 2. The incessantly loud music. 3. The complete lack of service. 4. The even greater lack of English. And, honestly, some Spanish wasn’t understood either. Don’t go if you have any food restrictions at all. «Sin queso»… «sin carne»… all mean nothing. We had to send our food back a couple times and then just gave up after a while. 5. This place cannot meeting operating costs on its restaurant revenue. Something very illicit is going on there. It’s a shame I had to contribute to whatever trade they’re engaged in. I hope the feds have eyes on this place.

My family and I were the only customers there except for creepy guys drinking at the bar. The waitresses couldn’t speak English which made things complicated and the food was definitely not authentic.

Didnt realize there were 2 on Unilocal.i guess they shut down and just moved next door. Went this evening because it was convenient and the sign said open. However, I walked out without even ordering. Not a single person in there understood English. So I inquired about the menu and drinks with my struggle Spanish. The place was completely empty with the exception of 2 people who looked surprised we walked in. There was no bar menu and they looked surprised when we tried to order something. They had no idea what to do. Its clear that this establishment is open for something other than serving food and drinks. It doesn’t even smell like a restaurant lol. Ridic. dont waste your time going here unless you really just want to pop in to validate everything said in this review lol.

Seemed like a quaint neighborhood mexican joint, so I decided to stop in. Right at the front door, I was patted down by a «security guard» who said he was hired by the joint. What kind of neighborhood Mexican restaurant requires a pat down for entry? Needless to say, I didn’t stick around to find out and left.

I had to laugh at these reviews because I had the same experience exactly. If you are looking for service and ambiance go elsewhere. I thought the food was quite good, it is sad that this area has very few choices for decent Mexican food and I felt this was definitely better than average. Would I go back there? Probably not. I was visiting the area because friends live near there, we wanted a meal before heading to a party at their house. We had a lot of time(thank god) so we checked out the shopping mall to see what restaurants there were. It was not even clear that Viva Tequila IS a restaurant. The blacked out windows are a tad off-putting, but we were feeling a bit adventurous. We took a seat and the waitress came by to get us drinks, then took our order, and that was pretty much the last we saw of her. The other reviewers are not kidding. The waitresses have a lot going on at this place, but none of it seems to be tending to customers. The noise didn’t bother me, but I was sitting really close to the door, so maybe it wasn’t as bad. Just very slow service, try the food if you are not in a hurry and DON’T expect to be catered to, I get the feeling the staff could not care less if they got any customers in or not.

No stars. This place is horrendous!!! Guacamole was store bought, margarita mix store bought, chips store bought, shots weren’t chilled, service was awful, only music playing was from a TV. We should’ve known it was bad when we looked around n there were no guests anywhere to be found… my date said, is that a prostitute? Please save your $$$ n go to Taco Bell you’d have a better experience n food!

First impressions: The décor inside is promising but the music ruins the ambiance. It is super, super loud. I changed tables to get away from the speaker but it didn’t help much. It sounded like a night club in there(with a mix of club music and traditional sounding Mexican Mariachi — not meant to be played at such volumes, I don’t think). The service was so slow I actually thought they forgot about me, but just when I was ready to get up to leave the waitress came over with my tacos. The food was OK, nothing special.(I much prefer District Taco in D.C. or Chevy’s in Pentagon City.) I expected fresh made chips and tortillas and I’m pretty sure these were not. The salsa was tasty but if you like spicy you’ll be disappointed. It was OK but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again. I’d rather eat at Rice & Spice a couple doors down.

I hate to give this place one star because I actually kind of liked the food, but the place is so horrible that I cannot bring myself to give it any more stars. I went two different times, hoping for an improved experience. Why did I do that?! 1. After leaving the gym on a Saturday evening, I decided to undo all my hard work and try the new Mexican place across the way. I went there, and it was SOOOOOOOO loud. I had already walked in, so I felt a little awkward just leaving, so I stayed. The service was horrible, but the worst part was the blasting music. It was like a nightclub. but an empty restaurant(except for 2 tables of drunk dudes). I couldn’t hear the waitress, which wasn’t a big deal because most of the time she was completely ignoring me anyway. The waitresses are either at a table on the side of the room on their phones, or sitting at a drunk dude table flirting. I got my salsa. it was wonderful — would have loved to have had more but the waitress wouldn’t look up at me — and ate my huge burrito. I paid with cash because I felt a little uncomfortable using my card… and she shorted me the coin part of my change. It isn’t a big deal I guess. but, I was a little annoyed. She charged me $ 3 for a Coke. and I received 0 refills because she never came back to my table. I thought about leaving that 42 cents as a tip, but I wanted to have the option of going there again, so I did not. Besides the food, it was one of the most unpleasant experiences I have had at a restaurant. 2. … and then I went again. I thought well, maybe it was so loud because it was a Saturday night. So I tried a Sunday afternoon. why did I pick this time to be an optimist??? I walk in. and it was jut TV noise, so I sat down. She sits me next to the TV. and then she turns it up. And then she turns the music on… BLASTING. There was one other table of customers besides me… another group of drunk dudes(there seems to be a theme). They ask her to turn this OTHER music on. So now I am sitting there with a TV blasting in my left ear, and TWO different songs blasting all around me. I was like… am I on TV right now? Is this really happening? This time around, the salsa was not as good. I tried the fajitas. they were ok. They only brought me 2 really small tortillas, so I requested more — I got 2 small ones again. Then I wanted to leave, so I had to actually WALK over to the waitress table to ask for my check. she gives it to me. and they charged me $ 2 for the tortillas! I was like. um, you never told me they are extra. And $ 1/tortilla?! They were tiny! You know what she said. *blank face*. She just looked at me like she could not possibly care less. So I paid. left. and I will never, ever return again. Don’t bother going here. just wait until it closes and something(hopefully) better opens in its place.

This place is uninviting all around. On the outside, other than a Viva Tequila sign, the windows are blocked out so you cannot see inside and there is no menu or any indication of what’s going on. Once inside, the uninviting continues. Food took a long time to arrive to our table. Our burritos were something we could have made in the microwave at home. The meal didn’t come with all the food components described on the menu. The waitresses spent the whole time flirting obnoxiously with male customers. To top off the uninviting theme, at the end of the meal, the check came with a set gratuity. Who on earth does that for a party of two adults? Forced into a tip and nothing indicated that was going to be the case. Awful. Bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere. Good news — they won’t be there long, and we can hope for a better replacement in their spot.

By far one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had! From the meal, to the drinks to the excessively loud music… very disappointing! On top of that, the customer service was extremely sub-par and the wait staff was dressed inappropriately! I waited over 45 minute for TACOS, then had to wait an additional 5 minutes for silverware. At the end of my meal my bill had to be corrected which took an additional 10+ minutes. I definitely WILLNOT be coming back!
