9 pm on a Wednesday night. Locked myself out of my garage(which had my car and keys that I needed for work the next day). Called Alhambra Locksmith; they answered the phone promptly(kudos +1). I was told it was $ 30 to have the locksmith travel to my location plus a fee that starts at $ 25 and goes up «depending on the security level of the lock». I have a kwikset lock on my door. It was just a doorknob. Not a deadbolt. Or a doorknob + deadbolt. How much did the locksmith charge me? Oh, just $ 150! I asked him why the fee was so high and he said this was for the labor charge and the lock. Maybe Alhambra Locksmith should start telling customers that there is a LABORFEE that isn’t anywhere near the $ 25 that was quoted to me. My bill read: Trip Charge $ 29.00 + Labor Charge and Lockout Kwikset Door Knob $ 150. My total: $ 179. = Me More Upset and Unhappy. Alhambra Locksmith needs to realize people calling them are already not in a good mood(they’re locked out of SOMETHING); so being UPFRONT is probably in their best interest. Regardless of whether the questions were or were not asked. Oh yeah — I made my phone call around 9:15 pm and the locksmith did arrive within an hour of my phone call(kudos +1). Two stars.
