Dapper Dog Grooming

Wonderful help! Marilyn the owner loves dogs and our Charlie doesn’t mind being groomed there at all. Her prices are great and the grooming is excellent.

Brought my Australian Shepard in for a summer cut and am so happy with the result ! Bandit was greeted by the groomers assistant who was extremely friendly (which bandit picked up on and reacted accordingly) and I felt more than comfortable leaving her there for the duration of her bath/​cut. Two hours later I got a call that she was ready. The woman working there was very friendly and told me how well behaved Bandit was. When bandit came out she was so excited and happy to show me her new hairdo. We will definitely be back!

This place is still in business! The are now at 5607 Huntington drive N. Los Angeles ca 90 032 it is basically right across the street from the old location! The cross street is Berkshire ave right near Antigua bread. Same groomer and same great services!

I just walked out of this store w my dog, cancelled the groom and bath we had scheduled. I was very uncomfortable with how the groomer was working on a dog that was already there. The dog seemed to have become used to it but it just seemed like an experience I didn’t want to put my dog through.
They are moving so the place looks like it’s been stripped down, but it also looks dusty and there was no place to sit and wait the two hours they said it would take. Two hours because there was just the one groomer and two dogs ahead of us. And my dog would have to wait his turn. That seems like bad time management and a recipe for disaster and unnecessary incarceration for my dog.
The lighting back there was naked light bulbs, the dogs were put straight into one of the crates stacked in rows by the wall. It just seemed like a miserable experience, especially when for not much more you can get a nicer experience, a gentler groomer and maybe a dog that doesn’t completely dread going to get a haircut.
When I mentioned I wanted to cancel, mostly based on the covert aggression displayed by the groomer during her work with the other dog, she just looked even angrier, started to tell me if I wasn’t ok with the crates (my lame excuse to her) I’d never get my dog groomed. And then as we are walking out, she was over by the nice guy who checked us in and looked to be taking it out on him.
This lady needs an attitude adjustment and I can’t understand how this business has 4 stars. I hope they manage to work these issues out with the move to a new location. I just think it’s irresponsible for them to book appointments when they are clearly unable to deliver a safe and pleasant experience in their current state.

I have been bringing my mini schnauzer here for a couple of years now, but I will NEVER take there again. The last time I took her there she came back with severe nicks on her neck, belly and legs. She obviously was someone’s practice dog. The worst part is they tried to cover up the huge nick on her neck with a bandana. She came back so scared and nervous. Please don’t take your dog here if you really care about them.

This was my regular groomer for a couple years, I was pleased with the service until recently. The last time I took my dog there, she was not groomed to my specifications, or in the style that I always ask for, she looked like she was practiced on. The owner has gotten jaded and insulting and whomever groomed my dog this last time was inexperienced. No more dapper dog for me
Oh the reason for the 2 stars… the price is still pretty reasonable as far a groomers go.

Affordable, cute shop that does a spectacular job. I have been taking my dog for years. On occasion he will have a little, tiny uneven spot, but solely because he acts up and Marilyn isn’t trying to injure him in the process of cleaning him up. I’d rather have a happy dog then a traumatized one. I love Marilyn. She has a dry and often sarcastic attitude, which may put some people off, but she means no offense and is excellent with dogs and grooming. If you are looking for a clean, affordable place that will treat your dog with care and kindness, while giving her/​him an excellent cut and wash then this is the place for you.

After having taken my cocker spaniel to Petsmart for the last 3 years, I decided to find something a little more wallet-​friendly. A friend had recommended Dapper Dog so I called and made an appointment for a Saturday morning.
The location is super easy to miss, so you’ve got to keep an eye out. There’s also only street parking, so I felt lucky to find a spot right in front. :)
Once inside I was pleased with the cozy setup and Marilyn’s very positive, friendly attitude. I informed her it was my first time there and she happily explained what I would need to fill out (just basic info. about my dog, Yogi Bear) and then asked what I would like to see done for him. I explained that he usually gets a 4 all around and that although I knew there were some serious mats around his ears, if possible, I wanted to keep them fluffy. We chatted for a bit and then I left feeling pretty good about my new potential groomer!
Once I went to go pick him up, I was almost completely satisfied with the entire experience. The price was great –only $ 40 for the bath, cut, teeth cleaning, anal gland expression and ear cleaning, which I’ve easily paid double for at Petsmart. My dog Yogi Bear seemed in very good spirits which is a first for me to see right after a grooming trip. Marilyn took the time out to talk to me a little longer about different types of ingredients in dog food that are more nutritional than others, what to look for, and even gave me a few pamphlets she created herself with the resources she used listed on the bottom. My one and only gripe with the experience was that I was taken too literally. I did in fact say that I wanted to keep Yogi’s ears fluffy, so they did exactly that-​only in the places where there were not any mats. lol. :) It’s actually pretty funny because part of his ears were shaved and the parts they could save were left alone so his ears were very uneven.
Regardless, he still looked über cute, especially with the green little bandana they put on him. I just know now that I need to be a little more specific in my directions for his cut. Despite that minor and pretty funny detail, I feel I have definitely found my new groomer and plan to come back.

They’re absolutely rude and disrespectful and I regret bringing my dogs here.
I called on a friday morning and asked for pricing for two small dogs. One’s a miniature poodle, another is a poodle /​japanese chin mix. Their hair was matted and I know that they’ll need to be shaved. I talked to the receptionist on the phone and described their condition and that they need to be shaved. She told me they couldn’t take me in that day and offered me a spot for the next day at 1:30. I gladly took the appointment, thinking finally I found a decent groomer.
It took 3 people to bring the dogs to the groomer because 1. my dog, the mixed poodle, is crazy hyper around my boyfriend’s dog and 2. my boyfriend’s dog hates my dog because he won’t stfu LOL. We arrive a little late and was immediately greeted by a not so polite worker. She growled at us telling us not to be late in the future or they’ll give our appointment away. Where did they learn their personal skills? NOT OUR FAULT YOUR SHOP IS IN AN AREA WHERE YOU CAN’T PARK ANYWHERE. We had to drive around a bit looking for parking. I didn’t feel like getting a ticket that day okay?
We left our doggies there. Not soon after did they give us a rude call to our cellphone. They interrogated my boyfriend on who he was because they didn’t see his name on the appointment list. I made the appointment in my name but filled out the info card with his info because I had to go to work. Then they accused me of saying things I’ve never said like «your girlfriend told us you’ve been here, we don’t see your folder» and rude things like «we can’t take your dogs on a saturday at 1:30 because their hair is matted». EXCUSEEEE ME?! Did I put a gun to your head and force you to give me that appointment? I think not, whoever was the receptionist that day GAVE me that slot knowing very well that the dogs need to be shaved. I made it clear from the very beginning that I was new (hence asking for pricing) and that they have matted hair. Do not accuse me of saying things or forcing you to do something. Lastly, don’t hide behind the telephone and throw all this rudeness at us.
The doggies smelled nice and they didn’t seem traumatized. The people there seem nice to the dogs but terrible to people. Their work was below decent at best, and that’s stretching it a bit. My poor doggie had patches of uneven hair everywhere, especially around his face. I feel that they did a very messy job and I’ve definitely have seen better considering it was $ 55 for the cut before tip.
If I can give negative stars I would in a heart beat. You’re in the service industry, learn how to be personable and nice to the people who are giving you business, not give them a hard time.

I really don’t understand how anyone can think that Marilyn is friendly! Apparently they have never heard the things that she says when the client leaves the building. She swears like a sailor and mocks anyone that comes in the door (behind their back of course).
She said that she loves dogs and hates people. Well that would be great if dogs could bring themselves in! That is not someone that I want to give my money to. Her assistants are nice but she treats them terribly. There are plenty of other places to take your pet that know how to deal with people and animals in a nurturing way. She feels that she can just ask the dog to sit still and they should listen and if they don’t she aggressively forces them to.
It is appalling and I can’t stress enough to avoid this place!!!

Where is the negative star option?
I usually bring my 15lb dog to snowball grooming in Arcadia. However, with such positive reviews here, I decided to give dapper a try. Snowball is definitely a few notches above dapper when it comes to cleanliness, environment and how they treat the pups.
Dapper has a cold warehouse like feel when you walk in. My dog immediately tensed up when he walked into the place. Dapper on that Saturday was ran by a a older lady, and a few high schoolers. The lady was not personable at all. Since I was already in the shop, I figure I’ll just go ahead with the grooming.
I returned before their suggested time to find that they were still working on my dog. They were so rough with him! They were firmly yanking on my dogs tails to get him to stay. Then she did his nails. I like it when groomers use a dremel like tool to file the nails after cutting them. It smooths out the nail. Dapper doesn’t even have the tool. They used a regular old filer, she filed the nails a few strokes, which hardly made a difference and handed me my dog.
He looked poorly groomed, unlike any other groomer I’ve brought my dog to before. I felt so bad. I had to bring my dog to another groomer to finish his nails.
Dapper was a horrific experience. I will not be returning.
Mochi grooming in Alhambra and snowball in arcadia is 10x better than this place.

I’m not usually a five star guy, but my partner and I were really pleased with Dapper Dog. They hit a trifecta on the most important factors: 1) they were kind and gentle with our dog, 2) they were professional and thorough, 3) our dog was happy and in good spirits when we picked her up. It doesn’t hurt that they are very reasonably priced.
Our dog is a good-​natured, mixed-​breed terrier who doesn’t require much in the way of clipping or special handling, but I got the impression that Marilyn and her team could easily handle the difficult cases.
The grooming salon is bare bones, no frills of any kind, but what they lack in fancy décor they more than make up for in TLC for your dog and professional dedication.
I couldn’t recommend them more highly.

I was searching the net for groomers and reviews. Everyone in town told me to another location in Pasadena who NEVER returned any of my 6 calls over 2 days. After reading all the GREAT reviews on Unilocal and even finding a coupon on her dapperdog site I decided to give her a go. Domino LUVS them and we love the way she does him up! Marilyn and her crew are the BEST of the BEST! Thier new shop is bigger and has great toys, food and other stuff! They are only a half a block from the old shop. For those people who left bad reviews… you must be stuck up. It’s about how they treat the dogs! Domino gets A+ care and always looks great!

We love taking our shih-​tzu puppy to get groomed by Marilyn, the owner of the Dapper Dog. Prior to finding Marilyn, we would take our puppy to get groomed at the local Petsmart, which charged high prices, was disorganized, and never gave you a sense of security in leaving your dog with them. Many times our puppy would return to us skittish and ill-​mannered.
Our first appointment with Marilyn, on the other hand, had us delighted. Our dog was freshly groomed and her usual happy self when we picked her up. All of Marilyn’s dogs are handled in the open, so owners can easily see their dogs throughout the grooming process.
Great place! You won’t be disappointed!

I love this place! Marilyn is so very down to earth, I knew when I walked in that this was not someplace where I was going to be made to feel guilty for letting my white fluffy (supposed to be fluffy) dog get dirty or overgrown and I was not going to be overcharged.
Marilyn does a great job with both my dogs and one is VERY shy about grooming, meaning he has tried to bite before and I have had some groomers just not be very nice to us. The fact is he has a funny paw from an injury that was untreated before I adopted him and he has reasons to be wary! Marilyn deals with my little mutts with grace and respect and I adore her for it!
She also talks — –and listens! — more carefully then some groomers when determining what kind of cut to do. For summer we get shorter cuts, sometimes I want the faces extra short so they can grow out, etc. Marilyn deals with all that and doesn’t try to make my dogs into something they are not (high brow, LOL!)
A few other reviewers mentioned one of my favorite things about Dapper Dog — a bath includes a foot trim and face, ear and heiny trim as well. My old place used to charge for a full haircut just to get my terrier’s ears trimmed, it was ridic!
I highly recommend this place — –it is a bit of a drive for me since it is across town but totally worth it.

I may have to update this next time, as my boyfriend took my Pom in and I did not get to see the facilities or meet the groomer. He said she was very nice and the staff was very kind to my little love. What I do know is that she looks WONDERFUL! From what I can tell, Marilyn is a pro with the grooming tools. She didn’t even get a full cut — just a bath and sanitary trim — and her coat looks fab! The trimmed parts are very evenly blended, not choppy, her fur is shining and she smells great!
Definitely will try this place again!

We have found a new dog groomer! Our stand by, Pasadena Pet Grooming moved and it’s really too far for us now. Dapper dog is very close by and we thought that the owner, Marilyn, and groomer were wonderful. Very kind and gentle with our spastic poodle. She did an excellent job on his coat and nails and even suggested a good shampoo that she would use for Pierre’s sensitive skin.

I was really happy with my experience here at Dapper Dog Grooming. I have a 20-​pound pomeranian and brought him in to get a bath and nail trimming. I was able to call at noon on Saturday and get an appointment for 1. The location is a little strange because it’s right where Huntington and Main meet, so if you’re driving west on Main, the groomer location is on a one way street and you have to turn left and then circle around the block. Not a big deal, but thought I’d mention it.
The facilities are kind of small, but didn’t feel cramped. Cages line the left and right side of the room and the grooming tables are in the middle. There was Marilyn the groomer and two other people who I assume are assistants. I was greeted immediately, filled out some short paperwork and Marilyn gave me a quick quote. She said it would $ 28 and that included a brush out (since he has a double coat), the bath, nail trimming, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning, anal gland cleaning (yuck!) and a trim around the butt and feet. She told me that for this breed she generally does that because what’s the point of the bath if they poop and then get all dirty again? Very good point! They put my dog in a small cage to await his grooming and told me they would call me when he was ready which would be before 4.
He was ready at 3:30. I came and got him, and he was all beautiful, silky and clean! I didn’t notice right away until I was in the car, but they had tied a little handkerchief around his neck to complete the look. I was really happy with the trimming because now when he has to go Number Two, it won’t mess up his fur. (I’m going to have to request that at other places from now on.) As a bonus, I found a coupon on their website that takes $ 7 off a first time visit on a bath, so my damage was only $ 21 plus some tip. Great value. I will definitely return.

Marilyn was awesome. I just had to say that first in my review.
Also, before I brought in Caesar, my Sheltie, I have to say that he was in a terrible state (in my opinion, at least). Poo stuck to his butt because of his very long coat. His coat was hard to groom because he had a lot of mats, so every time I hit a knot, Caesar would try to bite me and run away.
Just… the poor thing was very hot from the summer weather in his very thick coat and his was very dirty because there is a lot of dirt in my backyard.
He was also pretty smelly. I felt bad for him. No one at home is very good at upkeeping with Caesar (which makes me wonder why they have him in the first place).
I did a lot of digging around online to find a place close to my house, and I stumbled upon Dapper Dog Grooming. What hit me on this was the part about «anal glands are expressed». I cocked a brow and then faintly remembered something. I think Marilyn has actually been on Mike Rowe’s Dirty Jobs!
I actually got in contact with Marilyn through e-​mails to detail my sadness at the state of my dog. She was very nice and very helpful, and I was really happy to bring Caesar in. Poor Caesar. He’s had some pretty bad experiences with groomers, and he was rather frightened. But I got him inside and hemmed and hawed over what kind of cut he needed on his coat.
I wanted to start him fresh. So I chose a cut based on some of the pictures of dogs Marilyn had up, and hoped for the best.
Returning to pick him up, I was in shock and awe. Caesar looked GREAT! He was clean! He was happy! He didn’t smell like poo! Marilyn did a really superb job with him. He looked a bit like a fox, and I rather like the look, too. I just can’t be grateful enough for such a wonderful job, and I’m going to be bringing him again very soon!

I have been taking my dog Ziggy a bichon /​poodle mix to Marilyn from Dapper Dog for about 2 years now.
I followed her from Pets Delight in Pasadena were she was working before she got her own business.
I have tried other groomers and I am so happy I found Marilyn!
Since then I have moved to L. A, I have to drive a bit to take my dog to Dapper Dog but it’s well worth it.
I take my dog to the vet from time to time for check up’s and the vet said whoever is maintaining my dogs ears, nails, coat and teeth does a great job! Well I owe it to Dapper Dog!
Marilyn does a detailed job and is very loving and tender with Ziggy because he does get a little scared of being groomed.
I recently rescued a 2 year old cockapoo, Zoey and she looked like she had never been groomed. She was a bit tramatized at first but Marilyn is so patient with Zoey that now after two visits she is not freak’n out as much!
The price is great too!!!
