You can never go wrong with Thrifty ice cream. I’ve been eating this since I was a child. I love all the new flavors they add. My all-time favorites are birthday cake and strawberry /raspberry cheesecake on a waffle cone. The most difficult part of getting this ice cream is actually finding an employee to serve you. Sometimes there’s a wait but it’s worth it. They should have a Thrifty ice cream specialist to stand there and serve their amazing ice cream.

Love this place. Screw you Fosselman’s. Sorry, just had to say that. Aside from their Mocha Almond Fudge, I go to Thirfty’s for all my ice cream needs. This is the real deal. Although their strawberry cheesecake isn’t as good as it used to be; it was one of my favorites, but it sucks now: too sweet, not creamy. Still, I love their Medieval Madness, cookies ‘n cream, chocolate chip, and strawberry. They’re getting a bit pricy now, but the quality is so worth it. I don’t much care for their newer exotic flavors, but their classics are hard to beat. You’d have to go to an actual creamery(that isn’t Fosselman’s) to get better ice cream, like Sweet Rose down in Brentwood(near Santa Monica). Strangely enough, Golden Corral(a buffet) has awesome ice cream, but they only got four flavors. Just can’t go wrong with old-fashioned ice cream.

Still the same awesome tasting ice cream back when Rite Aid was Thrifty/Thrifty Jr. Cannot beat the price at less than 1.80 for one scoop. My favorite flavor is still Black Cherry!

for anyone who grew up as a kid in the los angeles area, you remember this as the«quarter scoop» ice cream, meaning, 25 cents got you a big single scoop of ice cream, in a cylindrical shape with is novelty considering the usual spherical shape scoop of ice cream. although prices have increased, they’re still just a modest $ 1.69 per scoop, which beats out all other ice cream shoppes. since my hubby used to be one of those LA kids who would take a detour to thrifty on the way home from school, he still insists on stopping by whenever we’re in the LA area. as a post dinner treat, we got: single scoop($ 1.69): half circus animal cookie + half cookie dough. loved the circus animal cookie since it had pieces of frosted animal cookies mixed into the ice cream. not sure what the base was, but it was a pretty pink colour. cookie dough was just ok, not many pieces of cookie dough in my half scoop, and tasted more like plain vanilla to me. double scoop($ 2.49): 1 scoop strawberry + 1 scoop cherry chip. strawberry was sweet and creamy. cherry chip had mini chocolate chips in the mix so it tasted more like a chocolate cherry, but the cherry flavour was faint. note that there is no seating at thrifty’s, but you can hang out around the ice cream counter or take your ice cream to go.
