Too expensive not worth for the quality, people who wants spend money to, I don’t like it, not recommended!

I was in the plaza and needed a quick to-go lunch after picking up my package at UPS. I saw this restaurant and automatically went inside without a thought because Japanese food! YESSS. I love raw fish, and I’m pretty sure that I’ll die from mercury poisoning in the future, but that’s fine with me because raw fish is delicious. I walked into the restaurant and I saw that it had a really dark interior, making the place look super classy. I asked for a to-go menu from the waiter, and he told me that lunch specials could not be ordered to-go. That means if there’s anything that catches your fancy on the lunch special menu, you have to pay for dinner price. I ordered a chirashi bowl, which came out to about $ 23-$ 24. YIKES. I think my wallet may have died just a little. I’m so use to seeing chirashi bowls being a little under $ 20, so this came out as a slight shock to me. However, I thought, «Oh whatever. Let’s just give this a shot.» I was given this cute little bag with my to-go order in it. The chirashi bowl came in this little lunch box, which was super adorable. But also… LITTLE. However, when I opened this lunch box, I was happy to see huge cuts of fish! YESYESYES. Huge cuts of fish is a good sign! Each piece of fish was fresh, and I enjoyed every bite. Also, what I see often at other Japanese restaurants is that they put either lettuce or something of the raw leafy variety in the chirashi bowl. I really like how Toros uses seaweed in the chirashi bowl because it really just brings everything together. The food is great here, but will I come back any time soon? Probably when I get into the«TREATYOURSELF» mood once in a while because that price, that price though.

Hands down the best sushi around, better than sushi roku when it comes to sushi and sashimi. Its always so fresh and tasty. Ive been coming here since it opened and it has never ever disappointed me. I LOVE the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi and red snapper sushi. A little pricey but so worth it. Cool atmosphere. The owner is really nice and gives it a homey feel. I highly recommend this place for a date or birthday dinner.

My last review of 2015! I was craving for sushi earlier this week and came upon this restaurant on Unilocal.I rarely ventured out to this plaza so I didn’t even know there is a sushi restaurant here. My family came here at around 12 on a weekday and it was quite crowded. Luckily, there was an open table so we were seated right away. Both of us ordered the sashimi lunch which also comes with miso soup, a small dish of tofu and salad. When the bowl of rice and the sashimi plate came out, it reminds me so much of the sashimi lunch with the placement and variety at sushi gen which wasn’t a bad thing at all. It comes with about 12+ pieces(both big and small) of sashimi. The sashimi were not the kind that melts in the mouth but I thought they were still decent good. Service was excellent throughout. The waiter walked past numerous times and took out the finished plate pretty quickly. In the end, I think I still prefer the ones from sushi gen but this is not a bad alternative considering this place is so much closer to home.

Situated in the ever expanding food scene on Main Street in Alhambra is Toros. Came here for lunch and tried the Premium Chirashi. It’s priced accordingly because it comes with sweet shrimp, toro, tuna, yellow tail, uni, and salmon plus some other goodies. For the sweet shrimp, you can request the head to be fried or prepared in a soup. I opted fried. Overall, the plate was solid. Sashimi was fresh and the toro was buttery. The sushi rice was cooked correctly with hints of vinegar. Service was acceptable, but on the slower side. I ordered green tea and the server refilled without me asking. The food took some time to come out. Check it out.

Toros is easily one of the better sushi restaurants in the area. The sushi chefs are always fun and inviting! We always try to sit close by the bar area — even when we have 10 people in the group, we insist that we just crowd around the corner by the chef’s stage! We always get: Sweet shrimp Uni Toro and oysters Yellowtail(generously cut!) Hot sake(don’t forget to fill a cup and cheers with the chef(s) and/or waiter/tress!) Dessert Red bean and taro ice cream. I’m sure everyone knows but if not, then let me fill you in on a not-so-secret, secret! My friend kept raving how much he loved the ice cream here but little did he know, the ice cream is from Fossilman’s on Main St. You’re welcome and the pleasure of sharing the ‘secret’ was all mine.

Is it the best sushi in LA? Nope. Is it the best sushi in the San Gabriel Valley? Most likely. So, in that context, I give Toros a 4 star. Parking: It’s Alhambra; not LA. There’s a parking structure attached to it and plenty of free street parking. Atmosphere: It’s a standard sushi restaurant look with sushi bar, seats, and Japanese-y decoration. Food: It’s more for sushi purists who just want sashimi and sushi, and not those gimmicky cut rolls. You won’t find anything involving a California roll on their menu, and I’m sure they might politely decline if you ask them for one(and judge you in silence). Also, I do not recommend making that soy sauce wasabi sludge(you know what I’m talking about) because the sushi tastes superb on its own. In fact, the server will even tell you which pieces not to dip in soy sauce. Pricing: Most of the good stuff is unmarked pricing. So be prepared for a mystery bill at the end.

For the price, servers sure weren’t attentive. The male busser tonight was the friendliest one. Definitely do not come here for service. I even got the feeling they were suspicious of me ordering alot of food and not being able to pay because I look young. Checked my id to use my credit card, kept telling me after i placed my order about the portion size even though it wasnt that much food, and worst is i ordered 6 oz of kobe beef but they gave me 3oz and told me i could order more if we wanted… Wtf? The pity of this restaurant is the food is really fresh and good. A Big Thanks to their servers and possibly management for killing what would have been a great dinner. Will recommend to friends NOTTOCOME!

Fresh and good quality sashimi! One of the higher quality fish you with a reasonable price can find in SGV. So expect to pay more here than compared to other places. They also serve the fish in very thick slices. You can taste the freshness in every bite. I recommend ordering either the sashimi dinner or chirashi bowl. The portion they serve can be shared between 2 ppl. Best time to come is for the lunch special. This place is small and always pack. So come early to avoid the crowd. I wouldn’t come if you have more than 6 ppl. They don’t have space for large parties! Parking is located in the back.

Good quality sushi and sashimi! Salmon, albacore and seared salmon sushi is so good and fresh! I wonder where they got their fish from. Price is slightly pricier as compared to other Japanese restaurants but if you want quality sushi, why not? They do have omkase menu, ranging from $ 100−150/person. Overall, good service, ambience and food.

I came in for their lunch special chirashi bowl. Honestly, best thing ever especially for the price offered. The fish was so fresh and I was already salivating when they put the bowl on the table. The amount of fish they give is also extremely generous. Since I came around the time that they opened doors, it was pretty empty. The service wasn’t the most attentive. The chefs were more attentive than the servers. And this was in a mostly empty restaurant. Looking at the other offers on the menu, they are a bit pricier than other restaurants but I can definitely attest to the quality of fish that Toros provides.

This place is my new go-to spot if I crave sashimi. For $ 40 you get a giant plate of high quality sashimi assortment – Salmon, Toro, Uni, Ikura, Hamachi, Sweet Shrimp, etc. The Sashimi Deluxe is pure heaven! In my opinion this is so much more worth it than the Sashimi dinner in Sushi Gen. If you crave some good quality sashimi and have the time to drive out to Alhambra I definitely recommend this place. S E R V I C E: The service here kind of sucks, though :\ Our server was rude and we had to ask her 2 times where our order was. Funny that our friend who got the Chicken Teriyaki meal had her food come out quicker than our Sashimi dishes which didn’t need to be cooked. P A R K I N G: I’m not familiar with this area so I had no idea there was a parking lot located inside and I parked across the street in a parking lot that offers 2-hour free parking. This place is really small and cramped, so if you want to come here I recommend making a reservation ahead of time because the line gets pretty long past 6:30!

Their fish quality is good but the service is terrible. A simple sushi dinner with 7 pieces took over 1 hour to make. They weren’t even that busy. It seems like the sushi chefs pay more attention to the customer at the counter. Very disappointed in their obvious neglect of customers. I would suggest for anyone to try the counter experience if you don’t want to stare at others eating. I probably won’t come back again.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice now and each time I’ve come I’m thoroughly impressed with the dishes. Food: uni/Ikura oyster + Yuzu sorbet oyster. The oysters were so tasty! The waiter advised to eat the oysters in the order of first savory and then sweet. The one with uni and Ikura on top was very savory with a hint of sweetness from the uni. The Yuzu sorbet was decadent and so refreshing. There was a hint of lemon in the sorbet which really brought out a nice sweetness of the oyster. Chirashi: The slices of fish meat were very nice and thick and were fantastic quality. The Chirashi came with salmon, tuna and yellowtail with some sweet egg. The sushi rice in the bowl was amazing! Had a nice sweetness to it. Bonus — the lunch meals come with miso soup, a tofu side dish and a pickled cabbage side — all delicious! The green tea is also very good and flavorful and I would highly recommend those who enjoy tea to try. Ambiance: very nice small/medium sized restaurant with a sushi bar and a projector behind it which was showing iron chef(the original) on the wall. Staff: very friendly and accommodating Parking: a little tricky if it’s busy. There is a garage in the complex but it’s quite small however there is also street parking.

First time here, this place has high quality sushi for sure. When we first walked in we were greeted by Joe and we sat at the bar. Allen was our sushi chef, he was fast, friendly, and attentively talented. Our server smiled all the time, she help pour our sake when our cups were low, and always checked on us. One of the best things I had here was the oyster topped sorbet, and oyster topped with uni. Also had jelly fish with specalized wasbi, yellow tail, 3 different white fish, red snapper, abalone, and the huge raw scallop was super fresh. This place isn’t cheap though but you’ll get the quality that you paid for. I would come back.

There’s a parking lot in the back. It can be hard at times since there’s not a lot of spots. The sushi is really fresh. I love everything I have tried there. The sushi chef at the bar. Older Japanese gentleman is really nice and a great sushi chef. The seared salmon and special salmon are delicious! I always get a few orders. Crunchy roll is pretty good as well if you like rolls. The toro melts in your mouth. Nomzzzzz… I only docked off one star because once we were charged for something we didn’t order. So just check your bill at the end.

I have been coming to TOROSSUSHI for quite some time, it’s probably one of the best spots to get your sushi fix if you are in the 626 area! * RESTAURANT * It is located on Main Street in Alhambra, and fairly easy to find. It is not a big restaurant, so try to come here early to avoid all those hungry sushi lovers. They have both sushi bar and table seating. However, large parties are not recommended, because most of their tables only accommodate 2 – 4 individuals. * LUNCHSPECIAL — CHIRASHIBOWL * There are days when I wish that I still work in the Alhambra area and I can hop over here during lunch time to get their awesome Chirashi Bowl. Even though the Chirashi Bowl is on their lunch special, they still serve high quality and generous portions of fish. While the menu said that it is limited quantities, I have been able to get it every time I came here for lunch. There’s also other items available for lunch, but personally, I think the Chirashi Bowl is the best deal on their lunch menu. * DINNER * Depending on the occasion and how much you want to spend, you can either order Sushi A-la-Carte or try their Omakase meals. On an average, I would end up spending $ 50-$ 60/person if I am ordering sushi a-la-carte(but you are only getting regular sushi). If you are more into the fusion stuff or celebrating a special occasion, try their Omakase($ 100+) and you would be served with approximately 10 different courses of beautifully presented fusion sushi items. * PARKING * There are some street parking available in front of the restaurant, and free parking in the covered parking behind the restaurant. If you are unable to find parking, try the side streets. The neighborhood is safe and you can always use the stroll after stuffing yourself with their awesome sushi.

Decided to come here for lunch after finding out that the line for ramen down the street was too long. Best decision made. Upon walking in, my friend and I were very surprised at how dimly lit the restaurant was. It was basically… dark. The menu selection was very wide and expansive, and it even had a photo of all the different types of fish and the categories. We took awhile looking through it, as there was so much to choose from. All meals come with a side of pickled vegetables, tofu, and miso soup. We decided to start off with the Kobe(from Japan) nigiri and the oyster tasting(of two). The kobe… was amazing. Literally melted in your mouth heavenly goodness. Our faces when we ate it… was comical, as it went from regular conversational faces. to the omg this is amazing face. haha. Then we received the oysters, two for each of us. The server suggested that we ate the oyster with uni and ikura first, followed by the yuzu sorbet oyster. Both oysters were extremely fresh and delicious. The uni and ikura was a delicious pair, and the yuzu sorbet had a nice, refreshing taste to end the oyster pairing. On to the entrees… I ordered the sushi deluxe($ 30) which included three white fish and 7 chef’s choice. The three white fish I got was golden snapper, red snapper, and halibut. All were very fresh and yummy. The rest of the fish I got consisted of oo-toro, halibut, salmon, scallop, hamachi, sweet shrimp, and more. All were very fresh and yummy– absolutely no complaints. I also had a choice of frying the shrimp head, or putting it in a soup. I chose the latter, and the soup was much more flavorful and rich than the miso soup we had as an appetizer. My friend got the chirashi bowl($ 15), which had a great variety of fish for the price. He absolutely enjoyed his bowl as well, and we were both extremely happy with our entrees. The total was around $ 80, and although it was pricey for lunch, it was well worth it as the quality was great. So glad that there’s a great sushi spot in the 626 area, and I can’t wait to come back to try their different types of toro!

If you want a good quality chirashi bowl in the area, this is the place for it. For just $ 35(premium chirashi bowl), I got a huge bowl of fresh goodies Each piece of fish was thick and of high quality, including toro, tuna, uni, sweet shrimp, hamachi, salmon, crab, spicy tuna, egg, albacore, seaweed salad, cooked tuna, and fried shrimp head upon request… I think that covers everything. I was a little skeptical with their small dinner menu, with only about 7 – 8 options and prices are $ 25+, but it’s all well worth the money. Service was also very good and they always promptly refilled our tea and water. Restaurant is small and gets busy on the weekends, so plan accordingly. Parking is in the back under the building.

Finally came back here for the omakase at the sushi bar, and the quality of food here is still excellent and top-notch. We were served: — red snapper(madai), golden eye snapper(kinmedai), halibut(hirame) — top belly tuna 2 ways(oo toro) — salmon — deep sea scallop(hotate) — mackerel(saba) — shima aji(striped jack) — sea urchin(uni) — miso soup with clams Each piece of sushi had a touch of sauce or some type of topping so the meal was enjoyed sans soy sauce and wasabi. The flavor profiles were all creative and unique, as the chef was able to coax out the sweet, salty, umami taste of each piece. Even the miso soup at the end was made from scratch and each bowel was filled with clams. My favorite piece was the salmon sushi. There was a paper thin slice of lemon on top and wrapped with a piece of translucent seaweed. Not only did the citrus cut through the fatty salmon, the seaweed provided the salty, oceany freshness and made a bite of good salmon even more interesting. But of course, the high quality may do a bit of damage to the wallet. I’ll still come for the lunch specials if I can, but when I want something creative, I can count on this place to excite my palate.
