Allen Birthing Center

I am so happy with the birth experience I had at the Allen Center! The midwives were caring and attentive during prenatal visits and they listened to and acknowledged all of my questions and concerns. During my delivery, I never felt rushed at any point which is a key component to successfully enduring a natural, unmedicated birth. There is a hospital right down the street in case of emergency, but I know the transfer rate at the Allen Center is very low. They only accept low-​risk pregnancies.
I would definitely recommend Allen Birthing Center to friends and family, and if I have another baby in Texas I will deliver there again. The building itself is a 100-​year-​old house that has been converted and it has such a peaceful, historic vibe. It was really nice.
My favorite part of my delivery was probably the hot tub. I hadn’t even asked for it in my birth plan, but the midwife filled it up anyway and it helped alleviate the pain SO much! What a difference it made! I was so thankful for that. Also, the midwife was very good at showing me how to breathe in order to optimally progress and push the baby down, and the perineal massage at the end during the birth provided a lot of pain relief as well.
Our midwife seemed experienced and really knew what she was doing. My husband and I felt like we were in good hands the whole time and my labor only lasted about 5.5 hours from when I first arrived. I attribute this fast, first labor to my comfort level and feeling of security while at the Allen Center.
I never felt pressured to undergo any medical procedures or to take any prescription drugs while undergoing prenatal care at Allen Center (unlike the OBGYN office at which I had previously been receiving care). We were able to take the baby home that same night, just 4 hours after delivering!
Overall, delivering at the Allen Center was an amazing experience. Their philosophy regarding labor & delivery aligns with my own belief that a woman’s body is made to give birth and that, barring an emergency or any high-​risk conditions, a woman should be left alone to deliver her baby in peace, in a safe place, surrounded by love. And that’s exactly what I got.
I am so glad the Allen Center exists and I wish there were more Allen Centers throughout the country so that more women could have as great a birth experience as I had!

So let me start by saying when you bring life into the world together you are emotionally attached to your birthing group! My husband and I had a home birth and I was lucky to have Carol as my midwife and she helped me stay calm when I was slipping into my «crazy» phase! We brought our second beautiful son into this world and I am looking forward to having my 3^rd child delivered with them. I highly recommend ABC the midwifed are great and appointments are very personal!

I could not love this place, the midwives or the staff more. When we got pregnant with our first child, we decided to forgo the traditional hospital experience for a more natural and comforting experience. From the moment we walked in, it felt like home and not just because it’s in a historical Victorian home. It was just comfortable. We felt hugged when we first walked through the door. The special care we received was the best and top notch; especially comforting if you are first time parents. We are now planning for baby number two and have returned to the birthing center. Still a wonderful, comforting experience and we are so honored to be back with them.

I can not say enough about how knowledgeable, professional, and poised these ladies are. I got the absolute best care money could buy, and feel so blessed to have used them. My childbirth experience was so amazing I was ready to have another baby the day after giving birth. I could not think of one thing I’d want to change about my care, and plan on using them again.

What can I say about the ladies at the Allen Birthing Center. except they are AWESOME! I love this place.
After finding out we were pregnant, I immediately started researching birth and everything associated with it. Based on my research, I felt like going the natural route was the path for us. I found ABC online, and also saw many positive reviews on it online as well as a friend who used them for their birth. One thing that swayed me to the ABC over the Women’s Birthing Center was the fact the Women’s Birthing Center (downtown) only did group interviews/​tours and I felt like that seemed really impersonal, and birth happens to VERY personal.
My husband felt a little skeptical of the whole midwife thing at first; imagining women in hippie skirts dancing around with incense. But, after we met with a midwife at ABC, he was totally on board and excited about the experience.
I had a great time my entire pregnancy. ABC is very hands off except for the bare minimums (like a GBS test and gestational diabetes test). It’s such a pleasant place to be and you never feel pressured about anything. Plus, you never wait an hour to see someone like you do at a regular doctor! Every single person there is kind and sweet and makes you feel great.
Our birth experience was pretty much exactly what we hoped for. It was an amazing natural birth and I felt so safe and loved (not to be one of those cheesy, hippie people, but it’s true). I can’t say enough good things about ABC. If we have a second child, we will definitely go back!
