This place has a small world Italian charm to it. The staff is amazing and the owner always asks you if everything was delicious. The food is amazing. I had the Rigatoni con Vodka. There chicken franchese and veal are amazing as well. Definitely my go to place for real northern Italian cuisine.

Went here for a business holiday dinner. Food was outstanding, clams appetizer was very good and I’m picky when it comes to seafood so that’s a plus. Had the tortellini bolo, very filling. Service was ok. Very cute restaurant as well just needs a little more features to it. Overall I was happy.

I am a big fan of the penne with vodka sauce. It is one of my favorite vodka sauce dishes and I have tried a lot of vodka sauces. It’s hard for me to order anything else when I come here since I know that dish will be delicious. The appetizers are also quite tasty. The clams in white wine garlic sauce is a favorite. My husband usually orders the chicken parm. He enjoys it, but it isn’t his all time favorite. I think the ambience is nice and perfect for a quick lunch or a more relaxed dinner.

EXTREMELY hit or miss, more miss than hit, unfortunately. I went to this restaurant a few times, and the food has little flavor. My first visit I ordered a very basic pasta dish(I think it was just pink sauce) and came out very dry with hardly any sauce. The next time I ordered pasta with meat sauce and again, hardly any sauce. That time I was seated in the basement. NEVERASK for the BASEMENT. Fake hardwood floors with plain white walls, folding chairs, and fluorescent lighting. I felt like I was in a vfw hall! Ground floor is «nicer» but very dark. No waiting area when u walk in. Waiters are slow. Last time I had chicken franchise and it was BAD. No TASTE. Others said chicken dishes also had no taste. Manager was very rude! Don’t go here please!

I am a frequent customer of Mezzaluna and am always pleased with the quality of food, affordable prices, and hospitality. Recently, I arranged for a small gathering downstairs in the private room. As always, I was pleased with all aspects of this event. The staff were attentive and provided the same high quality food as in the dining room. If you are looking for great food at a reasonable price with great service, try Mezzaluna.

Ok the food was very good. However the service was awful I had to ask for my soda 3 x. Then they did not bring any bread. For an Italian restaurant that was a true faux paus. When I finally had to ask for the bread it was ice cold. We had the calamari which was quite good although the marinara sauce only mediocre. The linguine w clam sauce again was delicious. My main gripe concerned the rude nasty incompetent waiter. As good as the food was I will not return.

I had the pleasure of celebrating my sons baptism at Mezza Luna this past weekend. Everything was perfect. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We had about 60 guests in the downstairs room which was spacious and comfortable. We were able to drop off the wine, balloons and cake early in the morning and everything was set up before we got there. I literally had nothing to worry about except having a good time with my family and friends. Everyone has such a great time. Highly, highly recommended :)

Ordered the bolognese and the pasta came out extremely overcooked and oversauced. Everything was put together like slop. I was told that I had to request for ‘al dente’ and the patrons typically request for overcooked pasta. Seriously?! I think we were the youngest patrons there for the evening! Service was fine and they took my entrée off the bill but will probably not return and I usually like to give a restaurant another shot to be fair if the first visit was disastrous. Hubby’s fish special was just okay. Looked like something served from a catering hall. Again, service was fine, prices were reasonable, and it’s byo but really can’t call this authentic italian.

Another great BYOB in Bergen county area. We like to come here because of the excellent service and food. They give you a complimentary rice ball and bruschetta. The waiter Aldo is awesome, the food is delicious and it has a nice ambiance. They also always have great specials not on the menu. Check it out.

I feel sorry to all residents of Allendale, for being stuck with this place for ‘fine’ Italian meals. There is nothing wrong with the service, but the food is overpriced and unauthentic. It’s unfortunate that Pastafino shut down several years ago, because that spot became a family tradition for us on special occasions. Pastafino served up authentic Italian cuisine in a bustling restaurant. The only reason people still frequent Mezza Luna is that the options for a sit down restaurant serving Italian food in Allendale are limited. I highly recommend eating elsewhere, like in Ridgewood or grabbing a handmade award winning pie from Angelo’s. There is nothing proprietary about Mezza Luna, all dishes could be easily made at home and turn out much better. Don’t make the mistake of eating here.

Last night rehearsal dinner downstairs for 85 people. Food was excellent, service was prompt and friendly. Hard to handle such a large crowd but the did it easily.

I’ve visited Mezzaluna seven times since my last review. There has been a noticeable deterioration of quality and originality during this time. I get a sense that they are trying to cut corners by oversaucing and overcheesing many of the dishes. Portions are much smaller, and the more expensive ingredients are sparse. For example, a pasta that listed prosciutto as an ingredient arrived with barely any to be found. Plenty of cheese, plenty of sauce, but other ingredients were seriously scarce. The creative dishes that I once enjoyed here are now hard to find. What were once, tasty, original dishes that utilized a nice combination of ingredients, has now turned into very basic Italian cuisine. Again, if you want lots of cheese or lots of sauce, you’ll be happy. I also notice how the pasta dishes are now mostly all large, thick pastas, such as pappardelle or rigatoni. There is hardly an angel-hair or linguine to be found. This type of pasta allows the serving of what looks to be big, piled high dishes. In reality, it’s just another example of corner cutting. I’d prefer if they served their pasta dishes with more traditional pastas, and still piled it high, and sauced it accordingly. Service is fair, where the job gets done, but you do not feel like a welcome guest. I note many of the servers giving off an annoyed or distracted attitude while interacting with diners. Mezzaluna has many fans, of which I was one of their biggest. However complacency and noticeable cost-cutting seems to have taken over. In my book, Mezzaluna is no longer on my list of regular places to dine. By the way Rebecca S: the waiters are Albanian, not Italian :-)

I’m shocked to see that Mezzaluna only has 3 stars! I work at an Italian restaurant with a comparable menu and Mezzaluna is way nicer in many ways(don’t tell my boss). First off, the ambiance is great. Definitely a place you can dress up for, but not too fancy that it’d make you feel out of place if you wore a t-shirt. Plus, they have actual cloth napkins and tablecloths so that’s a start. Next off, their food is always great. The complimentary bruchetta is literally best I’ve ever had, and it’s free! For dinner I usually opt for their homemade pastas, sans prosciutto of course. I went with my family this thanksgiving and ordered the rigatoni zingara. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente, and you can tell some real Italian love went into the plum tomato sauce. The Gaeta olives were a great addition, and the cherry peppers gave it the perfect amount of heat. Nom! For $ 15 it comes with an appetizer house salad to start. Can’t beat it! The service is always good, their workers are very professional. Plus, they’re all actually Italian, so that gives the place an even more authentic feel. No bar, but its BYOB and there’s a liquor store right across the street. If no street parking is available, there’s a free lot in the back. Seriously? This place is underrated. Tasty AND authentic Italian food, upscale ambience and good serivce? That deserves 5 stars in my book. Don’t be put off by Mezzaluna’s overall rating, take a visit to pretty little Allendale and try it out.

Went here this week for a work dinner with a prefixed menu. They started us off with a bunch of apps including fried calamari(light and not greasy), bruschetta, rice balls(not sure if these were homemade, Kinda got a frozen taste), antipasto(cheese and meats, very good). We then were given a house salad which was overloaded with red onions but had a very tasty dressing. For the main course I went with the chicken parm since we were only given a couple options. They gave one decent size piece of chicken with some veggies and a piece of potato. Chicken was cooked perfectly with just enough sauce and cheese. Skipped the veggies and potato since I was full from all the other food. Waiter was very attentive to our larger party. Would like to go back and be able to order off the menu to try their pasta dishes.

I come to Mezza Luna every few months as it’s so close to me. We like it when we just want a nice dinner out but don’t need a fancy place. The décor is very plain and the ambiance is upbeat but I wouldn’t consider it swanky or hip. Its’s a bring your own restaurant, but a well stocked liquor store is located right across the street. The food is consistently good. I’ve eaten pasta, fish, veal and chicken dishes. Every table gets a plate of crostini with bruschetta and if it’s not New Year’s Eve you get a fried meatball made with rice(very tasty). I came here on New Year’s Eve 2011 and 2013. We couldn’t get a reservation in 2012(called too late). I thought that this year, the tables was too close together and the menu didn’t have good choices. I understand that the kitchen is very busy on NYE but I would have liked a few more entrée choices. I got a feeling of being rushed at the end of the meal and felt trapped by the chairs at the table behind me. Think of sardines. Anyway, I will have to choose a fancier place next New Year’s Eve or maybe just have my own party. I’ll still go back to Mezza Luna but not on a holiday. It’s been around for years and has a loyal customer base.
