Affordable Angels Moving & Storage

I REALLY wanted to be able to write a more positive review for this company, but in good consciousness can’t.
Pros: Tom (owner) at first seemed GREAT. Affordable pricing for ⁹⁄₁ and flexibility when I wanted to swap dated a week out. The price was extremely reasonable for the time of year. Day of, the movers did show up, and they were great. The communication before and hand promptness of it all however, not so much…
Cons: I must have called Tom 20x trying to firm up plans, get him a deposit, get a written confirmation, and on the day of — trying to make sure he was even coming at all. Each time he was extremely confused, said he would call me back later, or asked me to call back after 9pm when he was home and in front of his information, etc… It was a nightmare. The day of the move, Tom kept pushing back the time and telling me he’d call me back (I had to call him repeatedly), the crew showed up at 5pm when they were supposed to come late morning.
Moral of the story: I think Tom is a nice guy, trying to run a business on his own and is in over his head. He means well, but if organization and promptness are important for you — you won’t find much, if any piece of mind with this company.

Affordable Angels is a great moving company! They were there for my family when we were in a pinch and needed a quick move. In my experience, Affordable Angels were on-​time, courteous, respectful and careful not to damage anything. They went the extra mile and made sure the job was complete before leaving, unlike many movers. The crew works fast, very fast, but at the same time very carful and precise. The owner Tom, who booked the job is great– answers all of my questions and took the time to communicate with me and my family as well as his crew. Again, most moving companies are the exact opposite of this. Affordable Angels truly are that– Affordable Angels.

I hired Affordable Angels for a move on 8÷30÷2011 and while Tom was mostly … pleasant, here are some pros and cons:
— Some of the time, the movers were on the phone, taking breaks (smoke, gas, etc.) and were still on the clock i.e., they were still charging me
— they showed up late (I asked for 9am, Tom didn’t call until 9:15 saying he would be there around 9:30 as they had an earlier move)
— Tom was arranging deals with other customers (I understand that’s the nature of the business), but at least do my job well first.
— poor organization: they arranged their truck really poorly, taking in small things first and the biggest things last, when pros would do the opposite. They did this TWICE.
— they ended up not being able to move all my stuff
— they did not carry insurance and could not provide certificate of insurance though I asked for it twice
— they took a lot of breaks (including smoke breaks and phone breaks) which were still «on the clock» and I could not track them down several times
— they weren’t cheap (around September 1^st, they were at least $ 120 per hour)
— they broke a number of items while moving (glasswear) or scratched a number of pieces of furniture: cracked, scratched, dirty entertainment center; cracked, feet chipped, one knob bent on dresser; wheel broken — desk chair; one Ikea Billy top — cracked; 3 Lenox wine glasses broken; one Lenox martini glass broken; dinged hutch; significant dings on dining room table, 1 cup missing
— they did not take direction well or listen to my direction
— to make it worse, Tom did not return my calls/​emails about requesting either refund or replacement
So, all in all, I say, caveat emptor… buyer beware. (I will happily edit this review if Tom refunds/​pays me for damaged items.)

I have used Affordable Angels a few times and have recommended them to friends and family. Everyone has been really pleased with their service and prices. Tom is great to work with! I will 100% use them on my next move… there’s no reason not to.

I used Affordable Angels to have an antique couch hoisted through a window up to my 5^th floor apartment… which looked impossible. Not only did they do it, they did it without any damage to my couch or my apartment. They spent a lot of time making sure that my couch was wrapped properly to protect it for the hoist. They were also flexible on coming out and just moving in the one piece of furniture without any minimums — which is very hard to find. Thank you so much Affordable Angels!
