Excellent service. We went over the issues and possible solutions. I learned a lot, actually. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my computer needs.

Avoid CompUStar in Allston. The guy there is shady and does questionable work without quotes.
My laptop had a bad case of malware and his solution was to wipe everything and do a basic restore for $ 165. I had nothing of particular value on the laptop, but geez, the guy uses a sledgehammer instead of a scalpel.
Didn’t even try to remove the malware or use any data recovery, nor did he ask. Plus he’s kind of rude. «I called you twice to say it’s ready. why did you not pick up?». «Why is your laptop so big and heavy? Not good!»
I should have went to MicroCenter.
Also he charged me $ 100 for HDD cloning. Seemed rude about that too like it was an unusual request.

This was my third repair at this store and unlike previous OS reload costs, the same old reloading came $ 65 more. Hey! I guess inflation, hah. Not really. It just greediness that drives the owner to push more down the throat after too many years in business. And my attempt to dispute the charge through bank came down with the owner’s proof using my signature on the receipt. Then, he creatively dodged the Attorney’s General complaint alleging the cost of labor. Hey, previous two HP machines were not in need of as much labor as my up and running custom made Antec with busted OS, hah? And my Chapter 93A demand letter is nothing to respond to. Next thing you know, he will be spitting into my attorney’s face. It is clear that with prices such as Micro Center offers, the major repair businesses become obsolete and the customer treatment is thus an integral part for a successful owner that deals with peculiar repairs that do not cost as much as a brand new or used machine. Cheating is not the solution!!! And this business should go from the community of Allston!!! We should unite our efforts and contact police for every screw over this prick does !!!

One of the most experienced computer repair shops in Boston (they’ve been around for 15 years). Simon will fix your computer on site and on time as long as the parts are there. If you crack your laptop screen, he’ll fix it cheaper than the Apple store or Best Buy. If you break your DC jack (which is quite common with Dell laptops), he’ll solder a new one for you. I highly recommend for all your computer hardware repair needs.

Really nice guy – I needed to have my hard drive replaced and he was very honest and clear in explaining everything. Pretty inexpensive too – definitely recommend for any type of computer problem

The DC jack on my laptop caved (literally) on me recently, and since it’s is no longer under warranty, I needed to find someplace to have it repaired that would not cost an arm, a leg, a kidney, and a few limbs from my firstborn. Compustar had great words from fellow Unilocalers and was running a $ 25 off $ 100 deal at the time, so I decided to give them a try. I have to say, I had a great experience. I took my laptop in, told them what was wrong, and they had it fixed on the premises for $ 125 (plus my discount) in under a week, which was the time frame and price they told me up front. Considering that they do their work on site (no sending computers off to god-​knows-​where) and their prices for common repairs are among the most competitive I’ve found in Boston (check their Web site for lists of services), I’ll definitely take my little warranty-​less laptop back here the next time it has a boo boo!

Great service! I (naively) first went to the Apple store with my broken macbook pro, but was quoted close to $ 800 because my Apple Care was expired. They «diagnosed» my computer with a broken screen/​connector cable. Brought it to Compustar, and not only did he fix it quickly, cheaply, but he also realized that it wasn’t the screen at all!
He quoted me less than half what Apple had, and even took a picture to show me what was wrong my logic board. On top of everything, he fixed a small extra problem without upping the cost.
I highly recommend this repair shop!

Friendly and fast service. I brought in my Dell Inspiron after the wifi capabilities stopped working. I needed it desperately since I am a grad student and got it back the next day and it works perfectly.

My Lenovo laptop needed some clean-​up so I brought it to Compustar today. Simon was very helpful and I didn’t have to pay what it would cost to buy new. I picked up my laptop at the end of the day. Thanks Simon.

This place is pretty cool. I cracked my brother’s macbook screen and had to get it replaced. I went to the apple store, over $ 260.
Went here cause it was nearby, $ 100 for the screen and $ 75 to put the thing on. It only took like 4 hrs too.
I think I made the right decision

Awesome! Broke the glass on my macbook screen and had bought a piece of replacement glass to try to do it myself. When I realized that this was a horrible misadventure I brought my computer to Compustar. Not only did they charge me ¹⁄₁₀ of what the apple store would have charged me (since they needed to send it out and fix everything they could find wrong), they also were able to get it done in about an hour.
The people who work there are very pleasant and super helpful.
I would recommend this place to anyone!

This place is a hidden gem, I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years, they’ve done everything for me. They helped me build an ultimate gaming computer for a great price, I’ve bought 6 laptops from here as gifts for friends and family and everybody has loved them! Anytime I’ve gotten a virus or something went wrong, they’ve fixed it right, fast and cheap. They even saved my xbox 360!
