Unleashed by Petco

I love having Unleashed as my neighborhood pet store. They carry everything I’ve needed for my cat since I moved into the neighborhood, including flea medication and a large variety of grain-​free and natural foods (both wet and dry), and litter.
If you purchase a food item there that your pet doesn’t like, you can bring back the container and they’ll refund your money. It’s best not to abuse the privilege, of course, but it’s a nice option to have. I’ve only done it twice, no questions asked, even though I didn’t have a receipt.
In the evenings I often see happy dogs and dog parents participating in training sessions or playtime. There’s not a huge space, but they really make the most of what they have.
Kudos to all the employees I’ve encountered – they’re all friendly and helpful (and I think many are pet parents themselves). They’re not just grunts punching a clock.

Althouh this pet store is in the heart of the city it has the atmosphere and attitude of a neighborhood pet store.
They have a great supply of «made in the USA» pet treats as well as really helpful friendly staff.
This is not the closest pet store to where I live but I always combine a visit here when planning other errands as I think the store has overall excellent service and top notch dog stuff.

Amazing. Employees were friendly and answered many questions about rabbit adoption even though it was totally not related to their branch. Seemed to really care about the animals that come in.
I like to support small businesses but if you need pet supplies, please go here and NOT The Pet Shop which is a few blocks away and a terrible record of pet mistreatment.

Last night, I ventured here for the first time around 8:15pm to pick up my dog some food because I realized he was completely out. A little while before we headed out, I had trimmed one of his nails too short and cut the quick. I stopped the bleeding with cornstarch and he seemed totally fine and happy to go run an errand with me, but it must have re-​opened on the way. I didn’t notice until we got inside the store and I realized he was leaving a trail of blood. I looked down and it was all over me (I had been holding him on the T), my jacket, my boots, my pants, and him. I picked him up and apologized profusely, asking the employee where I could find the styptic powder. Immediately he called over another employee, and she brought me right to it, and then ran into the back room for a damp towel. She helped me apply it to my dog’s bleeding nail, refused to allow me to clean up the blood trail, and then made sure he was doing OK after I applied the styptic powder. She was so caring and considerate — nicer than my vet’s office even. She then showed me where the brand of food I wanted was, and carried it to the register for me as I was still carrying my dog and holding the towel around his paw. I thanked her profusely and asked the other employee to please let the store manager know how great she was, and he said she IS the store manager — Christina. I’m going to write a letter to corporate because I know chains like Petco get a lot of negative press, and also because no one writes letters except to complain anymore. I was shocked at how much I paid for the same food I can get for much less at the other, smaller pet store chain in Brighton, but the customer service and genuine care for my injured pup made it worth it.
By the way — he’s totally fine today!

Really great place. I end up spending so much here. Good selection, nice employees, they love my dog and tell me to bring him in– and they always give him treats which he loves. He always tries to get to stop there when we walk nearby.
I love their selection of holiday items too. So cute! They always display them right in front too so I’m tempted to buy all the halloween and christmas toys. Ugh. But so cute.
A bit expensive. But overall, such a great store.

Love this location. Decent selection given the size of the store. Absolutely love their staff. They are knowledgeable true animal lovers and my pup always enjoys a trip to visit his ‘Petco Pals!’

I adore this store. When I come in, I’m greeted by some of the nicest employees ever. I always joke about my cats being spoiled, and they’re totally on the same page as me. I needed suggestions for cat food for my picky guys, and I found a couple things that they freak out over. No grain or other gross bi products, and a great price for what it is! They have a lot of nice toys as well, and pet beds that my cats share (unless one decides to sit on another… Bigger one next purchase haha)
It’s a little expensive, but totally worth it. My cats are spoiled, so I can’t help visiting since it’s near an area that I frequent.
Oh yeah — I had some issues with the reward program not attaching to my phone number. I would recommend getting the keychain /​card version and sticking with it. Not a big deal.

This place has great service and I love the selection. We’ve been here since Day 1 after getting two kittens, and despite it being a bit pricy, we come here regularly to stock up on food and supplies. The staff is really helpful and nice.
If you adopt, make sure to bring in your paperwork and they will give you a booklet of coupons. It’s also worth it to sign up for the loyalty card.

The only negative I have about this place is how much I end up spending each time. I just adopted a 8-​month old maltese about a month ago. Gia had not been well socialized and I was about to lose my mind trying to quell the barking and aggression towards strangers (and roommates). I just finished my third training session with Dani and it has been a God send. She has provided great tools, tricks, and plans for helping Gia. The turn around in her behavior in such a short amount of time has been amazing. I would highly recommend the classes for anyone having difficulties.
Additionally, they are always well stocked, and I never walk out of there empty handed. The staff is always extremely pleasant and friendly. They can clearly interact with humans as well as animals which I don’t always experience at pet stores.

This place is my favorite pet store! The employees are amazing, nice, humble, and know what they are doing! I shop here and also took my pomeranian to puppy classes with heather. Heather is awesome and so is dani, they are both my favs! Everyone else is really great too though! I ask a lot of questions and they are always nice and patient with my over protective mommy worries. I recommend this store for everything! Love them. Ps. Puppy play time could be in a little bigger area but it is such a great thing to experience with your dog!

By the pound treat bar. Fill it up and pick what you want, they weigh it and you go home with a baggie of mixed treats on the cheap… Great if you have a new pup and are not sure which kind they prefer…

I like this place. The staff are so nice and helpful. I will definitely keep going back here for my cat’s food!

Our dog just got out of a pretty traumatizing (for both her and us) surgery. We needed to get a new crate for her, which, of course means we got the wrong size. In the frantic scrambling to safegaurd our home, we lost the receipt. So we brought it back and received the best customer service, ever. Where my fiancé was fearing rejection about the return/​exchange, she found empathy and help. Thanks, Heather, for your kindness. We’ll be back soon.

This is our go-​to pet store! They’ve watched my puppy grow here, always greeting him with treats and love, and Sharon the trainer teaches a fantastic puppy training class. We are here at least once a week!!! Petco Rewards program always earns us multiple $ 5 coupons, which offset our penchant for severely spoiling our furry kids :)

This place is SO expensive. Everything I looked at for my cats, I’ve seen elsewhere for at least $ 30 less somewhere else. Cat trees, condos, etc., in particular were really overpriced.
The staff is friendly and helpful, and there’s plenty of choices in the store. It’s geared slightly more towards dogs rather than cats, which makes sense — even though I’m a cat person, I get that there’s a bigger market for dog stuff. I did come out with two toys that my cats of course have no interest in, but that’s hardly the fault of Petco!

Every staff member that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting were just absolutely wonderful, no doubt or hesitation in making that statement. At PETCO Unleashed, they truly are all about the pets that come into the store and giving way above-​par customer service.
They’re knowledgeable: they know the brands inside and out. If you come in looking for specific foods without certain ingredients because your pet has a food allergy, they will steer your food journey safely and wisely. If you come in looking for advice or some sort of consultation of some kind, they will eagerly and kindly listen to you and offer their utmost professional and caring advice to help you. If you come in just because you were passing by on a super hot day and was hoping to grab some water for your pet, they’ll have a water fountain for you and your furry friend waiting for you inside.
If you couldn’t tell already, I’m pretty much in love with this store. Aside from their great selections of non-​filler, healthier foods, toys, apparel, medicine, treats, stain and odor removals, and much much more, this specific store becomes even more awesome because they have an event calendar for you to bring your pets by, socialize with others and their pets, and grab some refreshments all the while! I’ve brought my 7lb and 55lb dogs to their yappy social hour on Fridays, and with toys and treats, everyone had a great time!
It seems that there’s always something special going on at PETCO Unleashed, so even if you may not be able to head on down to visit, the awesome staff members will be there when you and your friend are ready to come in!

I stop in here fairly regularly to pick up food, bully sticks and toys for my Boston Terrier. Although Petco is closer to where we live, my dog Abby is absolutely petrified to go in there but seems perfectly happy to visit Unleashed. Also, the regular Petco doesn’t carry her food (Nutro Ultra adult dog) but Unleashed does.
All of our interactions here have been positive; as many other reviewers have noted, the staff are all quite friendly and helpful. I do wish the store was a bit less expensive; this week I noticed Abby was low on food and I remembered I had a Petco Pals coupon for 10% off, based on my Pals points. Unfortunately it expired last week but I hoped that since the coupon is based on my preexisting points that they would still honor it. Unfortunately they wouldn’t; I understand that I should have noticed the expiration date, but as a loyal Petco customer for 3 years I thought they might put customer service over a barcode. I’ll still return, but that experience keeps my review at 4 stars rather than 5.

My husband and I went to Unleashed yesterday to pick up some doggy bags for our dog and the dog we are fostering.
One of the employees, Charles, came up and tried to offer our foster dog, Beethoven, a treat if he sat. He continued to say «sit» even after I explained that Beethoven was DEAF and could not hear him. When he finally understood he walked over to my dog, asked if he could hear, and told him to sit and then treated him. He went back and handed Beethoven a treat.
He then looked at me and said «oh so you can’t train him?» and I explained that, yes, we will be trainining him using sign language – however we just picked him up the day before and we are waiting for him to get a little more acclimated.
Needless to say, I was a little annoyed and offended with is ignorance. He then handed us some coupons to help out since we are fostering.
That changed our opinions a bit, more positive.
Then at checkout a woman in a wheelchair was attempting to leave the store and called for help as the main door was not accessible and she could not open it on her own. The same employee, Charles, who was checking me out, started shaking his head and making comments about how this woman is the worst customer they have and she’s absolutely rude and awful. It was clear that Charles was not going to go over and open the door for the woman, neither was any of the other employees, so my husband (who also happens to work closely with Easter Seals and other disability organizations) opened the door for the woman, who promptly thanked him and commented on how it should have been an employee – and she’s right!
Charles continued talking about her and even said «hey, I know your life sucks outside of here, but c’mon…» my husband and I were just floored.
Putting aside the fact that the ADA requires all public businesses to be accessible, the fact that this employee was negatively commenting about customers to other customers is just completely inappropriate. I don’t know what gave him the impression that we would be on his side and think this woman was being unreasonable. If she could have opened the door herself, she would have.
I usually really like Petco, but this experience has absolutely soured me on them. I wrote a complaint to the corporate office and their response was ²⁄₃ automated and ¹⁄₃ actual response – I could see the difference in the font.
I will never go here again.
**Edit: the manager just called and followed up with me. She did and said what a good manager would. Even offered us what sounded like a bribe if we came back in and introduced ourselves to her.

I went back today and the Animal Rescue league was there with cute doggies to adopt and suggestions of things you could purchase to donate.
all of the associates were upbeat and loved my doggie — I bought a few things for the ARL and signed up for emails and swag. yay!

I love this place! First of all, the customer service is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are not lazy or rude.
The selection is great for your basic needs. No need to make trek to Petco.
The nearest local pet store to Unleashed did not fit my style at all. It smelled, had no service, was dirty, and had limited selection. I’m happy that Unleashed has arrived!
