I love going to this Curves! It is a woman’s only gym that uses a machine circuit for strength training and cardio workout. The staff, called coaches, is super supportive and helpful. They are always available to answer questions, help with doing the machines properly to maximize your workout, or to offer encouragement. Frequently there is a coach in the circuit to encourage and help make the most of your workout.

Curves is a franchised womens-only circuit workout that focuses on the muscle groups used in everyday tasks. Twelve machines. 30 seconds on a machine, 30 seconds recovery time where you move(however you’re inclined) to dance music set at 150 beats per minute. Each 30 seconds an electronic voice cues you to «move to the next station.» The complete circuit only takes 30 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes stretch time on their stretch station. A great way to sneak exercise into your day! The median age of members is 55+ and they come in ALL shapes and sizes; very non-intimidating! Curves offers a «coached» experience that helps you set, track, and maintain goals($ 60 a month, but covered by most insurances), or you can just join($ 44 monthly). The coaches are friendly and helpful to everyone. Curves offers different themed workouts: Jillian Michaels(task-mistress boot camp style), integrated Zumba, etc., but none of that is mandatory and you can always do your own thing whenever you are there. The place is clean, but it is small(in comparison to most gyms), so it took me a little bit to «dance like no one’s watching.» :-) You can make the experience as social or non-social as you want.
