This place is incredible. To start they support local artists, have friendly servers that always greeting you when you step in. They have a secret large size coffee, it’s a super size. Plus don’t forget their ultimate delishness of bagels(p.s. they are New York Style), when asking a friend who is from NY what they thought, they mentioned that they are the closest to the real thing. The bagels are made fresh everyday. I always get the cheesy bagel, they also have chive cream cheese if you’re not wanting the regular cream cheese. Sad thing though, we’re waiting for them to re-open as they will be temporarily closed for a bit.

Amazing little place in Beaverton. Great food, great drinks, amazing service, and a very cool nerdy theme. You’ll find a lot of things like Doctor Who, Sailor Moon, Marvel, DC, Lego, and much much more. I come here frequently and it’s great.

This place is the bomb! Great food great coffee, wonderful peoples and a bagel that is like dragons breath!!! Lunch specials, daily specialty drinks and the TARDIS back door make this one of the most awesome places to chill out and relax, plus few WIFI.

Been here twice now and this place is awesome! The drinks are great and the customer service is amazing. My daughter loves the hot cocoa and with the toasted marshmallow whipped cream. I just had the jalapeño bagel for the first time today and it was superb. We will definitely be frequenting this place on the weekends.

I’ve only been here twice but I am already hooked. The customer service is some of the best I have ever had, and the drinks I have had are wonderful. I am a frequent Starbucks-goer. I have been hitting up more local places lately to try and support small businesses. And let me tell you, Java Mama is a lot better than the ten-million Starbucks locations near 185th/Cornell/Walker. First of all: soy, rice, AND almond milk! I do not drink milk but my body doesn’t appreciate soy in large quantities, so this place is like a godsend for me. Most other coffee shops only offer soy(if that!) and I am so impressed with their vegan and health-conscious options. What really drew me in was the seemingly hundreds of different flavors in the back. Tiramisu coffee? Watermelon mocha? Cupcake latte? The options are endless! I know I get tired of ordering a toffee nut whatever at Starbucks all the time, and I get weird looks when I order anything out of the ordinary. But at Java Mama you could probably order a strawberry-blueberry-raspberry-mint-chocolate-breve latte and they’d make it right up(definitely not saying that would taste good though)! I love the adventurous attitude regarding their flavors. Both times I’ve been I have ordered the lavender latte. I LOVE lavender anything. I have ordered it in bulk online just to have for my tea and baking. And let me tell you, these are heaven. Lavender latte with rice milk, size 20 oz, hardly over $ 4. Incredible. And the atmosphere is so inviting. It’s not hustling and bustling and there’s no snooty attitude. I often get very anxious in social situations and NEVER sit in a coffee shop to drink, but today I found myself enjoying my lovely flower coffee at a table in Java Mama, and everyone who came in was in such a pleasant mood and there was virtually no anxiety for me at all. — So thank you for that. I will be returning, likely with friends, many times and I will have a safe haven to relax with a very nice and personalized cup of java. :)

A couple months ago, I would have given Java Mama 5 stars. Recently, whenever I go in, there is someone working who always seems as if she’s being inconvenienced by my questions. Keep in mind, I have worked in food service/customer service for 7 years so I try my best to not be irritating or ask for too many Changes in an order. They have the best homemade corned beef for their Reuben sandwich, and in the last two months, they have only had it once out of the 6 or so times that I have been in. Every time I ask if they have it, the person behind the counter looks pissed off, so recently I have stopped going. It’s a bummer because this was one of my go to places that I would rave to friends about. This place has excellent food, and usually the customer service is phenomenal. It used to be that the guys who worked there remembered everyone’s name and it kind of had a small town feel. Now, not so much. It’s a shame…

I hate to say it but I have never been to Java Mama before today, boy was I missing out. I was nearby and stopped in to see what the fuss was about. One of my fellow Unilocalers loves this joint! It was the afternoon so I purchased a Bagel for tomorrow along with a Cheese and Sausage Breakfast turnover. Breakfast for tomorrow, done! I picked up a bowl of Tomato Bisque Soup(or Cream of Tomato) for dinner, my god it was the best tasting soup I have had in a long time, it has a hint of citrus. I would love the recipe! I purchased a Lemon Bar as well. I am a connoisseur of Lemon Bars, my Step Mom made Lemon Bars from scratch which would make you swoon, Java Mama’s Lemon Bars are at least as good as hers if not better, MYGAWD! The Bagel is obviously homemade and was quite good, and authentic, boiled and baked, the turnover was very flavorful, I could have eaten two! YUMYUMYUM. I noticed they have Breakfast Sammies along with regular sandwiches available! I cannot wait to try the Reuben and the Turkey.

Why isn’t this in Washington?! You PDX kids are spoiled with a place this good sitting in your midst. Not only was the coffee delightfully smooth, but the choice between rice and soy milk was refreshing, to say the least. But the thing that has made me a huge fan of this place are the theme menus. Not only was I able to order an Avengers themed drink, I was able to come back the next day and order a Sailor Moon themed drink. I was nerding so hard I could barely contain my geeky excitement! That said, I highly recommend the Thor(butter rum latte) with soy, and the Luna(lavender latte) with rice milk. Both were delicious, and nicely complimented my breakfast sandwich on a homemade bagel each trip. Definitely coming back when I’m visiting my lovely friend who introduced me to them!

I will always take the extra time to walk from my office to come here instead of going to the café in my office building. The food is made in-house(even the bagels– cheddar & bacon is the best), they have a drink syrup list beyond imagine & they always have killer daily specials. The staff is friendly & so worth the extra few minutes over going thru a drive thru(aside from everything being light years better). The gang that run Java Mama is beyond compare. If you do not go there you are missing out!!! I transferred to another division within my company to downtown Portland but I fully intend on making a special trip out to swing by. I’ll miss you Mama!

Great coffee and awesome selection of bagels and baked goods. My personal favorites include poppyseed cheese Sundried Tomato and basil The cheese bagel tastes like pizza. A great place around the area for some yummy home baked goods. The barista is very friendly and they have a huge list of milkshakes and lattes they can make for you. I love the Mexican mocha it’s great if you are a cinnamon lover like me. Very flavorful and not overly sweet.

Love Java Mama. Don’t write a ton of reviews, but this one is a must for coffee and bagels/pastries. I have known Rick for almost 10-years and would follow him and his cooking anywhere. Fresh roasted beans, americano and a bagel make me a happy guy. You have to go!

PSA: This one is a love-fest review… but they’re so worth it. Caffinate with confidence at Java Mama — this place has heart & soul! I’ve been taking my sons & daughter there for years and am nothing but a total sinner for not giving owners Rick and Ananda more Unilocal love in the past. If you’re on the West side looking for a great spot to work, chill, meet up or just recharge your AM, you’re really looking for this spot. Food? You’ll not find better bagels in P-town… these are house-made boiled bliss. Beans? They roast ‘em with artisan love. Don’t miss the Michelangelo roast. Staff? Rick’s blended a great team intent on the extermination of apathetic service. Keep the dream alive JM people. Recommendation: Go. Take a friend. They’ll be thankful.

I’m always looking for new coffee shops to try out since I do get sick of Starbucks. Unfortunately I didn’t like their coffee too much because it was too acidic for me and would probably stick with Starbucks. It’s a cute place though and the employees are super nice!

Thumbs up to Java Mama! There are just one too many Starbucks in the area and it’s so hard to find these one-off coffee shops that not only have good coffee, but a good staff and atmosphere as well! I came in one afternoon and was having a hard time choosing a flavor to add in my latte — they have so many! They guy at the counter suggested a few and voila coffee awesomeness! Plus, he didn’t even charge me for the syrup! The flavor of the coffee was perfection; made just correctly. Granted it’s no Stumptown — but thank Jebus it’s not that Starbucks burnt flavor. I have yet to try any pasteries or sandwiches but what they offer all looked good!

5 Stars for the coffee and service. 3.5 stars for my breakfast. It’s a decent little breakfast and lunch spot. The coffee is awesome, and they have a crapload of flavor syrups. I did try the coffee black once(I usually HATE black coffee) and it was very good. Usually, I have so much creamer/sugar in my coffee that it’s almost as pale as I am, but the flavor is there and the beans are not burnt. My one recommendation is for them to start carrying different bagels. I’m not a huge fan, and they don’t make for a very good bagel sandwich.

Took a different route than normal to work today due to traffic, saw this place and thought I recalled seeing good reviews so I stopped. I was in a hurry so I didn’t actually check, or I would have seen the Unilocal special! Totally getting that next time. Anyway, friendly service and a fabulous coffee! The lunch deals looked pretty good too, and I noticed after ordering that they have day old baked goods for just a dollar! Nice. My order took a little more time that usual, but that’s a *good* thing — the barista did everything fresh for me, like it should be.(I hate when you roll up to a coffee place, order an espresso drink, and it’s ready in 30 seconds. I gotta wonder how long everything’s been just sitting there, you know?) Despite a terrible night of sleep, my toes are tappin’ a few hours later so that’s a good sign for me… maybe I will go that way to work more often.
