This is such a lovely and peaceful cemetery that is well maintained and has a lot of history to it. My husband is buried there, and one day it will be my final resting place also. Some of the head stones date back to the 1800’s and several generations of families are buried there. It’s unlike any other cemetery that I have ever seen.

As I’ve always said, you can tell how a community feels about it’s inhabitants by the way the local cemetery is kept… and this little jewel is taken care of, clean, safe and obviously much beloved by the families of those buried there. It is on a hill, overlooking Alpine and El Cajon and like many cemeteries I’ve visited, peaceful and quiet. Surprisingly, there are no gates that are locked to keep people out at night, but there were also no signs of vandalism or loitering anywhere, so maybe they weren’t necessary. There are many little memorials scattered about in honor to many of the folks buried there and of course there are a couple of sections dedicated just to babies and children and some very old tombstones. It also looks as though there is an area for the very poor or those who could not afford a marker. Near the flagpole is a beautiful granite or marble bench with a plaque dedicated to a lady named Betty who was a Sgt Mgr in the USMC… very cool. «She was a friend to all» I believe it said. There are plenty of plants, flowers and shrubs but very little grass if any. Most of the ground is dry, packed dirt and it makes sense… why would you waste water in one of the driest places in San Diego? Many of the graves have personal mementoes left by family members and it makes for a sad by still very serene and honorable place. Rest in peace folks. PS. The night we went back, it was dry, there was a full moon and no wind. I took several pics in the dark just on the chance that I might catch some orbs… and I did. Awesome!
