This is a great place to meet local artists, buy art and have a great time. Check out their Art Bender weekends. The Friday art reception starts at 7 pm and is usually only $ 5.00! There is live music from ~7 pm to about midnight and on the sunday of the Art Bender weekend they cook up some great brunch items.

A nice spot that is artists-friendly. Casual indoor/outdoor gallery with entertainment and works by local artists. If you love everything eclectic in life, check out one of the events here and you will feel as though you’ve found your nirvana.

Overall a wonderful experience, I have had a great time here. Relevance: I have been to this gallery as a viewer, a buyer, an art show roadie(for my friend’s show, twice), and as a performer. Venue: sweet atmosphere, down-to-earth crowd MGMT: The management has been upfront, friendly, accommodating, and awesome. The prices for exhibit space are reasonable. Some artists I’ve seen sold quite a few pieces & keep coming. Many artists are more interested in being part of a community they resonate with and having an opportunity to show their work for family and friends. Large Groups: I have invited friends and family here to celebrate art and music. I have had one of my best birthday parties here. There is also a western bar right next door for after-hours drinks, which was perfect since we had about twenty people. Music: The space is intimate. The dj is solid and the bands are just as good, usually. It’s a nice space, especially if you just love music and want to play for a good crowd.

Every time I come here, I’m amazed! From the white tiger observing you from the roof to the magnifying glass ceiling, everything is super cool. Whenever they have an Art Bender weekend, check that shiz out. Eating delicious bbq while looking at awesome pieces of art? COMEON. This place is mysterious at night and magical during the day. Each time I walk through the gallery, I find some new little detail that makes me smile.

Keep this weekend open if you can… The Art Bender they call it… Bring one bring all… It’s going to be the bomb diggitty. Its a great little independent gallery i used to show at. they offer a once a year extravaganza romp. Friday night is the official opening under the stars and xmas lights. Saturday is a full frontal bbq potluck and PBR assault complete with makeshift wine bar, bonfires, dj’s, outdoor lallygagging in the atrium with art hanging from every tree and lean-to available. Denizens come out of the woodwork to add to the understatedly eclectic crowd that frequents this oddly aesthetic oasis. Sangira and and overwhelming amount of votive candle lighiting bleed you into the night, and hopefully the next morn for an entirely famous sunday bloody mary chamagne brunch… It’s quite amazing actually. and quite free for all… Think Saturday… but i should be there for most of the weekend. if i survive…

when i come here i forget how close i am to los angeles. this amazing little indoor/outdoor gallery is located atop lake blvd, right smack against a mountain. every four months the gallery has an open call for artists in all media, from all over the los angeles area to come out and show their work for a reasonable hanging fee. the gallery then sits back and lets the artist take 100% of all sales. now, to me, this is freaken awesome. it’s close to impossible to find a gallery that doesn’t take a percentage of sales, which is usually the cause for all those outrageous price tags on fine art. what i love about the people who run this gallery is they are all so welcoming. i’ve shown here about 4 times now and they are always so supportive towards everyone who shows, whether you’re a beginner or already somewhat established as an artist. the artbender weekends are these 4 day events held every 3 months and include two opening nights, huge parties with tons of food [made in the outdoor kitchen!], drinks, belly dancers, blue grass bands and a wide array of interesting people. they also host an all day bbq during the alta dena art walk that takes place on a saturday, and on that sunday they have a sunday brunch with mimosas and bloody marys to wrap up the weekend. sunday is also when artists pick up their remaining work and collect their earnings. the gallery allows you to bring outside beverages, but also serves sangria, keg beer [they’ve had both pabst and a ‘winter ale’ when i’ve been] and some mixed drinks for a minimal charge. oh, mr. mcginty alerted me of their recent non-profit status, so they gladly take donations over the suggested price. :) the gallery also hosts a sunday salon once a month from noon to dusk. more info on that at the website. if you’re coming up lake from the 210, turn left on mariposa and try to find a spot there. omg beware: not inside the gallery, but on the walk there on mariposa street there are overgrown black widows lurking along the store front walls at night… low to the ground. srsly. some of the biggest i’ve ever seen. these little ladies are not fucking around. check the pics, the space is perfection~! the next show is scheduled for march 2009 and then every three months thereafter. ^_^
