Came in and got a bowl of gumbo and red beans and rice. Food was great, service was awesome and the beer selection was amazing. Definitely worth the the stop.

I order the Classic burger … Well I’ve had better(Culvers) no season bland Just regular burger nothing special Will not return here«Overpriced» food! I noticed on the menu they had fries with/Organic ketchup 78 priced @ $ 5NOLONGER Available …(ketchup) Honestly I think they need to changed the price on that if the Ketchup is no longer available! They where your regular seasoned fries which I don’t care for no matter where I’m dining…

Russ is one of the best restauranteurs in America. You’ve got to ask to see Russ. 60 beers is a good start. 8 cheeseburgers is a good middle. Service staff that makes the chains blush with embarrassment is the closing of the perfect circle. Now if Russ the owner had a religious call we’d all be going to heaven.

OK food and service. Music was way too loud. I couldn’t hear people at my table. Won’t be back.

Was not impressed. Service was a bit slow. Never got more ice in my water refill so was luke warm at best. I ordered the Portobello sandwich, wasn’t what was on the menu and didn’t come with the toppings listed. He ordered the Beef Debris… nothing more than unseasoned beef on bread. The restrooms were dirty; the men’s was covered in urine. Not a place we’ll be going back to.

If I’m being completely honest, I know they’ve had a couple bumps along the way, but now that they’ve been open for over a year, I can truly say my experience is consistently excellent. Great beer, delicious food, terrific service, and a relaxed atmosphere. If you can’t be happy here, it might just be you that’s the problem.

I must say, I didn’t expect much going here, but that changed immediately when I stepped inside. The décor and setup are beautiful, great wood work, decorations, and sitting placement, with a nice little stage. And I’m very excited about the plans they have for the patio area. The beer selection could use a little bit of work, but it’s a really great selection with plenty of variety. The staff was wonderful, especially the sweet lady serving the table I was at. She was amiable and funny.

I thought the food was absolutely delicious; I got a chicken pot pie. However, I will not be returning. We called in advance to reserve a table and were told they do not take reservations. We asked how long the wait would be for a party of ten, and the lady said«Well it’s pretty busy so you’ll be waiting a bit if you have to come tonight.» Well, it was my birthday dinner, so yes we HAD to come tonight. She was quite rude. When we arrived, it was not«pretty busy,» not even for a Thursday night. They quickly dragged some tables together and we sat down immediately. There was a giveaway sponsored by Dogfish, so they were playing music on a record player with two speakers spread far out. What we quickly realized upon sitting, is that we were right next to a speaker, and it was LOUD. The cracks and pops of the vinyl were startling, and we could barely hear each other talk without shouting. The waitress took our beer orders and I asked if she could move the speaker, letting her know it was my birthday and it would really mean a lot. She said she would speak to the sound guy. She also brought by a glass with birthday cake flavored vodka, unexpected and appreciated. However, the speaker didn’t get moved for quite a long time. We actually had to ask 6 times for her to half-heartedly turn it an couple inches, only projecting the music farther down the table. Eventually the sound guy came and turned it down. But we had to ask SIX times! Apparently, many of the taps had run out. My brother in law ordered 4 beers before he finally got one, an hour later. Others around the table had similar issues, but an HOUR wait for a beer? That’s outrageous even for food! Which also took over an hour to arrive. I wouldn’t have minded the wait had we been able to speak to each other, but shouting at each other got old pretty quick. Food was good, but the woman who brought it out was absolutely rude, calling my mother«great-grandma» and getting sassy when we couldn’t hear her announce the dishes. The waitress didn’t come to check on us once until we had finished our meal, and we wanted to get our checks and get out. Upon looking at the check, I realized I was supposed to get a salad with my meal, and when she came to get the check I asked her if I could take it to go. Took another 20 minutes for the salad to come. Utterly horrible experience.

Had a great date night here last month with the wife and wanted to get around to writing a review. Firstly I must say the root beer draft beer is ridiculously good and after two of them down I was glad that my wife was driving. Th appetizer were unique and very well presented and the entrees the same. The burgers and sandwiches are well made and have several great options for sides. The owner is a great guy and if you’ve ever been to Bossanovas then your familiar with him and his family friendly way of making everyone feel at home. Great restaurant and owner we will make it back down there as much as possible.

We have given this place at least 3 chances to win us over and have failed every time. Each time we have gone we get completely terrible service. We like the beer selection but when you have overpriced food and terrible service, there are other places to go that have a decent beer selection with more reasonable food prices where you won’t get ignored by the wait staff. We will not be back again.

My husband and I have been to Elijah P’s a handful of times. Twice we had good burgers. Twice his burger was inedible. They ask if we want our burgers«pink or no pink.» I’d prefer to be asked how I want my burger cooked, as I prefer medium. However, when given the simple option of pink or no pink and we request pink, we expect pink. Today we asked for pink, but both got no pink. Mine was still juicy, so I ate it. But this was his second time getting no pink and dry and he sent it back. We had high hopes for this place, but will not be going back any time soon. This is very disappointing.

Classy bar lounge in downtown Alton. The woodwork and the ceilings added a spectacular atmosphere to the restaurant. I went here on a Saturday afternoon with my mom. We shared the Arugala salad without the prosciutto; it had figs, toasted walnuts, and mozzarella cheese with a vinaigrette dressing. Then we shared the roasted veggie sandwich melt on a hoagie with onion rings. Wow the sandwich and onion rings were amazing. Since there isn’t a lot of vegetarian options in Alton, this is my new favorite restaurant. I gave it a four out of five because they didn’t have 3 of their sandwiches available, but they had substitutions. Also, this is a weird critique, but the tables were short, like it felt like I was bending over to eat. I am told the burgers are awesome. I can’t wait to go back with my girlfriends to try all the beers and wine… there were so many!

It’s really difficult to write a review when the beers are so good and the food was for the most part, bleh. We are foodies at my house so when my 6 and my 8 year old order gumbo off the menu it better be as good as we cook at home. Well, this was definitely not the case. The gumbo was pretty much some Cajun gravy with one piece of sausage and one piece of shrimp with a pile of rice on top that both of my kids got rid of as soon as we got home(know what I’m sayin). My $ 7 arugula salad was ok but geez for just getting some greens they could’ve upped the portions a bit. My husband had a burger that was good so maybe that would’ve been the route to go. Stick to the beers and burgers, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be coming back.

We stopped in on a sunny Sunday, after a river road drive. Wow, what a big place, and what a wide hallway between the front dining room and the back patio. I believe we heard it once was a furniture store. I imagine the real estate is a little less expensive than other Metro East locations like Edwardsville or O’Fallon. Anyway, I liked the space, and thought it probably would feel pleasantly dim and cool on a hot summer day. The food was excellent! I had a stuffed Portobello«burger,» This meatless thing was 5″ high: cheddar-and-muenster-stuffed portobello w/tomato, arugula, & mayo. The Mac had 3 cheeses. Wow. So mushroomy-and-melty-cheese good that I could almost imagine becoming vegetarian permanently. Therese H. had a naked BaconBrieBurger and Cucumber Salad. Also Excelllent! Yes, the Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale(also excellent) might have influenced my opinion upward a star, Michigan micro-brews usually do. But, really, if this place were in my neighborhood, then I’d be a regular.

This is a must stop place when you are in Alton. It had not been open very long, the hours are 4 pm until 12. The space is very open and warm. Tons of seating at the bar, a few bar tables and plenty of tables in the front space. The restroom are in the middle of the building along with the kitchen and if that is not enough they have a beautiful patio area. It will be where I sit next time I go. The servers are dressed in plaid shirts and jeans, kinda cute. They seriously have 60 beers on tap. I have become a fan of the porters and they let me sample two of them and I was pleased with my chose. My business connection had a glass of scotch and he commented that he was pleasantly surprised with the selection. We had a short business meeting and then ordered the chicken tenders. They were hand breaded and look like they had been cut from the bone. They tasted like they were pan friend and not deep friend, very little trace of grease on the plate. They tasted like the chicken that my grandmother made. I cant wait to go back here and try more of the food menu. My business person really enjoyed himself and he is always looking to take clients and friends to new places. Two happy customers.

We passed up another place because they didn’t take credit/debit cards, drove about 8 minutes away and landed here. We were looking for a good burger and I definitely think we found it! I had the BBQ burger. It typically comes topped with pepper jack cheese, bacon and an onion ring. I switched out the pepper jack in favor of cheddar. It comes with a side. My husband got the Cajun catfish sandwich and onion rings, so I decided to get fries so we could split the sides. My kids got the Croquettes and we couldn’t pass up fried pickles as a app. The pickles were delicious, a little tart and still crunchy. We all nibbled on the croquettes and they were absolutely amazing. Crunchy on the outside and all cheesy taters on the inside. My burger was cooked just right. The BBQ sauce was sweet but just right on the spice. The fries were average but the onion rings made up for that. My husband enjoyed the catfish but he didn’t rave about it. When we asked about the dessert selection, as the menu prompts, we were told that there wasn’t any. How disappointing. The server seemed to be one of those kind of shy girls that you’re not really sure if she’s stuck up or shy. She wasn’t my husband’s favorite, but she wasn’t awful either. The owner did come by and introduce himself, which was very nice. To summarize, encourage the wait staff to be more friendly and warm and, for crying out loud, get some dessert!

Saw it during construction and wanted to check the place out. Sat out on the beautiful patio. Great beer selection, I like session IPAs and my fiancé likes sours, we were both happy. We just had a couple apps, the fried pickles and the onion rings. Both were superb. I’m typically a bigger fan of battered onion rings but the panko breaking was super crispy. The pickles were delicious, not overly briny but a very pleasant tart/sweet. The staff was incredibly friendly. The girl that showed us to our table thoughtfully provided everything we could’ve hoped for. Our server was super sweet. Wish we could’ve tried some other dishes but we had dinner plans, the rest of the menu looked fantastic though.

This place is by far the best bar/restaurant in Alton. I usually don’t come to Alton to eat/drink due to quality, and the fact I’m in St Louis and Chicago frequently. I work down the street and decided to buy a coworker dinner. Two shots of Patron tequila in our margaritas. The blue cheese dressing was home made. The burger was juicy, just right size, and made me lick my fingers. I NEVER lick my fingers. They haul in «78 Red» ketchup from Chicago :) Great patio. Excellent service Laura! I wanted to go back tonight with my family, except they aren’t open Mondays :(

Discovered Elijah P’s by accident, and glad we did! Open for just two months they seem to have their act together. 60 beers on tap for the beer connoisseur. Great atmosphere, polite wait staff. Outside seating available. Appears to be indoor and outdoor stages for bands/entertainment. Great smells emanate from the kitchen. Food was cooked as ordered and very tasty. Excellent overall experience! We will be back and will bring friends and family!

The beer selection is extensive. I don’t drink beer, at least not seriously so that was not a draw. I had a friend from out of town visit and I wanted to show them what Alton had to offer. I ordered the burger and my dining companion ordered the beef sandwich. I ordered my burger well done. My burger arrived medium well. I sent it back. It took a long time for our food to arrive in the first place, since what we ordered was pretty simple. Other tables who arrived after we did, received their food before we did. It took forever for the 2nd fully cooked burger to arrive. The waitress was nice and offered a drink on the house which I declined because at this point, my dinner companion was finished with their meal and it would have been rude to make them sit even longer just so I could have a free drink. If she offered the drink when I first sent my burger back and had to watch my friend finish their entire meal before my correct burger arrived, I would have accepted. The taste of the burgers are excellent. They are well seasoned. My dining companion enjoyed their meal and said the beef sandwich was excellent. The fries are very good and 78 red Ketchup really compliments them. It is nice to see a high quality natural local product like 78 Red Ketchup at a restaurant. The service could use some work. They need to use a meat thermometer on the burgers. The food is delicious and high quality ingredients, and the prices are reasonable. I will be back, and hopefully they have the kinks worked out.
