We normally love this place simply because of the atmosphere, wine selection, and the food. Even though it’s not the best Greek, occasionally they are excellent. But this one time… I ordered the Moussaka which was to have Bechamel sauce on it. The waitress was super. This was back in OCT2015, Im just now getting around to this review. The food came out and I took a couple bites and noticed just how dry it was. Where was the bechamel sauce? I asked her, she got this look on her face like, «oh crap he may know what he’s talking about.» She leaves then comes back after 5 mins, with a ramekin of tzatziki sauce. I said this is not bechamel sauce and her response was that the owner’s mother always makes it, but they ran out and none of the three cooks know how to make it. At that point I just gave up and ate the food, but told her that was the stupidest thing I ever heard, no offense to her and she agreed that the head chef was an Army trained cook they called Sarge. I was, well, I out rank E5 Sergeant as an E7 Chief in the USN. But by then he had already blown out of there and was gone. Please Jimmy’s, get a cook who knows how to make everything on the menu. It’s just common sense. You may get someone in your restaurant who may know a thing or two about food. To top it off, by the time the waitress came back to the table to tell me the story of the ignorant chef, I had googled bechamel sauce and showed it to her. Not only were the chefs ignorant but they were lazy and thought the public wouldn’t know the difference. Bechamel sauce is not complicated, it’s around 4 ingredients that anyone has in their kitchen.

This place was ok. But that’s really all I can give it. All I got was a gyro I expected that to be their mainstay, and I was underwhelmed. Not bad, just disappointed.

You would think this place was a brothel, the way were falling all over man. Yes he is good looking but have never had anyone so blatantly flirt with him right in front of me. We have been together 10 years and I am not jealous and it is one thing to be Flirty but to grab him a beer when it is half full and not even ask me if I would like more wine when my glass was empty. They kept taking my plate before I was done just to come over to gawk. I don’t know if they thought he was my brother or what but it was very unprofessional. The owner needs to put a Leach on these B****** in heat! We also brought a piece of cheesecake home to share halfway through eating it we found a two hairs on it. I will post a pic after writing a few more reviews on this place. If this is the owner is reading this, the only girl that was very nice and not drooling over my man was a pretty young blonde

I’ve visited this place a few times and it’s not bad. Certainly there is better Greek food in the St. Louis area but in a pinch, this is okay. I tried the crab cakes for the first time and they were fairly flavorful but were softer than what I believe makes a good crab cake. The gyro seems to have gotten smaller over time and is –again– okay but doesn’t knock your socks off. Worth a visit if your in Alton and looking for Greek food but if you’re a huge fan of Mediterranean cuisine, you won’t be impressed.

Good news: if the Olga’s in Alton Square closes, there’s still Jimmy’s to reheat you food from Sam’s Club and charge you double for it. Meal: Two apps — calamari and hummus. Nothing is made in-house. Calamari was frozen from a bag, sauce from a can, hummus was also store bought. Pita, too, but they did deep fry it and cover it in some mixture of sugar and Lawry’s seasoning. Gyro plate and gyro shoe — also, nothing fresh there. Pita, meat, and cheese sauce. Tzatziki sauce tasted like pickle relish mixed into yogurt. Desserts: baklava, something they claim the owner’s mother makes. It was mircowaved and covered in caramel sauce(no honey, maybe?). The philo had no cruch and my fork wouldn’t go through it. Service: Our waitress was good. She meant well. But we saw so little of her as it was clear, she was only one working in the entire building. Our dishes were dumped on our table by some slack-jawed expressionless girl who couldn’t look up from the bar to get me silverware until I stood up to get it myself. Then she made a point to mention it to all the other servers, but never apologize. She dumped half our calamari on the floor when she served it, and then showed up 10 minutes later with 7 new pieces. When I asked to sub fries for their greek potatoes, I was told the kitchen was too small from them to sub anything. And, best of all, when the manager came to our table and asked how everything was and I told him the baklava was not good, he told me: «The health department makes us refridgerate it, so we have to microwave it. I’m sure it’s fine. My mother made it yesterday.» He was sure it was fine? No, it was not fine. It was disgusting. He then took my plate and brought another piece, which remained untouched on the table. There’s arrogance and then there is ignorance. Jimmy’s is full of both. The saving grace is they won’t be open long. Two apps, two entrees, two desserts, two coffees: $ 60.

I’ve eaten here 3 times and now. I didn’t experience any of the issues that the others have mentioned. Must have been an off day for the owner. He was nothing but warm and cordial with us the entire time. Our server was lovely, and the food was great every time! I had the Athenian, and I’d recommend it to anybody looking for a safe dish.

Jimmy the Microwaves? Ah, yes, that is a much more appropriate name for this«restaurant». Spare yourself the visit. A trip to Sam’s club frozen food section and a microwave you can create an identical night without the added tip. You could probably do a better job on your own, especially with the saganaki. Jimmy the Microwaves likes to drown it with a double shot and then barely light a flame so your appetizer is essentially cold cheese dipped in alcohol with a delicious frozen cheese piece in the center. Yum… Moral of the story… look into their serving window and count the microwaves used to «cook» your food.

Brought the family to Jimmy the Greek’s tonight and absolutely loved the food and the service. Great atmosphere and the best Gyros I have had. Will definitely be back and will let people know.

Was interested in trying this place. I have been to many Greek restaurants in major cities. I wasn’t expecting to compare this place to say… «Greek Town» in Chicago or anything but I did have some expectations. Disappointed. Very limited menu and only a few true Greek dishes. We both ended up ordering a few beers and 8.95 gyro sandwiches that were mediocre at best. You can get a better gyro at a food stand that’s twice the size and for half the price.

I will NEVER go back. I love Greek food. After reading the menu, it was hard for me to decide between so many seemingly tasty options. The interior was quaint and cozy and warm. My husband enjoyed his steak. This is the extent of the good things I have to say about Jimmy’s. The place was wall-to-wall packed on a Wednesday night at 6 pm. The waitress did not take our order until 7 pm. We did not receive our food until 7:40 pm. Appetizers: we ordered three. Two were burnt and one was incorrect. When replaced, one of the appetizers was literally ice cold. Dinner: we ordered five entrees. Two were incorrect. The only replaced one. Another was absolutely awful. Several people ordered the Grecian potatoes as a side, and NOONE ate these disgusting things. The Greek salad was an utter disappointment. THEKICKER: At the end of our meal, the owner confronted me on returning my meal. He was extremely rude and unprofessional, leaving an even worse taste in my mouth than my atrocious meal did. Rather than apologize gracefully and leaving it at that, he was condescending, implying that I must not know Greek food if I didn’t like my dish. In short, when service is bad AND food is bad, I can be coaxed to give the restaurant a second chance in the future. However, when I am treated like an uncultured peon by the owner himself, you have lost my business forever.

Great resturant and bar. Single malt scotch on the bar and wonderful authentic Greek food. The appetizers are tasty as well; crab cakes are very good. Calamari is done well. Portions aren’t huge but are very satisfying. The owner talked about expanding into the neighboring bar to more table space. We hope he can do this before everyone finds out about this resturant.

I dined there with my wife on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a very cozy, intimate feel to it. An excellent restaurant for Date Night. The restaurant has about 10 – 12 tables, so you may want to make a reservation on Fri or Sat Nights. Service was very fast and attentive. drinks, appetizers, and meal came relatively quickly. The food was EXCELLENT. The menu isn’t large, but the entrees that they have are traditional Greek food, prepared well. Nicely sized portions as well! My wife had never eaten traditional Greek before, so she ordered the sampler. She LOVED it. Especially the Stuffed Grape Leaves. We did not try the wines, but other tables appeared to be enjoying theirs. We will definitely add Jimmy the Greek’s to our restaurant rotation.
