Looking to satisfy your caffeine fix or need a change of scenery when studying? Enter Maeva’s — a local eclectic coffeeshop located in the historic Milton schoolhouse in Alton. What sets Maeva’s coffee from other coffee joints is that they source their coffee locally from Goshen coffee in Edwardsville. The coffee is fair trade and 100% organic. In addition to the variety of hot and cold beverages, this quaint coffeehouse also serves food that is made in-house including quiches, soups, muffins, pastries, etc. I’ve had the chance to sample a few of these offerings and the pastries are quite delicious. The quiches are usually good although my friend ordered a french toast quiche once which I wasn’t my favorite. The balance of sweet to savory was off. I like that they try to be innovative with their flavors though and that they try to cater to those who are gluten-free by making quinoa-crusted quiches. My experience with the baristas at Maeva’s have been nothing, but positive. Everyone is incredibly friendly and are more than willing to take special requests if you don’t see something that piques your interest on the menu. Maeva’s is a coffeehouse that is constantly reinventing itself not only in terms of the menu, but the actual space itself with renovations and new projects. What’s nice too is that they get the local community involved with different events, such as open mic nights, chess tournaments, latte art competitions, etc. When it comes to finding a study spot, it’s a welcomed change of scenery from the library or home. They have wifi and the password is typically on the printed receipt. When you pull up onto the gravel parking lot, you might think you’re in the wrong spot because the building looks a bit like an abandoned warehouse, but you’re at the right place! Just follow the smell of freshly ground coffee beans… up the stairs and to the right!

Great local coffee shop! I was visiting Alton on business and went back multiple times. They have milk substitutes and vegan items. Their prices are very reasonable, their staff is friendly, and the coffee is great!

A small, cozy, wonderful addition to Alton, IL. I’ve been visiting Maeva’s since its grand opening, and from that day on I have always received great service from people that I enjoy. The environment is very gypsy caravan-esqe and everyone is polite, pleasant, and enjoyable. One of my favorite homes away from home.

Visited a small coffee house in Alton, IL yesterday in between a wedding and reception. This is one of the most brilliant little places I’ve been in this area! It is set in what looks to be an old brick school building and you would not expect much when you pull into the gravel parking lot but as soon as you enter the building, it’s like traveling into another world. Eclectic. The coffee room is small and unassuming but the most inviting and warm place you can imagine. You just want to come in, have a cup, and hang out. The coffee was AMAZING! Warm, rich, creamy and finished with a beautifully designed froth in what felt like a hand-made mug. Stop in for a cup as soon as you can. I can’t wait for an excuse to be up that way and go back!!!

WOW. This place is amazing. There aren’t many tables, but they usually have bean bag chairs to hang out on. I have yet to find anything bad yet. My favorite drinks by far are the Frozen Aztec and a Triple Soy Latte. Definitely worth a visit!

This week for the bakery crawl found me in Alton at Maeva’s. I have finally found where the hippies/hipsters hang out. I heard that they have amazing cinnamon rolls, but not today. Instead we had muffins, and not just any muffins. Butterscotch and blackberry muffins and berry walnut muffins. They had a delightful crunchy top and were big enough for us to split three ways. The butterscotch provided the right amount of moistness and the black berry provided a zing. The berry walnut was delicious as well. This place is in an old grade school building. A coworker said she went to grade school in this building and she is in her 80’s. There are rumors of it being haunted, hey it is in Alton right… This is a must stop place.

Small coffee house in an old elementary school which works really well. Its decorated really nice with big chairs and small tables. The cheesecake is really good and the frozen Aztec is amazing. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. They also have soup and quiche which I haven’t tried yet but all of it looks very good.

Have been going here since they opened last year, usually several times a week! Try their dirty chai for an amazing experience, but I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve tried. Very cool atmosphere and friendly baristas will make you keep coming back! Thanks, Meredith and Joel, for creating a great addition to our community!

Stopped in for the first time today and tried the frozen Aztec hot chocolate & a strawberry scone. Delicious! The ladies with me both enjoyed 2 cups of Goshen coffee. The price for a my drink, 2 scones, and 2 coffees(with free refills!) came out to just over $ 12. We were all impressed by the prices and amount of food/drinks we received for our money! I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the baristas were super friendly. The schoolhouse looks odd from the outside, but the coffee shop is a gem — I will definitely be back. I look forward to spreading the word about this great locally owned coffee shop!

A small but mighty coffee house! The main shop is cozy with different seating options: armchair, high top tables, semi — communal mini tables. Excellent batistas who know how to make excellent espresso and will not make you feel dumb if you can’t pronounce your drink. The food is very tasty and you can get sweet as well as savory items. The scones and quiches are both highly recommended. A favorite drink is the Dirty Chai. The regular coffee is a bit lighter than some places, but it is blended and roasted especially for Maeva’s by Goshen Coffee, so you know it’s high quality. Outside of the main shop is a little free library complete with seating. The restroom is just past the library and is worth a visit even if you don’t need to go. There is also community information posted as one would expect at a local coffee shop. The original artwork is beautiful and obviously done with love. The building is a former school, and retains much of that charm. Entry to the shop is up a short flight of stairs and to the right. There are other up and coming businesses in the building as well. I wish all of them the best!

My wife told me about this place and how great it is. The staff is friendly and the artsy décor and atmosphere reminds me of the shops in Portland, Oregon. Which makes it a rare find and treasure for the Riverbend area around Alton, IL to enjoy.
