I have not been in a Slackers in a long time. I forget how much fun and interesting this place can be. I was quickly greeted when I walked in the door, I love when that happens. I was looking for old school country. The guy had never heard of Don Williams but he was quick to help me out. He chatted with me while we browsed. We found two CD’s. We continued our conversation as he finished my transaction. COOL place.

Slackers in Alton is by far the best new/used media store I have ever been to. It’s clean, super friendly, well staffed, well organized, and fairly priced. The Chain: Slackers is SUCH a step up from Game Stop. Customer service is the main thing. Slackers employees don’t talk down to their customers. The chain also has a comforting«mom and pop» feel to it that other chains don’t have. Game Stop always feels like it’s filling the pockets of «the man». The Alton Locations: I’ve been into at least three Slackers locations that I can think of, and Alton is just undeniably the best. The employees are not only helpful to the customers, but you can also tell that there is a good group dynamic that makes the store run smoothly. Those guys know what they are talking about. They always know where your item is located and are familiar enough with the inventory that they can usually tell you if they have your item right off the bat. They are never too busy to help you find something, make a suggestion, or explain how something works. It’s a great place to Christmas shop because you can go in and say«My dad has the Wii, but he only plays Excite Truck,» and these guys will come up with three other titles that are perfect for him. I’ve never had a bad experience at the Alton Slackers.
