I used to come here several years ago with my buds from school(early 2000s). Came in here the other day(15 years later…) and its like the place hasn’t changed. In fact, its like the place is so outdated but I’m not sure where to start. It can be a blessing in many ways. The prices are very reasonable. You probably won’t spend $ 7 or over if you’re getting lunch or dinner. Food quality is okayyyy, but if you’re just happy getting an affordable meal then that’s all right too. Just to warn you, the burgers and chicken are fine, but the fries are very bland. Of course, they hook you up with so many wasteful condiments packets. I’m surprised this place doesn’t use trays if I’m eating in the restaurant. They give everybody paper lunch bags, like its ‘to-go’ or something. But I’m sure whoever owns Woody’s could care less, just as long as people continue to come in. The place can easily be missed since its at a busy intersection. When you pull in, you have to go behind the building to get there. How weird is that? Plus Woody’s has weird hours(they are not open on Sunday and Monday! Fools!). But again, for those looking for a cheap lunch, here you go. Its one of many places in Alton that fits the category.

We live in north stl co and there is no shortage of fried chicken in the Lou, but Woody’s is worth the drive across the river. We had driven by this place so many times and after reading some reviews, decided to check it out. The fried chicken is crispy, flavorful and perfectly cooked. No pink anywhere, no dry white meat, we picked the bones clean. I will go as far as saying it was better than anything we’ve had in St Louis, better than Old Standard, better than Porters, better than Sweetie Pie’s, seriously, if you live in noco, drive across the river for some of Woody’s fried chicken; it’s fantastic!

I came to Woody’s for the first time today. I recently moved to this area and I know they are known for great fried chicken, however, I was in search of an excellent cheeseburger and Woody’s did not disappoint! It kind of reminded me of a Five Guys style of cheeseburger. Thin burger patties, gooey American cheese. I was disappointed that they discontinued the hot pepper cheese balls(!!!) but their beer battered onion rings were excellent. I will be back!

Everyone says great chicken, of course it’s great chicken… but I think they have a great burger. Way better then any fast food place around!

The chicken is great for the price. I remember when it was in wood river good then great now. If you need a chicken fix woody’s is where it’s at.

Some of the best fried chicken you will ever eat. My nephew makes a trip down here from Detroit Michigan just for the chicken. Good prices and a big menu of old fashioned diner food.

Heaven in fried chicken — does that sound cliché? I don’t even care. It’s yummy, hand dipped, juicy, and just all around yummy. We always forget that it’s there, but it’s quick, cheap and tasty. You can’t go wrong!

Wow I cannot believe that I haven’t reviewed this place yet. I’ve been eating here ever since I can remember, white boxes of greasy delicious fried chicken, with soggy delicious fries and packets of ketchup. The styrofoam cups with the fountain soda. Here you will get what you want. There is no pomp, no circumstance, only delicious unhealthy fried chicken. White meats, dark meats, who cares, just bring it on. If I was in town, this second I would go to Woody’s and get a box of fried chicken. Unfortunately I live about 1,100 miles away and don’t have the luxury of having a Woody’s around. If you’re in the town and looking for some delicious food, EATHERE!

I know some people think 3 stars is not so good but I just want to give an honest review that will hopefully help someone decide and not be disappointed by a skewed review… that being said I personally like the chicken, its batter coated which i thought was pretty tasty, but holds the grease more than others… the coleslaw was a great creamy variety & sweet! Also tried some fried shrimp… hmm they were good until I saw that many weren’t de-veined, they were cheap but that’s not cool to me. They also have a drive-thru. I’d probably stop in and get the chicken & some slaw but no shrimp for me! :)
