Nice after work hangout! He owner is nice and the staff is great. It gets packed on the weekends but it is always a great time!

Nice little spot to hang out, right outside the downtown area of Altus. We stopped into Val’s for a snack around happy hour on a Wednesday. There was a great wing special– 49 cents/wing, bone in or out– but otherwise no real happy hour specials. I’m actually not even sure if happy hour specials are a thing in this area, but alas there were none here, other than the wing promo. We ordered the chips and salsa, curly fries, and ten wings. The chips were a tiny bit stale and the salsa had a heavy celery salt taste, like a bloody Mary. The curly fries were just plain fries in a semi curled shape, not the spiced, tight curl fries you might have in mind. However, they were piping hot and perfectly fried so I would still highly recommend them. Just ask for a jazzier sauce to accompany them, such as the delicious chipotle bbq they offer for wings. My boyfriend enjoyed his bone out wings in mango Louisiana and mild buffalo sauce, and we both left pretty satisfied after enjoying our food and beers on the pretty outdoor patio. Food-wise, Val’s is passable. Value wise, it’s pretty great. Our 4 import beers, ten wings, chips and salsa, and fries were just around $ 26 total. I would head to Val’s again for the environment alone, as their patio is the best we’ve found in town so far, by far!

Val’s is a good bar with a divey atmosphere. Beer is always cold, they run good food specials, and the staff is very friendly. They have bands a few nights a week. Recommend visiting this place.

I went here a few times back in 1995 when I was at Altus AFB for training. For some weird reason I had really fond memories of the food here. Fast forward 18 years and my wife and I are passing through and stop by. The place is a dump. Service is inattentive at best. Food is just average bar/grill stuff. I’m not sure what I ever saw in this place. I realize dive bars are all the rage now, but I’m not a fan of places you have to be wasted to enjoy the food. I was embarrassed I had bragged this place up and taken my wife and a daughter here.

Best lunch place in Altus! Service is always excellent and the food never disappoints. Try the daily special. Monday you can get a burger and fries for under 5 $. The wings are fairly large they defiantly do not skimp. Give Val’s a try

Horrible service, cook screwed up 2 of the 4 orders, even what she made us sucked. Of the 4 people 0 were happy with their meal or service. We’re visiting from New York so we won’t be back here even if we come back to Altus. Kirko

Well, they have good hot wings and sweet tea. Everything else is mediocre-to-fair. Oh, it’s kind of cool for military people to have their going away lunch here because they give you a picture of Altus in the rearview mirror. I cannot wait to have my going away lunch here so that I can have some hot wings and sweet tea and get that awesome picture.

Service: average but confusing at first. Didn’t know if we should have waited to be seated or seat ourselves. Food: below average my wings tasted like they put them in the microwave to cook them Building: dark and dirty and a weird smell, but it does have out door seating

Fajitas seasoning was spot on. Steak was a little tough so cutting the strips before making the fajita was a must. The fixin’s were good, except for the salsa. Service kept the water full, but wasn’t much help or happy to be there otherwise. The owner of this cool nascar bar was the saving grace. Great guy, welcoming and wanted our business!

Was I impressed? Not really… Was it a horrible experience? No, not that either. I came in for dinner, but they only had the bar area open. I decided to sit at the bar since I was there on my own… I just ordered a Monte Crisco sandwich with fries… I’ve had much better. I wanted the food to be good; because I was eating it, and because other people have reviewed this place well. The bar area actually stank like stale beer, it wasn’t pleasant. I ate my average sandwich and my cold fries, and left. I’m here for a few months, so I’ll try it again, with an updated review…

As I unbutton num. 1 and 2 buttons on my American Eagle denim jeans I’m reflecting on what just happened(and what possibly might within 30 minutes.) I’d like to call myself a Fajitas fan… some may dare call me an expert. Tough to beat what just happened here! Beverages: First off, cold, wet water… just the way I like it. Even a request for a refill(not needed tonight.) Hydration tonight fresh off the Silver Bullet Express via Golden Colorado, draft of course. One of the coldest beers I’ve had on tap, that’s a win. Food: See the picture I posted… literally I was blind by the smoke coming off this piping hot baby! Grilled onions and green peppers seared to perfection, chicken cooked perfectly. Steak was a tougher cut(hence 4 stars) and both could have used a little more seasoning. The fixens were dialed in and brought this meal around third and across the plate for a big win. First bite was so succulent I feared the last. By the end I had to hold back a vom sesh to make room for the more I needed. Overall: 4 stars — championship Unique sports bar feel(in the bar section) Great Fajitas Colder beer than most can stomach An immediate exit direct my rental stays throne to test the plumbing(#BatCave ask for Mike, hell of a guy) Cheers

Food was good. I would eat here again. We had the monte Cristo, spicy fries(not at all spicy) and chicken quesadilla… service was not good… it took 35 min for our food. Restaurant needs a good deep clean, everything inside is crappy that’s why we ate outside:-)

I happen to love this place, I’ve been coming here since before I could drink at their bar. ;) Scot(Val’s son) can chat you up like he’s known you all your life, making you feel at home. Val herself is incredibly sweet & the regulars make it fun. I’m not sure if Kevin is still there but the man could make one helluva steak. I’ll admit the service can be a little spotty and there are hits & misses from the kitchen, but to me the atmosphere makes up for the occasional miss. The burgers are darn good($ 3.49 on Mondays!) and there are several different types of fries. I haven’t been in a while, I think it’s about time ;))

So happy I’m not the only one who thought the service sucked. I’ve been 3 times and the girls are slow and on cell phones behind the bar. I get Altus is a small town and more relaxed but if you can’t do your job then put it away. The wings are not great, Applebee’s hot is wayyyyy better. The shrimp I had there was ok but super greasy

Prompt service. We were seated on the patio — recommend patio seating. Friendly staff. Highly recommend«The Big One» with the hand battered onion rings instead of the fries… Easily enough food for two. Will definitely revisit Val’s next time we’re back in town.

Service is absolutely horrid! We came in and no one was there to seat us. Then they seated us and walked away without menus. We had to sit and wait 20 mins until we found a waitress to get us one and she tossed it and left. The place is VERY run down. It’s supposed to look like that, but not to the extent it is now. Theres coke posters and memorabilia everywhere but they only serve RC. EVERYTHING squeaks! Every move anyone makes. I can barely hear my husband talking! The tables are soooo wobbly. I’m scared to put my arms or my food on it for fear it might snap it. Items are literally falling off the walls. The waitress dropped cups of drink TWICE near us. We ordered small cold sandwich and hamburger meals, with barely any people here and it took over 30 mins for us to get our food. then never checked on again. 20 mins after finishing, we were able to flag someone down for the check. We Hopefully they are just having a bad day…

This place is absolutely great! In fact I’m on my way right now for their Monday burger special. I’ve seen a few reviews that weren’t so good because the décor inside is «outdated» or not very well done but I say WHOCARES! The food is great, the gals that work there are just about as friendly as can be and the service is some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a locally owned little place where they make you feel welcome and really take care of you. Yeah, they have the front of a Coca-Cola vending machine plugged in with a picture if Dale Earnhardt as part if the décor, but who cares? If your idea of a nice place to eat is Shenanigans because you absolutely love the decorations then leave this little gem of Altus alone and drive to the big city for a meal! Oh and the sauces for their Wednesday wings are really good too.

Going down hill. We went in Friday for a drink and a bite to eat. No one was at the door. no one in the restaurant. poked my head around the corner and the bar area had one person that was busy. Another group of people came in stood around with us for a few minutes and left, ignored as well. I think one man went into the bar and said something to the lady behind the counter but no one ever came out to seat us. So we left. It is run down and dumpy and the service is about par for Altus. This place is ok for the guys to meet for a few beers but i would never go back for a «date night».

Vals is an ok place. It is old and kinda out dated restaurant that reminds me of a old Route 66 joint. The food is average, some menu items are good and some are so-so. I would not suggest their BBQ, if you want BBQ go down the street. Their sandwiches and burgers are good and I had a good steak the last time I ordered one. And they do have a descent selection of beers which is a plus and worth going for!
