Another gem belonging to the Lorain County Metroparks! Situated along the banks of the Beaver Creek, the reservation features 65 acres of woodlands and floodplains and a 1.4 mile long paved path. If you are looking for a place to have a picnic, take a walk, do some fishing, get some exercise, hold a family get-together or do some fishing, BeaverCreek is for you! The Amherst Beaver Creek Reservation has the distinction of being the first joint effort between a city and a metro park in the state of Ohio. The City of Amherst maintains the park and the visitor’s center while Lorain County Metro Parks manages the park’s Natural Resource Management Program(source, Metroparks Website) Beavercreek is great for the following reasons: 1.) A paved 1.4 mile long trail is great for a stroll with a loved one, a daily run, taking fido for a walk or teaching your little one how to ride a bike 2.) Playground equipment, soccer fields and plenty of space for the kids to run around. A pretty nice Safety Town is also available for you to teach your children how to cross the street and observe other pedestrian traffic laws. 3.) The charming day-use area/visitor’s center is available for rental at a minimal cost. It has a refrigerator, microwave, sink, trash cans and clean bathrooms. The visitor’s center features a rustic, open-beamed ceiling and a gas fireplace. Natural and recreational programming is also available at pre-scheduled times. 4.) Picnic shelters available 5.) Great opportunities for bird watching, fishing and landscape/nature photography. Aquatic life is plentiful and includes fish, frogs, turtles, crayfish and insect nymphs. You will even see the occasional deer while strolling through the park.
