This is such a cute, unique movie theater that I just cannot get enough of. They typically show more independent movies, or documentaries that you might not be able to see anywhere else. Oh also there’s sometimes a classic flim thrown into the mix.
Support this business, they are a really awesome theater… oh did I mentioned that they sell beer and wine? No? They do and its awesome!

Amherst Cinema has a great selection of films, many of which you can’t find anywhere else in the valley. The seats are good enough and the theater is small but comfy. I haven’t tried their concession stand, but they have quite a few options. The ticket prices are fair, and if you’re a student with an ID, there is a discount.

This independent cinema is tucked away behind Amherst Coffee. It’s cozy, clean and perfect for a cinephile. The staff are always friendly and the snack bar is heavenly. A wonderful asset to students in the Pioneer Valley.

Quaint, cute little theater that shows mostly offbeat indie and classic/​cult films. It’s a small place and there are only a few showings at once but this creates a cozy, comfortable atmosphere that you don’t get at a big chain cinema. Good popcorn, great picture quality and a nice sloping theater so people can’t sit right down in front of you and block your view. The only complaint I have is that the seats are somewhat uncomfortable, being just like plain slightly cushioned chairs with no reclining at all, which creates a problem for people with back problems. Otherwise, a nice place and one I would strongly recommend! They show some really cool movies here and ones that aren’t currently showing in other theaters, so keep a look at the schedule.

My Fav little indie cinema, the atmosphere is great. Love it, i love the fact you can see Animes, or a Kubrick, Or A classic, or a film in a diffrent language. Love this PLACE, RECOMEND IT WHOLE HEARTDLY! If your into the whole Indie Flick thing, or I saw Laputa, The Shining, Totoro, Mononoke, Howls and Spirited Away there!

Im so happy that this exists especially since Northampton cinema closed. Live that I can keep up with offbeat and indie movies I love. I can keep up with Sundance and other film festivals and know that I will probably get to see those movies!
They keep a classy yet not snooty vibe. They serve beer and wine and other special snacks which keep the experience form being your typical movie theater experience.

Yes, I like it.
I do not see a lot of movies here, but I don’t see a lot of movies period.
I love that the whole plaza is evolving and that you can get a Go Berry before or after a movie.
I love the cheese to sprinkle on the popcorn.
Hipster attitude with some of the staff, but it’s an arthouse theater, right?
I love the film series which focus on different directors, but I was really surprised how empty some of the Woody Allen movies were. But I also don’t get to a lot of movies so I’m not sure if it’s a lack of advertising and outreach or what. A whole younger generation is missing these films. It is true that most of the audience is 45 and up…
We are long-​time supporters of Amherst Cinema. I am so glad it’s here.

A good change from the commercialized scene. The theaters maybe small except for 1 but the smaller style makes for a better experience. You’ll ditch the megaplex feeling and appreciate the more intimate vibe and if that doesn’t happen order some beer or wine.

Thank Goodness for Amherst Cinema. Classy, clean and sophisticated. Great film selection, always. Fresh popcorn with lots of goodies to sprinkle on top, too! One word: Yay!

I love this theater, and just saw «The Artist» with fresh popped corn and lots of real butter (a guilty pleasure). My only complaint has to do with the seating. There just is not a whole lot of leg room, and at 5’7″ with very long legs, I spent a lot of time shifting.
I just wish that whomever designed the screening rooms took that into consideration. I am not the only person who has complained of it.
But it is what it is. So I heartily recommend that if you have long legs, or are a large person, to sit in the first row (there is ample room there, but your neck will probably ache in exchange) or the row of seats before the break of another set of seats.
Customer service was great! Love to see a smiling face when I plop down my hard earned cash!

Very cute and clean movie theater in Amherst Center. It usually shows independent/​artsy movies. If you’re a movie snob, this is your place.

Amherst Cinema is a fairly small and cozy independent movie theater, and I love it. I went here several times last January to see movies that weren’t playing anywhere else in the area. The seats are extremely comfortable and the desserts that they sell are tasty. The only frustrating part of coming here is finding parking, so after the hassle that I encountered with the first time, I just took the bus every time after that so I wouldn’t have to deal with it. Problem solved!

I really enjoy this cinema and the fact that it is non-​profit and I totally support that!
I do feel sorry for their employees because they probably don’t get paid well, because well you’ve guessed it. Pleasant Street Theater is way up their in customer service but there shouldn’t be such things as customer service at a non-​profit. Paradoxical.
The better selections usually end up at this bigger, newer theater. I saw Exit Through the gift Shop twice here and the first time the end of the film ended up cutting up all weird so I didn’t get the ending.
I like that I can have coffee and a vegan cookie with a nice film. And I appreciate their events they hold including a showcasing of a certain film maker or student work.

I have so much love for this place. It’s brighter and larger than its sister in Northampton, but still has cream of the crop movies at decent prices that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. Also, they have the best concessions anywhere! Flavored salts for my popcorn, vegan brownies AND italian sodas? Yes please!
They also have baby-​friendly shows. I’m not a parent, nor do I wish to become one anytime soon, but I’ve sat in enough theatres with screaming children to appreciate this move on their part (and also know in advance which screenings to avoid!).
One minor complaint? Parking is a huge pain. But I’ve parked in the adjacent bank lot after hours with no trouble.
Don’t waste your time elsewhere, except maybe Pleasant Street. This is as good as it gets.

This is definitely my favorite cinema in town! It’s very sleek & modern, but not sterile. The film selection is always great & especially good around Oscar time since they, along with their companion theater (Pleasant Street), have most of the nominees for best film. And the prices are really reasonable, about $ 7 for a student and $ 8 w/​out a student ID (for matinée shows). They also have a great snack bar!
The theaters themselves are small so it’s best to get there early to buy your tickets. I’ve been there about 25 minutes in advance and had them call out ‘SOLD OUT’ as soon as I got through the door. So if you really want to catch a certain flick, I recommend getting there in advance and them roaming around the town after you have your tickets in hand. But it’s worth the wait, plus you can always grab a bite to eat at one of Amherst’s yummy restaurants.
